It might be a tough aircraft but its not going to withstand a close detonation from a missile.
not really,a good place SAM can or mobile AA can destroy it
The plane is designed to withstand things like SAMs and AA fire, and it can fly with only one wing and half a turbine. It's a tough SOB to shoot down, Coolest damn jet in the world.
I think If it doesn't overheat as fast as the SAW and if we can find reliable Drum Mags for it, it would be fairly decent at replacing the SAW. The SAW is fucking unreliable. Lot of the marines' SAWs are hand me downs from the army dating back to the 80s or Gulf War. They are just ending their lifespan, regardless of how well you clean them.
Yeah SAWs can be finicky, but the IAR literally cannot compare in volume of fire. Some Marines are going to have a really shitty day in an ambush zone, and the complaints are going to be coming in fast. Hell, just take a look at militaryphotos.net forums or leatherneck, literally every infantry Marine there is losing their shit over this. It's amusing to read, but when you consider the real life implications of what they are complaining about, it's daunting. It does overheat too and the problem is unlike the SAW, you can't change barrels. Not easily anyway. Honestly though, the only thing we need to look at is the concept. America isn't the first country to try out the automatic rifle/light support weapon concept, nor is it the first time in America's history to use a LSW (BAR comes to mind, modified m14s in vietnam etc). In every instance it's proven either a bad or just not all that good idea. The Brits at least had the mind to keep the Minimi adjunct to the LSW rather than replacing it.

I didn't know Ireland used the AUG. Does Austria still use it?
I didn't know Ireland used the AUG. Does Austria still use it?
Yep they use a locally licensed "Austyer", fine bit of weaponry. We use a modified Austrian version with an ALO, which enables fully automatic fire by a switch rather then a trigger pressure based system.
Austeyr is Australian you Dinghus. [editline]18th November 2011[/editline]
Missread thought he said Australian, not Austrian sorry mate. The Austrians use a pressure based trigger system so you can fire fully automatic judging on how hard you press your finger on the trigger. The F88 and the Irish version have a switch. It's very handy.
Since when does Finland use regular AKs? I thought all Finnish soldiers got Valmets.
Its not a regular AK, its probably a MPi-KMS-72 which is a german copy that the fins bought shitloads of to supply their reserves, or a Type 56, again, bought for reserves.
