Yea why buy 1 solid, reliable weapon when you can buy a pile of shit for the same amount of money.
Only weapon of mine that has jammed EVER is the sks and that's before I fixed the Gas cylinder leak. I bought it not knowing it had one and found out when I went to the range. Other than that i've put all together 1000+ rounds through my guns and that's only gun to ever jam. They are all VERY reliable guns and the 2 hipoints have lifetime unconditonal warrenty. Cant beat that.
Typical vest that SWAT wears can range between type IIa and III. A type III could take a boat load of them, most IIa's could as well. Thing is vests don't stop kinetic energy, only the projectile, so you get a good punch from each shot. If someone were to unload on you with an mp5 with you wearing a type IIa vest and the shooter manages to keep all the shots on the chest only you'd probably be knocked over due to your bodys natural reaction to attempt to get out of the way of what is harming it.
However, with a type III the amount of felt shots would decrease (to how much I am unsure of) so once could feasibly continue to stand. Now if you were in a type IV vest you could probably take each shot and not even notice you were hit.
I doubt any SWAT unit wears IIA armor. That is about as tough as a Korean War-era military flak jacket. Hell, my school SRO (cop) wears a plate carrier with legitimate level 3 plates under his shirt.
When you consider that the impact of the average handgun round transfers roughly the same punch per square inch as the impact of a speeding car yes, you would very well be knocked down by a burst of fully-automatic fire from an SMG.
Bullshit. I've seen a SWAT operator take a full mag of 5.56 from an M16A1 to the chest nearly without even flinching. If there is enough energy in a bullet to knock down the target, the shooter will be knocked down as well.

Keep in mind the weight of the bullet that is being fired. With a 5.56mm you are typically shooting a 60ish grain bullet, while with a 9mm alone you are shooting a 115 to 140 grain bullet. With say .45 acp you could be expecting at least a 200 grain bullet, and if you were to receive a nice volley of those the kinetic energy would be enough. Never the less one must factor in things like adrenalin and whether or not it hit the trauma plate.
Is it okay to leave mags (like alluminum and steel G3 mags, AK mags and AR mags) fully loaded?
I usually keep all my spare mags loaded (minus one which I keep unloaded in the gun) but it's been bothering me lately.

in terms of kinetic energy
5.56 > .45 acp > 9mm
so..

Well it's not too good for the spring. If it's a short term thing it's not a big deal but if your leaving them loaded for months at a time it's defiantly fuck up the mag spring and cause your weapon to jam or improperly feed.

What are you basing this off of? I'm pretty sure with modern magazines you can leave them fully loaded, or nearly fully loaded for years at a time with no problems.
in terms of kinetic energy
5.56 > .45 acp > 9mm
so..

It may have more energy exiting the barrel but the bottom line is a 60 grain projectile hitting a surface is not going to transfer as much of that energy as a 230 grain bullet.

Out of the barrel and into the target. Try hunting deer with a 9mm and get back to me.
you have little understanding of energy dump.

I'm basing it off the fact that they still make springs out of spring steel, which they have used to make magazine springs for for ages. Yes a newer unused mag will laster longer than an older unused mag, but to keep them loaded for months at a time will fuck up both.

Have you hunted a deer with a 5.56? Considering the ranges I hunt deer here in Minnesota I'd be better off with a 9mm because a 5.56 goes right through a deer and lets him run off. I've hunted deer with .45 before and it worked just fine, you just have to hit a vitals area like any other weapon.

If you can place your shot with a .45 or a 9mm and get a kill great, my point still stands that a 5.56 is going to transfer more kinetic energy than a .9mm will.
I've seen many deer taken with .223 with upper torso/shoulder/lower neck shots, it didn't go all the way through except with the neck shot.

Really, look up about magazine springs.

Stupid response.
Those weapons are all extremely reliable, save perhaps the handgun.

I've heard that some people leave out one or two rounds from a loaded magazine, so the spring isn't fully depressed. Kind of silly but I guess it would work in theory. I suppose it would depend upon the amount of time you're keeping them that way... a few months wouldn't hurt I would say, but unload them every now and then and let the mag sit a while that way.

