Think it has something to do with how the world of Harry Potter was much more light-hearted back then... well, that, and our ages when playing these games.
Reminds me, I saw the half-blooded prince on tv a few weeks ago and damn it was awkward and dark, I guess the series had to change with the audience.
"super wizard crackers" is a good description of Harry Potter & co. edit: oh he made that joke. welp
The issue seems way exaggerated when playing emulated as well
It's exaggerated because he's playing it in a higher resolution than the default PSX resolution, similar to how a small image will look worse when you enlarge it. Although I still think PSX games look better in higher resolution, it's a shame emulators can't fix that floating point problem
The early Potter games were the shit. It was like, dark souls for kids. Explore, find secrets and kill bosses.
Also, in terms of getting new spells it could technically be regarded as slightly Metroidivania-like, wherein the spells allow you to get to areas you couldn't get to before. Wasn't quite as open-ended though. Also also, was the third Harry Potter game as good as the earlier ones?
I actually have the first 3 movie games on pc, physical copy and everything. I should play them again.
As bad as the early Potter games were, they had some real nice atmosphere and Hogwarts was full of secrets and shit
I can honestly say the first three games were better than the fourth. There was something about just going around exploring that was really cool. The fourth one was much more linear iirc. [editline]28th April 2014[/editline]
I only played the pc versions of chamber of secrets and azkaban but the forth one a bit (god that one is so awful what were they thinking) 2 has to be the best one in the series imo. The whole card collecting thing was so nice. Also this song
Jeremy Soule is great when it comes to video game music. He catches the feel really well.

It even lets you play as the main trio (Harry, Ron and Hermione), each with their own unique spells. I'd recommend giving it a go if you liked Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets.
The issue seems way exaggerated when playing emulated as well
You have to remember the game was probably rendered and recorded in resolution much higher than the original. So when a calculation is not exact and the polys change shape or position, it is jumping across more pixels than usual. Not to mention you can see pretty much every pixel, instead of it all blurred together on an old tube tv.
I had Chamber of Secrets for the GBC and it was badass [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] oh shit I found my cartridge fuck yeah [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] man for a GBC game the graphics are top-notch
Prisoner of Azkaban, ah yes. I remember buying it and being insanely disappointed it was almost nothing like the originals. Oh well. Since it was made on the unreal engine I went and saw some of the code, it was really simple how they did it and I really want to try to replicate it on unreal engine 4 or something. That'd be a fun platformer, sort of the same idea with more open-world stuff to do. I played this game to it's very core and it's the first game I completed 100%. The music was definitely my favorite part of the game though, I mean nyeeh P.s, chamber of secret owners - there's a secret challenge in the Gryffindor common room. You need cheats to enter it, but it's a fully fledged working level. You can also access the debug room (Main lobby) and very unfinished hedge-maze level (Hogwarts outdoors), not mentioned in that article. Also trudging through files there's once again another challenge room labeled just Lev0_ch_Syl.unr , no idea where or how to access it however.

I had this for pc, I loved every moment of it
The PS2 version of Prizoner of Azkaban was my favorite. I could run around freely all over Hogwarts and toss Patronums at people.

Holy fuck, I was going to comment on how this sounds like something out of Oblivion. It turns out Jeremy Soule was the composer for both games. I had no idea.

I got this for Christmas and I remember my P3 Dell not being able to handle it, but I played halfway through it anyway at like 15 fps. Shit was hard yo...
hagrid is fucking terrifying jesus
I swear that the ps2 versions of both sorcerers stone and chamber of secrets are different to the pc
They could well be, I remember a few games being different on different consoles
I remember playing this game ages ago on the PS1 when I was a kid. I don't remember it being so bad :v:
I played Chamber of Secrets on the PS2 and on the PC; they definitely downgrade it a lot for the PC.
I actually played and finished the ps1 version, and it's a lot better than the video makes it out to be. The platforming and camera are actually really good, and once you get the hang of the flying shit that becomes really easy too. Although the game design was VERY gamey, as in things were designed around being a game first and then the theme and story were incorporated into things. As a child the game was heaps of fun, just remember this video is meant to be funny and it does cherry pick the worst parts of the game, there is actually a lot to do in the game, and I implore anyone with the time to try the ps1 version as it is a largely different piece compared to the PC version.
I played Chamber of Secrets on the PS2 and on the PC; they definitely downgrade it a lot for the PC.
isn't there this whole massive intro sequence on ps2 fighting the whomping willow and sneaking around that dark shop
I played Chamber of Secrets on the PS2 and on the PC; they definitely downgrade it a lot for the PC.
PC version was superior to the PS2 version, but I remember the gamecube version of Sorcerer's Stone being vastly superior to all other versions
