At close range it wont matter as much, and I can 100% guarantee you that a .380 shot at close range will penetrate more than enough to put someone down, especially with multiple shots on target, which would be the primary advantage of using a low power 9mm, being able to shoot accurately multiple times quicker.
I will grant your point about control-ability, but history and science both show that .380 is not consistently effective as a manstopper. .22LR can and has also killed people and animals, but you don't go deer hunting with a .22. I said it before, and I'll say it again, no man in a firefight ever wished he had a smaller gun of lesser caliber that held fewer bullets.
[editline]02:36PM[/editline]
Also, I don't aggree with people who say, "bIrDsHoT DosNt WoRk". It can EASILY penetrate. In fact, birdshot can easily KILL a person.

This will probably crawl up the ass of many here, but you know what's a far better investment for home defense than a firearm? A trained protection dog.
Here's why:
A) Deterrent. You don't keep your firearms in plain view. A large aggressive dog poses a psychological threat.
B) Alarm and control. A dog can simultaneously isolate and alert you to the position of a threat inside of your house.
C) Iniative and ferocity. A trained protection dog has both these qualities, qualities that win fights. While most humans will "freeze" when placed in a fight or flight situation for the first time, a trained dog will not. As such, they will always take the iniative.
Besides if you have a family, the dog will make a great pet. Contrary to popular belief protection dogs aren't devoid of personality or playfulness. They can however, be high tension. Combine with a smart firearm decision, and you've got a solid home protection investment.
but if the guy who just broke into your house shoots the dog, then wtf are you going to do then? Throw a book at him? I think i would preffer a gun over a dog because nothing gets a robber out of your house like a bigass fucking spas-12 autoshotty or a mossberg 935. So, in the battle against the robber with the glock 9, i would rather a 12-gauge that shoots out a hugeass chunk of lead rather than a dog that bites with 200 pounds of force. And i wouldnt have my gun hidden, i would have that bitch in plain sight with a siren thing on my front door so that i would have both a gun and a startled crook with me. And trust me, i dont miss when i have the pressure of battle on me. I fucking thrive on insanity!

Fixed.
So we went to a gun/outdoor store and went searching for a Mosin Nagant. We didn't find one, but I did see more guns in once place than I ever have before. Some of the notable ones I saw were a Kar98k, Desert Eagle ($900 hahaha), a revolver at least a foot and a half long ($2000 or so. Yes, $2000), a few 50 caliber rifles, an MP5 that shoots 22s (we might get one because it's cheap) and lots of others.
Must have been at least a thousand different guns there. The only other gunstore I've been to only has about 50 rifles and 30-40 pistols.
Edit:
To below post: $400-500, I couldn't see the tag, but that's how much it goes for other places.
How much was the "mp5"
Except for dealing with everything else that comes along with pet ownership.

You don't listen very well.
Oh well, when you have some punny kid stab you to death after you shoot him with bird shot... Oh wait, you can't talk if you're dead.
[editline]07:28AM[/editline]
What did you do to that poor 10/22?
That almost brought tears to my eyes... Damn man....
This is how you're supposed to customize a 10/22:

It's not an AR15 tacticool rifle, stop pretending that it is.
Also, pistol grip on a mossberg is WORTHLESS. You can't access the safety. It's fine on a remington but not a mossberg. Get a proper stock on that shotgun so you can actually use it.
[editline]07:39AM[/editline]
I just want to let you know, #4 buckshot is still acceptable for home defense if there's a possibility of over penetration being a problem. #4 is still .22 caliber
As for your recommendation on 9mm, yea, sure. But only in +p+ loadings. It'll come very close to a .357 magnum in muzzle energy, believe it or not.
Haha have you ever heard of a Run and Gun? Why the hell would I want a huge ass scope on the gun? Red dot is easier to get on target while on the move. Access the safety? Why have the safety on? Its for home defense, I don't carry my handguns with the safety on. O wait that's right they don't have one, don't rely on a safety rely on good training. Heres an example of a Run and Gun, not the best because he is slow but its an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu8JeMUox0Y

What do you mean you don't use safety? It's there for a reason; EVERYONE with a gun ALWAYS use safety, no matter how good their training is. People like you are the ones who shouldn't be allowed to own a gun. Also, Run and Gun? What are you, 12? Guns are meant to be accurate, and should be shot in a stationary position unless it is used for defense, i.e. military, police, self-defense, etc. Red dot scopes are also more expensive than your traditional scope.

LMAO How do I use a safety when both my handguns don't have them? Do you have your CHL? I've never met one person that has their CHL that has a safety engaged on their gun while they are carrying. What am I gonna do tell the guy pointing a gun at me a hey wait let me draw my gun and turn my safety off before I can fire. I carry +1 and have for over two years, never had my gun go off. It's called don't act like jackass and respect the gun you don't need a safely mechanism to properly carry a gun. Why trust a safety when you can trust your own thinking/training and having respect for the gun. Also FYI my local range holds Run and Gun events all the time Google it ;) Heres an example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYt-I3PYYNQ you can find more on your own.

That's a GSG. They're fun but unless you really like MP5s I wouldn't bother. They're popular here in California because the assault weapons ban doesn't apply to guns chambered in .22LR but still I think a 10/22 is a more sound investment.
