The standard issue rifle throughout the Russian military is the AK-74M so I don't know where you're getting your information from. FSB operators like to put all kinds of Magpul shit all over their AKs but they're still AKs. Plus I seriously doubt Russia would go from a reliable AK variant that they've modified to be as modular as any western competitor, and is just as accurate as the M4, to something with similar capabilities but awful reliability.

Does the US Army use the M16 in combat at all any more? I know the Marine Corps uses the M16A4 but is the Army strictly M4s now for their Rifleman/Grenadiers/Squad Leaders etc? Just wanted to clarify, my friend and I were having a discussion about this and I told him the US Army doesn't use the M16 any more in combat situations but he planted that seed of doubt in my mind.

IMO the M4 is a better gun, more suited to more situations, lighter ETC.
The HK416 is better than all of those, though.
Since when does Finland use regular AKs? I thought all Finnish soldiers got Valmets.
Valmet hasn't existed since 1999, The newer models were manifactured by Sako. Ever since the financial problems began things have gone shit(whoever said finland is in eu to make money is an idiot). Sako was sold to beretta, and bunch of shitty chinese AKs were bought to fill the gap. Supposely they've been deactivated put into training use, But obviously some has been put into actual use. Generally speaking the chinese AKs are not good, Actually they're total garbage if compared to sakos. but nevertheless they're still guns and if given to tank crews they won't see much use anyway.
Reality TV star Kristin Cavallari honoured her promise to attend a Marine Corps Ball on Thursday night (17 November 11), accompanying a Marine to the Californian gala.
The Hills star arrived at the bash at Pechanga Casino and Resort in Temecula with Lance Corporal Jonathan Burkett, who invited the reality TV star via Twitter.com in August (11).
He wrote, "Wanted to know if you want to go the the Marine Corps Ball with me in San Diego?"
Thrilled Cavallari accepted Burkett's invite just hours after he posted the message, and the star, who is dating American footballer Jay Cutler, turned up to the event in a floorlength silver gown and posed for photographs with the military man.
She told reporters, "I just thought, why not? It’s a nice way to say thank you for everything that he’s done for our country. Seeing the faces of the people fighting for our country, it just puts everything in perspective."
After the event Cavallari wrote on Twitter.com, "Had a great time at the marine ball."

It might be a tough aircraft but its not going to withstand a close detonation from a missile.
This is incorrect, as multiple encounters since it has entered service has proven. For one detailed account see the following:
http://www.cradleofaviation.org/history/aircraft/a-10.html
In that particular incident the A-10 was hit by 4 rounds of 57mm AA fire, instead of a missile, but the idea is still the same. In the end they found 378 holes in the A-10 and it was still flying and functional enough to be flown back to base. I am not sure any other modern jet aircraft could say that.

I'm talking about a modern AA missle, not cannon or shitty soviet era SAMs. Without a doubt it's the toughest aircraft in service but again modern AA missiles would scrap it with a close detonation. There's a reason ground attack aircraft aren't used without total air superiority, sure it might take a few more hit than your average plane but it's really not worth the risk.

Yeah the sight in the rear is more or less purely a magnifier.
More than likely, it's the commandos/ 2CDO. It's very common for pictures of 2CDO to be mis-attributed to SASR.
I hate it when people see a weapon with more than one type of attachment or modified part and they start screaming "OMG TACTIC00l 0pPErAT0R!!!1!"

Okay so here's some pictures taken by either me or a friend during exercises throughout my service. They're in approximately chronological order:

This one was taken during a 30km skiing march, some of the best times I ever had in the army :)

I know it's not that interesting with the blurred faces and all but I still think it's a cool picture

We had a lot of combined arms action, occasionally even simulated air support with the Finnish F-18s :)

Explosives training was pretty interesting too. Here's what a teller mine (Basically 10kg of TNT) leaves in its wake. The ground there is soft sand so the crater would actually be a lot bigger with more solid ground.

Difference between stepping on a blast mine heel first and toes first. Pretty sure you'd just lose the whole leg in the former case. For anyone interested the blast mine packs about 60 grams of tightly packed TNT.

The Finnish version of MREs, some troops ate the actual real MRE stuff but this is all we were ever issued.

Got a glimpse of the new Patria AMVs too, they're pretty damn cool at least on the inside

We got to use decommissioned tanks as target practice :v:

This one was taken during an exercise in Lapland just before we got out, which means it was so far up north that during the summer the sun never sets. The guy here is actually on night guard, around 2am :v:
As for more official photographs I couldn't find any that were at least related to me, but there's a shitload over here. They haven't translated the site into English but it's pretty straightforward to use anyway
Its not a regular AK, its probably a MPi-KMS-72 which is a german copy that the fins bought shitloads of to supply their reserves, or a Type 56, again, bought for reserves.
I'm pretty sure this would be the case here. Also I've heard we got them as part of the Leopard 2 deal to be issued to tank crews and such.
