What the hell is life? What is this thing? Why are we here?

We are here because we are here. I need no reason other than that.
Do you remember this?

That always reminds me of

You ask me for a hamburger. My attempt to reciprocate is cut brutally short as my body experiences a sudden lack of electrons. Across a variety of hidden dimensions you are dismayed. John Lennon hands me an apple, but it slips through my fingers. I am reborn as an ocelot. You disapprove. A crack echoes through the universe in defiance of conventional physics as cosmological background noise shifts from randomness to a perfect A Flat. Children everywhere stop what they are doing and hum along in perfect pitch with the background radiation. Birds fall from the sky as the sun engulfs the earth. You hesitate momentarily before allowing yourself to assume the locus of all knowledge. Entropy crumbles as you peruse the information contained within the universe. A small library in Phoenix ceases to exist. You stumble under the weight of everythingness, Your mouth opens up to cry out, and collapses around your body before blinking you out of the spatial plane. You exist only within the fourth dimension. The fountainhead of all knowledge rolls along the ground and collides with a small dog. My head tastes sideways as spacetime is reestablished, you blink back into the corporeal world disoriented, only for me to hand you a hamburger as my body collapses under the strain of reconstitution. The universe has reasserted itself. A particular small dog is fed steak for the rest of its natural life. You die in a freak accident moments later, and you soul works at the returns desk for the Phoenix library. You disapprove. Your disapproval sends ripples through the inter-dimensional void between life and death. A small child begins to cry as he walks toward the stairway where his father stands.
at the end, he should have asked 'so when i have sex...' then god should have said 'it brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'go fuck yourself'.

Oh god I remember reading this. Shit like this makes me do some deep thinking and weirds me out.

I was expecting a Douglas Adams thread and was disappoint
Also smoke weed etc
Also to OP, everyone thinks like this, and pretty much like everyone has said; you've got to just deal with it and make the most of your life, enjoy the happy moments, the comfort of your family, eating your favorite food and watching your favorite movies, hanging out with your friends, and so on.
Before I start getting all sentimental here I'm just trying to say don't spend your life thinking about these things, just make the most of it.
I feel so strange when i think about it. Sometimes i feel like I'm the only person who can feel and see. The others are like NPCs. They have no feelings. I feel like I'm so different. Like the one and only.
You might be interested in the concept of solipsism - the idea that the only thing certain to exist is one's own mind.

I suppose you're confused about your consciousness and how it can be spawned from a purely material universe. We are just clever bits of chemistry at the end of the day. Consciousness is a product of all this complexity we've built up over the millions of years. If it's a topic that interests you, why not read up about it a bit more?
the answer is who cares.
enjoy life as it is. No need to ask questions about it.
Surely it's in our nature to be curious and ask questions about everything?
Indeed
Just don't care
If you say that there's no way to do so, you're caring too much.

Another attempt by the aliens experimenting on me to make me to believe everything is real. :colbert:

Under the realistic assumption that I am not a unique snowflake in a field of corn, I would disagree. Every couple of days I am essentially jarred into this thought because (this is the only real way to explain it in words) I accidentally remember I'm conscious. Maybe something like an LSD flashback. It's a disorientating feeling.
Think of it as a video game, when you die you loose focus, and what you see is the equalivent of the desktop your sitting at in your messy little room, your mom saying "Why the fuck are you up playing this late?", when this life is over, its another one. I once read a book wich title could be freely translated from Danish to "The Blue Elephant", wich is about some boy who wakes up in a space ferry owned by an intergalactic celebrity, finding some wizard in some dense forest, then hearing about a artifact called the blue elephant.. wich later ends with waking up in copenhagen 20 years into iceage, and then again, finding out your a 30 year old woman who got knocked out on a boat. The story's meaning is that life is just a shell around another shell around another shell.
TL;DR: Life is a video game, sort of, and the gameplay is to fuck as much as you can and otherwise enjoy its features. When you die, your sitting infront of your desktop, when this ends, its another video game about playing video games about playing video games.
A while ago, I kept feeling like I was seeing the world through someone else's eyes. Then I would remember I actually was myself, and I was shocked. Every single time it happened.
Well, if we weren't here we wouldn't be asking that question, and that's the answer actually :v:
Dont question life, enjoy it!
Also, there's no reason that we live, we were just created randomly.

I do this almost on a weekly basis. It's an unsettling feeling.
We'r here because we took the blue pill.
I think that's actually possible that we picked to go into a "Matrix" because we didn't want to live with a machine war.
Like everyone else said.
Just don't care.
Be a slave to the leaders and don't question anything. Be soulless and unmoving- just like they want you to.
All it takes is a few chemical reactions to have us in reality.
But we're here because we are here. Some may want to find out why, and that's just fine. But we'll probably never know, so don't fret.
I suggest you to learn more about science.

Fucking this comes to my mind every single time I wonder about it.

I get it when I look into a mirror.
I get it when I look into a mirror.
I get it when dad touches me...
Back on topic. It kinda mkes me sad that, nowadays, kids tend to ask these questions so fucking much. Back in my time, we asked ourselves these questions and actually dealt with it. Now everyone just makes threads about it.
Everyone feels like this once in a while ... at least i think so, but you shouldn't have made this thread to be honest. Now it turned into a troll-hole.

The laws of physics are why we live.
