Even so I'm not entirely sold. I don't know if a 5.56 round can do that consistently and at what range (in this case the range was within arm's reach, a shooting courtesy of a drunk cop)
Rifles are rifles, pistols are pistols. It's still going to put someone down much better than a .45acp. Just remember that. Also, faster twist rate=more stable bullet. Slower twist rate=more unstable and erratic bullet. The best wounds from the 5.56 are delivered by the 1/9 or slower. And with the heavier bullets, like the 75gr.
The Mossberg 500 is also a totally acceptable shotty right up there with the 870. :) [editline]02:15AM[/editline] Why? The 870 beats it in nearly every possible category.
Because really, the 870 is an ugly gun with no history behind it. I have no use for a shotgun besides something to blow shit up in my backyard with, why would I go for something I'm not interested in? The 97 spits out lead with the same reliability as any other shotgun (it's a fucking pump action, you can't tell me the 870 is more reliable), it has an action I'm much more comfortable with, it has history behind it, you can mount a damn bayonet on it, I like the exposed hammer and you can slam fire it.
I'm not sold either. I've shot boars and deer with .223s before, no such damage (to be fair, boars have pretty thick hides as is, and the mud they love to roll in gets caked on nice and hard) . I've seen countless photographs of 5.56 wounds from over in Iraq and A-stan. The wounds are characteristic of the round : small entry points with a slightly larger malformed exit wound.
And you know why that is? There's a lot of SBRs issued. You really need a minimum of 16" for the 5.56mm to hit the correct velocity to make an explosive wound. The longer the barrel the better. These retarded 10.5" commando barrels are pea shooters. 14.5" sucks pretty bad as well. When you're talking about collectable/curio weapons, you can't compare them to the newest wizbang stuff.
I don't get what he's saying anyway. When you're talking about collectable/curio weapons, you can't compare them to the newest wizbang stuff.
Exactly. An entirely different mentality goes into collecting historical firearms than just being a gun enthusiast. I mean, I like the new stuff, I like talking about it and all, I'd just never own any of them.
I used to fire this off alot before my dad sold it :( It was black, im going to get a new one some day. guns.

guns.
A new one? Hahaha, what have you been smoking? Colt stopped making revolvers ages ago. (To anyone who's sad about this, try a new smith&wesson... I prefer them to the colts.)
Colt has been unsuccessfully trying to put itself out of business for years now. "Gee, what do we make that people like to buy?" "The 1911?" "BRILLIANT! Stop all production immediately!" "Out Python is very popular and flies off shelves the minute it reaches them? Can't have that! Halt production right away!" The someone goes. "What do we make to take back the market share that we GAVE UP for NO REASON?" And the response is: "Let's make this thing here:" "It uses design elements from archaic and largely unsuccessful early automatics, the accuracy sucks, reliability is shit, it has a 5 ton trigger pull, the composite frame has a tendency to melt and it looks like something you'd shit out after a night at the Burrito Palace." "Let's make 20,000 and recall most of them in utter humiliation at a complete financial loss." "BRILLIANT!"

[editline]09:15PM[/editline]
This is true, but don't forget these same complaints also come from Marines - who carry M16A4s which sport 20 inch barrels. I have no doubt about the 5.56's to ability create terrible wounds, but we can't just toss physics out of the window because we feel like it, the 7.62 NATO cartridge will always impart more energy onto it's target. Obviously though, shot placement reigns supreme, both rounds will make a man dead just the same if it hits a CV system.
Buy black talons. If you find 1. Ha
Black talons really weren't all that special. They were a unique kind of hollow point that made sharp edges when it expanded and the bullets were coated with Teflon. A lot of bullets do that now, they just aren't coated with Teflon. EDIT: not teflon, Lubalox
Oh really? Interesting. Cause I don't know but someone was selling 10 9mm black talons for 75 at the gun show.
They're expensive because they stopped making them a long while ago and because of the stigma behind them. There was a myth circulating around that it was able to pierce body amour used by cops due to the "Teflon" coating and it was given the name of "cop killer" by the media. This was completely untrue, and for the record no law enforcement officer has ever died from a black talon. Not Teflon, actually Lubalox
I don't get what he's saying anyway. When you're talking about collectable/curio weapons, you can't compare them to the newest wizbang stuff.
Ohhhhh. In your original post you went from discussing missing practical weapons to stuff missing from the collection and I failed to follow the train of thought properly. I was suggesting a practical shotgun. So yeah totally my mistake. Sorry about that. As far as collecting goes, hell yeah a trench gun. Had no notable change on ballistic performance.
why would you buy an ati stock
It got rave reviews and it was cheap? Why, whats wrong with them? Seems sturdy as hell so far.
They're the ugliest thing you could possibly put on a gun, and they're known for being kinda flimsy.
Thats the side folders. Their one-piece stocks aren't know to have issues. Edit: And I think the SVD stock looks nice, thank you very much :saddowns:
One of my goals in life is to go to a shooting range.

I personally hate plastic stocks, they're ugly and they feel weird, wood is smooth and sexy.
One of my goals in life is to go to a shooting range.
Come to my back yard.
why would you buy an ati stock
I have an ATI stock for my shotgun. I have no problems with it. Don't diss ATI :saddowns: [editline]08:03PM[/editline]
One of my goals in life is to go to a shooting range.
I'm wondering, where do you live? And how old?
To each his own I suppose. I personally hate plastic stocks, they're ugly and they feel weird, wood is smooth and sexy.
I completely agree about wood being smooth and comfy, but I wanted a pistol-grip type setup, and the only way I could have had that with wood would have been a thumbhole stock, which would have been too expensive. I do plan on picking up a thumbhole stock at some point though. I wont feel bad about getting rid of the ATI stock since it was cheap.
Hey a hit's a hit. Even if he nearly killed three people and a dog in order to get that hit, and the hit was just due to it ricocheting...
True. I like your youtube videos.