Hipoints handguns have gotten better 10fold in recent years. I understand at first the had problems but what beginning company wont? They have gotten it down now and I've had 0 problems with this gun. Didn't even need a break in period. Bought it brand new took it to the range fired off about 100 rounds nothing wrong with it. Only time I've ever seen one jam was when someone limp wristed it. And thats a common problem on most sliding guns.

I've heard that the pistols are a bit dodgy, but it depended on the specific pistol. Some users said they were outstanding, others said they were shit.
I guess you got an outstanding one.
I think Mort meant that he should have shoveled out for something more fun than a 9mm carbine & pistol, an ancient bolt gun, and a run of the mill carbine.
I'm not saying they're terrible guns to have (I have a few of those myself) but saving that cash and blowing it on an AR or something might have been better.

no
you can keep magazines loaded for as long as you like and it won't hurt them; mag springs don't wear out from keeping them loaded, they wear out from use, as in stretching and unstretching.
keep them loaded if you want to, it won't do any harm.

I understand what he was getting at, but really there was no need for that. Some people don't have the money to buy those sorts of weapons (ARs, etc) at leisure, and there's nothing wrong with the ones he has.
I dunno. If I came off as an asshole I apologize, it just seemed like an unnecessary post.

Yep. I dont understand Morticians comment either. Just because a gun costs 1,000 does not mean its highly superior to a gun that costs 350. When buying an expensive handgun the thing your really paying for is the name and luxury. Its just like clothes. A shirt from good will will keep you just as warm as a shirt from lacoste. Cept with lacoste your paying for that little aligator and the company name.
I bought a hipoint c9, Yes its ugly and alittle on the blocky side. But those little fancy 1911's with the pearl grips are far more expensive. Why? Well luxury. They both will put a bullet down range. And both will fire when you pull that trigger (Provided you clean and maintain them properly). Only different factor is size of the round and price.
I just don't get why people would buy a hi-point and not something like a cz82 or police trade-in glock, it boggles the mind. even makarovs have better aesthetics than hi-points

They don't have any warranty. It breaks your shit outta luck and then you have to pay the gunsmith who knows how much to fix whatever broke/went wrong.

please don't try to compare the hipoint to a m1911, you are really stepping out of what the hipoint it good at.
to say that the only difference between a nice m1911 and a hipoint is luxury is retarded..
I know I'm probably to late.

Just got 10 of them, all are brand new, chrome followers, parkerized floor plates, no dents, no corrosion of any kind, beautiful.
All of mine have eagle stamps on the rear ends and HK factory logos and markings as well as date of manufacture. They range from 1964 to 1987.

There's a plethora of surplus parts, and surplus pistols have an excellent reputation. Warranties aren't really all that important when you are dealing with milsurp, because milsurp in general is made pretty stout.

Another reason I didn't buy milsurp is because usually all those Cz pistols take a 9x18 round instead of the 9mm Luger. And alot of the shops around where I live don't sell 9x18. I also dont really like buying ammo offline.
Please inform me on how the m1911 is highly superior. I really would like to know.
i'm actually talking out of my ass because I don't know much at all about hipoints.
but im going to throw some crap out there anyways.
more accurate
higher/stronger build quality in all models
more reliability in all different conditions
i'm leaving out "hipoint looks like a total piece of shit and m1911 looks like its made from the right hand of god" simply because it's my opinion. I don't see myself ever buying a hipoint, only because I would buy in ideal guns, I wouldn't buy a gun of questionable quality.

why do you not like buying ammo online; all the ammo in bricknmortar shops are overpriced up the wazoo
9x18 is a really common round actually, mainly because of the fact that surplus pistols are common

50 rounds of 9x18 for $8.79. Buying ammo online is really the best way to go, other than gunshows. Even then, it's only economical if the price of admission + dealer markup is less than shipping and handling. Unless you find a good deal at a show, most of the time it's cheaper to buy online.
