Motorists who drive like idiots, kill more people, cause more accidents and think they own the road are dicks. That is all.

One time I was riding brakeless downhill on a narrow boulevard with cars parked on the right and people getting out. To avoid getting doored, I stayed to left (USA). Going 30mph in a 25mph zone, when some guy in a minivan that looks like it cost less than my bike, started honking and yelling that he would beat my "punk ass" because I am "another little shit that thinks he owns the road" and some other noise I didn't really hear. I was supposed to make a left turn at the end of that street, but I missed it because there was a mini van 3 feet behind me and on-coming traffic going through the intersection.
Have been cycling since i was 4 or something, bought a moped the moment i turned 16, when it's nice weather i still take the bike.
Also SUV's suck massively, always get cut of by them.

Typical. That happens a lot here in Finland too :v:
Well, i'm fine with bicyclists that ride on the road, as long as they're on the side of the road, not in the middle of it.

He did ask for them to "quit banning me".
I just only discovered my love for cycling this summer.
Cycled for hours on end in the summer :buddy:

Gt Tempest 2.0
I only use it for dirt jumping and riding short distances, It does the job for me, And it's highly reliable.
You ride a slow bike
Ah, I just realised what I said sounds a bit weird..
It's a 40 minute walk, but most of the route is pedestrian only. Meaning, I could do the road and cycle paths quickly, but going through town puts me on foot for most of the ride.
[editline]21st October 2010[/editline]
I suppose I could go another route, get there a lot quicker, but it's more traffic heavy and I'm new to the road.

currently I ride BMX but I may buy a fixie sometime in the future. Also on the subject of cycling on the road, I'm not sure what the laws are in America but in the UK cyclists have as much right to be on the road as cars, and it pisses me off that car users seem to have such high opinions of themselves, I've had cars beep at me just by riding next to them and people telling me to get off the road.

Just a basic dual suspension mountain bike I've modified to play bike polo with. I take it on trails every once and a while but where I live its too hilly to use a road bike efficiently.
I used to ride a Gt avalanche 1.0 but it was stolen, now I have a Trek 6000.

My father bought himself a 3000$ bicycle. He usually bikes about 150-180km every third day or so.
I did a 20 mile bike ride for Haiti in May, good fun. We had some people show up on those ridiculous fold up bikes with tassles, balloons and ribbons. We as a group of 2 dozen lost her and her friends after 5 minutes cycling. We got a call an hour later where her friend told us she'd cycled right into a parked car and broken her leg somehow. It was an awesome experience on the whole.
I have no clue what kind of bicycle I have. All I know is it's a Mongoose, and it's probably like ten years old. I just use it to ride around for fun.
I don't cycle in the sport sense, but for transportation. I used to ride a bmx bike, but now a specialized expedition elite. Rides smooth, easy maintenance, and I suspect it'll last for a good time.

Nice, I'm riding a Cannondale from the 90s (still). Still, I can pass idiots on their 5k bikes with my lowly bike I found on Craigslist, so whatever.

It's actually more efficient to use a road bike, the suspension sucks up a lot of your pedaling power. Plus road bikes are more aerodynamic and lighter.

I agree, but sometimes we have to ride in the middle of the road due to objects in the road, or simply so cars don't run us off the road. I only ride on secondary streets though so I don't disturb the main traffic.

uhhh.... what?
Could you cyclists answer a question for me. Why do you insist on riding your bike in the middle of traffic? You're not a car.
I could be if I try really hard
Could you cyclists answer a question for me. Why do you insist on riding your bike in the middle of traffic? You're not a car.
You don't, unless you're at a Junction and need to change lanes, otherwise you stick to the left.

What I did with my bike (As I ride in mixed terrain, both road and offroad) I put tarmac tires on and stiffened the suspension a little. Really made a big difference. But would probably be better to have a road bike if you're going by road only, like you said. :buddy:

This is similar to my hybrid schwinn. i have been riding it for a year now and the 2 of the gears are already worn. I was really expecting it to be better made considering i heard good things from schwinn. Btw, ive been riding since i was 6 or 7 years old. I usually just ride on the dirt country roads here or i go to a paved mountain trail. Is a road bike really that much easier/smoother to ride? I see old guys flying past me on the mountain trails with there road bikes and my hybrid just cant keep up. Sure it can go offroad but that hardly ever happens nor do i really want to...
Could you cyclists answer a question for me. Why do you insist on riding your bike in the middle of traffic? You're not a car.
I stick to the right side of the right lane. We ride on the road because sidewalks suck (bumps, cracks, pedestrians, etc.). I agree some cyclists screw some drivers up (they frustrate me when I'm driving too) but you just need to be aware and so does the cyclist. I almost never ride on main roads since I don't want to die and I almost always use a crosswalk when crossing any major intersection. I try to ride when there isn't any traffic and I usually stick to roads that aren't busy (residential streets, side streets, etc.) unless there is a bike lane (which is getting to be more common nowadays).
From a driver's perspective, I hate riders because they get in the way but they really aren't causing enough inconvenience for me to be mad about. From a rider's perspective, I hate idiot drivers who aren't paying attention to the road. I almost got nailed by some lady in her SUV because she wasn't paying attention to the road because she was on the phone. Of course it was still my fault for being on the road though...
Could you cyclists answer a question for me. Why do you insist on riding your bike in the middle of traffic? You're not a car.
i treat all car drivers as retarded. make the decisions for them. if i stick myself in the middle of the lane then they cant overtake, end of. if i leave enough room so that they think that they can squeeze past, then they usually try to without assessing what's coming up.
im talking about small uk roads here, and only when theres parked cars and shit everywhere. usually i stay about 2/3 feet from the curb.
also, my bikes a GT avalanche 1.0 with a hope pro 2/mavic xm317 on the front and i just yesterday ordered a pro 2/mavic xm717 for the rear. looking to get a new xc bike though.

cyclists have as much right to be on the road as cars. deal with it.
Went for a great ride today. My friend tagged along with his fixie but couldn't keep up on the hills. He ended up giving up and I rode for another hour or so. I still don't see why anyone would buy a bike like that. Could someone please enlighten me on why someone would remove the gears and brakes from a perfectly good bike?
