how is the barrel, I heard yugo kits have absolutely horrendous barrels
Look who it is.
I don't know much about firearms, only thing I ever fired was a .22 rifle, and I think I fired a 20 gauge shotgun once. but one of these days I would like to own a Dragunov SVD (the old kind with the wooden parts) and a walther p99.
If you live in the states don't bother with an SVD. Only a small number were imported by Russia and China before import bans were put in place so they go for an obscene amount of money. Well in the thousands. Frankly you can get a variety of much better 7.62 NATO guns for less than that. The closest thing to an SVD you can have are Romanian PSL imports. They look like an SVD and fire the same round from the same magazine and take the same scope but they are based directly off the AK-47 whereas the original SVD isn't. PSLs run around a thousand bucks or so, quite a bargain. And the ammo they fire is dirt cheap too.
As for Walthers they are nice but a bit on the expensive side. You won't have much trouble finding them. You can also get a .22LR version called a P22 and I highly recommend anyone who owns any amount of guns to own at least one .22LR handgun or rifle to start with. It'll help you learn the basics of gun ownership without breaking your wrist or your wallet.
in the next couple days I'm picking up my Cz-82 =D, I am so fucking excited about that, from everything i've heard though it kicks like a bitch for a 9x18 Mak.
Unless you get bitten by the slide you should be fine.
One day, i'd love to own an FN gun, they're all expensive as hell though.
Since i'll be going into the Finnish Defence Forces for compulsory 6 month service sometime around 2011, i'll have the opportunity to try out guns, assuming my eyesight isn't terrible enough for them to bar me from such. So at the least i'll be handling a 7.62x39mm gun, the RK-62. I'd love to own the civilian variant, the M62S, but considering those go for $3,000 in the US, i'd hate to imagine how much they cost over here, if they're even legal.
I like this little number.

Yea, they're pretty expensive. So far the cheapest i've seen the is FN PS-90. It's like the P-90, except it was modified for civilian use. Sells for around 2 grand where I live; not sure about the rest of the world though. If you are thinking about getting a pistol, such as the Five-SeveN, then it would probably cost around 1 grand. I'm not sure though, you should ask Bean-O about this...

I'd like to see it get the defence contract before that.

Dr Mortician has a Five-seveN. Same guy who has a Saiga 12 gauge, a .454 Casull Ruger revolver, a Browning Buck Mark and a .460 Roland, etc.
In other words he has me completely outgunned.

7.62 NATO is the path to enlightenment. Forgo what your military industry complex has taught you. And you will be set free.
Heh, here in Colorado they are pretty cheap; but I'm not sure about the cost of .357 HP rounds specifically. And yes, it is good for protection, but use of hollow, soft, and incendiary rounds was banned for military use during the Geneva Convention.
Get a real education.
The Hague convention is what banned those ammunition types for military use.
One day, i'd love to own an FN gun, they're all expensive as hell though.
Actually they're pretty cheap, except for the five seven and P90.
Those are just for fun anyway, they suck for self defense, just a heads up.
And for everyone that thinks the military SS190 is better than the civilian ammunitions... You're a jackass, it doesn't penetrate any deeper or yaw any better.* It's IDENTICAL to the SS195LF aside from having a steel penetrator which makes it moderately better at piercing armor vests. The SS195LF will get through any vest that the average police officer will have, so for civilian purposes it's just as good. And yes, I realize how politically incorrect that sounds, but I'm just telling you how it is. (While police are normally issued vests with plate carriers these days, almost no cop is willing to use their plate, so that level rating is pointless.)
*The FBI demands a minimum of 12" of penetration in ballistic gel. NO FACTORY LOADED 5.7x28mm meets this requirement.
Look into an FNP9, it's basically just a cheaper sig.

FNPs are cool. I want one in .45ACP.
They were around a grand, now they're around $600.
I guess it depends were you look. Either way they're still way cheaper than an SVD.

Here's one for $580. Should be just over $600 after shipping and taxes.

Getting a clone maybe.
FUCK! i want one, they are one of the best Rifle i have ever shot and i am lucky to have shot one because im in the Australian Cadets, we go shooting 2 times a year but we only get 23 bullets to shoot.
Pump shotguns are my favorite type of gun. Gotta love that pump, makes it addicting.
I'm thinking about getting a Kimber 1911, but I've heard alot about Springfield armouries, which one is better.
Getting a clone maybe.
No, seriously, they're on sale. Plus, Impact Guns likes to sell things for a few hundred more than they're worth.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=151798109
I just bought one of those actually using the money I've been saving up for one for ages. The E4 version is listed for $1,300 by the same guys.
I'm thinking about getting a Kimber 1911, but I've heard alot about Springfield armouries, which one is better.
Half the people you talk to will say Kimber suck and Springfields are great, the other half will say just the opposite. I've only used a GI Remington Rand so I have no opinion.

Heh. A beat up old commonwealth milsurp L1A1? I wouldn't pay more than $1,000 for it. $800 is a fair deal I'd say.
http://www.centerfiresystems.com/DRA-GUN-B.aspx
Yes, that is a PSL.

They only go for so much in the US because they aren't being imported anymore. The retail price is far lower I'm sure.

That's a clone.
Your comments on impactguns are baseless. They sell all their stuff at the period-average retail price for any given weapon. Their prices change with the market.

I own a kimber.
I would suggest a springfield for a fancy gun, or a colt for a plain jane gun.
I would not suggest a kimber. Now if they make something you can't live without that you can't buy else where, then go for it. Just don't expect it to be 100% out of the box. In fact, don't expect any 1911 to be 100% out of the box.

Err, wait. Sorry I thought the gun was an MSAR rifle. Still don't see the point in paying $1,000 extra on it though.
And I don't like Impact Guns because everything they have I can generally get for much less from other places.
For example, here's a PSL:
http://www.impactguns.com/store/RI1439-N.html
$900
Here's the same gun:
http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Romanian_PSL-54C_7.62x54R_Rifle.html
$580
Mmk?
