If I had to choose a specific grade of common steel though, I'd probably go with 4140. Though 12L14 is used as well. Both provide excellent strength and resistance to fatigue. I'd imagine that most firearm manufacturers are reluctant to reveal what formula/grade of steel they use though, trade secrets and all.
http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn55-e.htm I love this gun, also anyone know where I could buy this bastard, I want to take it down to a range and completely fucking obliterate anything I shoot >:D
I really envy you Americans. When I'm older and get my medical degree, I may become an American citizen just to get guns.
Tell me, would it be possible to get an L96A1 over there?
And if not, I would like to get my hands on a p90 or similar.
Went to the range yesterday.
My thoughts? 1911s are amazing to shoot, '03 Springfields kick like a mule.
.45acp kicks like a mule?
I got a girl who had never fired a gun before to shoot my .454 casull after a little instruction on how to hold the gun. She walked away surprised she could handle it.
.45acp is a soft push, it doesn't kick much at all. You want something that kicks like a mule... Try a .475 linebaugh.
[editline]04:07AM[/editline]
It's just plain overpriced. You can get a Hi-Point Carbine that does basically the same thing for under 200$ and you can buy an aftermarket stock to make it look like a Storm. The magazine capacity is lower though.
Comparing the hipoint carbine to a cx4 storm is laughable at worst.
About like comparing a wasar ak47 to an arsenal AK47.

I do believe he was talking about the M1903 Springfield rifle, not the 1911.

I in a way am glad I don't live in USA, as it seems like you really have to own guns to protect yourself from other people with guns/knives/whatnot, instead of just shooting for a hobby.
Most people do shoot as a hobby. I do keep some guns specifically for defense, even though the likelihood I'll ever need to use them on anything more than an aggressive wild animal is pretty low, same goes for every single gun owner I know personally.
But I doubt my 5 and a half foot long Matchlock would be any good for anything other than hunting and target shooting, and that's what it's built for.

The L96 might be a bit tough to get, but you can get a PS90 pretty easy (civilian variant of the P90).

Well think about it.
If you're going to own a 9mm carbine what will you use it for? Most likely just plinking. It's too big for concealed carry and in home defense either the handgun or the shotgun is the most widely recommended. Sure it's no Beretta, but for what you're ultimately going to end up using it for it'll work just fine and it costs 1/4 as much.

They're both available but a waste of money.
The P90 is available as a semi-automatic only rifle with an extra long barrel to comply with BATF regulations. It costs 1,000$+ and with that money you can just get a good AR-15 (Which since you got what you know from Counter-Strike is that rifle that CTs can buy and put a silencer on, although in America it's semi-automatic only and you can't have a silencer unless you pay a lot more), that would be a better choice than a P90 because the ammo costs less, is easier to find and it has more range.
As for the L96A1 I don't know if we have mil-spec versions but Accuracy International does sell their rifles here. Too bad the base models start around 3,000$-4,000$ and go up over 8,000$ depending on what exactly you want. Besides which it's basically a riced out Remington 700, you can achieve basically the same thing by buying a different custom Remington for a couple thousand dollars less. It'll still be expensive though.

A carbine is actually the best thing around for home defense.
It's a lot easier to shoot under stress and it's no bigger than a pistol at arm's length.
My ar15 would be my 1st choice for home defense. I'm using frangibles so over penetration issues an issue.
Don't get me wrong, I think the hipoint carbines are fine but I'd rather just spend the money and get something a little nicer.
A hipoint 995 was actually what I was on the wrong end of when I mentioned the story up earlier in the thread.

5.7x28mm is easier to find right now and is usually cheaper than .223/5.56.
From the carbine (PS90 16") it's comparable to a 5.56 fired from a 10.5" commando barrel.
It's considerably shorter than a 16" barreled AR15, it's lighter, and it holds 50 rounds.
It is way over priced, but I think it's an excellent home defense platform and it also has a cool factor to it that will make it a fun weapon to own and shoot.
DrMortician. Have you fired a hi-point carbine. Or a hi-point period? I have both a hipoint c9 handgun and 995 carbine. And they are extremely good guns. When going to the range my friends would rather shoot my 995 than my friends colt m4 or his FAL. You know why? Because its fun! And as for its reliability. I have never had a problem with it in the 3 years I have had it. The claims that hipoint are not good may have been true.. about 15 years ago when they were a new company. But now they have their shit together and make some of the most reliable guns. Who can honestly put down a no-questions lifetime warrenty?
I actually talked to a guy about the hipoint carbine once at a gun show and his friend actually sided with me. The guy said that they were unreliable peices of junk. And his friend looked at him and told him ask those dead colombine students what they thought of its reliability.

It's more of a quality control issue than a problem with the gun its self.
You probably got one that was actually well put together. But it's not uncommon to get a lemon.
The kids at columbine also used a tec-9... I owned one and it was a total turd that would jam every 3rd shot. Just because they had one that worked doesn't mean much.

Barrel erosion becomes an issue above 4000fps.
I'm not a physicist and can't do the math to find out just how fast you could get a bullet moving with gun powder.
Yeah the charging handle can be a pain at times, but really I don't think it's that bad. In my opinion, besides the odd controls, the G3 handles much better than the FAL, and it just feels better in my hands (as I've said before). As for the dirtiness, honestly I don't see any problem with it, personally I think it's fun to clean all that crap out of it, but I'm weird like that. Though the G3 would be hell with corrosive ammunition.
I dunno, I just love the G3/CETME (CETME mainly, I love the furniture), I can't really explain why.
While we're on the subject, what's the cheapest source of original German scopes for the G3? The ones that use that weird scope mount, forgot the name.
don't get that one you linked, that's the older model. I have this: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/SCP074-34.html
It's a later model G3 scope and they are all generally in pristine condition. They're actually really nice for the price; I believe the company that makes them is a subsidiary of Zeiss or something like that. Be aware that they have the typical German post-type reticule, but these scopes are meant to be used in a DMR-type situation and aren't meant for sniping.
Not mine, but it looks exactly the same:

Oh damn, I forgot how sexy the scopes for the G3 were
hurr hurr it's funny because most of these weapons are banned.
Gotta love those CAMERAPHONES!

Well that model appears to be sold out, I don't mind getting an older model as my CETME looks like something that fell off a truck in Fallujah Iraq, so I think something in a tad worse condition would fit it much better, just as long as it works.
Not everywhere, in some places you can own them legally.
