If we had something like this in America people would flip the fuck out 5 ways from sunday nowadays.

Responsible members of society using single shot small bore rifles for a legitimate sport?
OH FUCK THEY'RE GOING TO MURDER THE WHOLE CITY BANBANBAN.
Edit:
I swear, anti-gun advocates are honestly some of the most retarded people on the planet.

My thoughts exactly.
A lot of Australians don't like guns simply because they believe any stupid shit spouted by biased news programs/newspapers like this:

I love how they only show interviews with the fat people, and how the narrator speaks in that infuriatingly smug tone.
A lot of people claim we don't need guns for self defense because we live in a safe country, but every day you can read of news reports on Indian students being bashed, the elderly assaulted in their own homes and defenseless, pregnant women having their handbags snatched on trams.
The leader of the greens party here, Bob Brown, wants to ban all semi-automatic handguns. He's a senile old twat.
"I want enough lead to physically knock someone down. 9mm won't physically knock someone down."
What a fucking retard. I don't trust idiots like that with guns.
That's all well and good except for the biggest problem that I made a big point on.
Saying "I want a Groza" is like saying "I want one of those 25 foot long dragsters because they look cool". There are much more practical things out there that look just as good. 9x39mm guns are highly, HIGHLY specialized. It is meant for a very specific role, that is, close quarter combat with a reduced possibility of ricochet to prevent hostage injury with the possibility of silencing the round (because it's slow enough) while maintaining the ability to pierce armor within very short range. There are 7.62x39mm versions mind you, they make more sense but a bog standard AK will suit you just fine.
Meh, I can understand wanting a Groza. I don't want one, I think they are ugly as fuck, but if you are a fan of the bullpup design and russian weaponry, it's as good as anything.

Exactly - they only show interviews with the morons.

No, people who are anti gun advocates because they think that video games are the reason we want are retards
And whoever said I'm responsible?
Exactly - they only show interviews with the morons.
Also, all the people they interviewed are people who buy into the fear mongering by the NRA. Obama isn't a big gun lover like Bush is, but if he was so anti-gun then I'm sure we would be seeing that already. Also, he signed a bill that lifted restrictions on guns in national parks.

It's because he's not an idiot.
He spent a good chunk of his career in Chicago where he learned how to play ball with practically everyone, that's what he's been doing ever since he got into office. The really nice thing about him is that he isn't so much fighting the Republicans (which nowadays are overreacting way too much over every little thing that doesn't go their way) he's more into playing along and compromising. He knows that passing gun laws, regardless of how much he cares about the issue (or even if he cares at all, I think he has other issues on his mind) he knows that passing those kinds of laws is a very easy way to piss a lot of his opposition off with very little benefit on his end. So he'd be stupid to waste his efforts and lose supporters on the other side over something like that.
it can be done, one way or another. You'd be (maybe not *you*) surprised at the tenacity of Americans that want oddball guns- Someone is coming out with (admittedly expensive) L86 kits for example.
Who doesn't like oddball guns though? There's also a company making new FG42s in the US now, the German Paratrooper Rifle from WWII. And I'm sure most of you have seen that Pulse Rifle from Aliens.
I've even been contemplating the original Halo Assault Rifle, trying to come up with a way to make a live firing version. I think I've got a working concept but I haven't bothered doing much with it in 3D yet.
oddball guns are fun, but 99 times out of 100 they are way to expensive to be worth the novelty of them, I personally would love to have a VSS Vintorez, but it would be way too expensive to buy/shoot, and I can get other guns that would be just as much fun to shoot for allot less, and actually have some hope of owning said weapons, I can pretty much 100% garuntee you, that as much as I would like one, I will never own a VSS vintorez.

It can be as simple as buying/heavily modifying a bullpup stock for some gun like a 10/22, or as difficult as machining the whole thing from scratch and fabricating electronic systems/magazines for the round count indicator. Really, it's possible to make anything, just price and skills/resources are the only limitations. If someone can build a single shot .50 BMG rifle using a metal lathe and mill, surely someone can make something as wonky and stupid as a Halo assault rifle.
I wonder if you couldn't just take the shell off of a FN2000 and build a halo gun using the barreled action...
Popped down to Gander Mountain and had a nice gander at some handguns and gathering info on which one to get.
For giggles I took a look at the Ruger Super Redhawk they had. It was heavy, it was long, it was impractical, I LOVED IT.

Well see that's the problem, the stock of the gun is too short for the bolt to fully clear over the magazine and there is NO room to fit any existing bullpup action into the gun. I could just cheat and make it long enough but where's the fun in that? I can make the gun out of good steel, I just have to make it work first.
Telescoping bolt, possibly?
You can probably swag the feeding system from the Korobov TKB-022 prototype.

I have no idea how it works though.
Update on that FAL from forever ago...
I finally was able to get down to the shop. Of course as luck would have it (thank you Mr. Murphy), it was gone. I talked to the clerk and he said a gentleman came in and bought it about a week ago.
:frown:
On the upside I picked up some .30-06 and 7.62x54. They had some nice M1As... not sure about them though. I was looking at the AR-15s they had behind the counter... there were quite a few nice looking ones back there. Only problem is I know jack about good brands for AR rifles, except that DPMS is generally frowned upon it seems (don't know why). Tips?

get an aero precision lower (really popular atm for their cost and quality) and build your dream AR- it'd be cheaper and easier that way provided you have some semblance of ability with hand tools. Plus, you can build it on your own time when you can afford the next top-of-the-line component.

Colt, Stag, CMMG, and Bushmaster to name a few
Colt, Stag, CMMG, and Bushmaster to name a few
I hear bushmaster isn't all that great atm
I still say you should build your own, you'll get intimately familiar with how an AR15 works and you can build the exact gun that you want for a relatively better price
Oh someone mentioned Americans custom manufacturing oddball guns.
I give you...
A homemeade 7.62x51mm SVU that takes G3 magazines.

fuck yesss, this is actually cool because it likely cost more time than it did money (excluding the scope); if someone built something like this they probably have a bunch of spare AK parts lying around anyway. I love that sort of ingenuity.
you'd think they'd at least give it something as simple as a duracoat job if they are willing to do all that work to make it, though. Maybe they were going for the "surplus nuclear wasteland" look.
It's fun playing a game and knowing what gun your guy is using, but you just have a vauge knowledge base of what type it is.
For example, I know that Chris Redfield has a Beretta with a laser sight, but I don't know what KIND of beretta or laser sight.
It's an M9 or M92 or M92f or M92fs if I had to guess. All of those share the same overall look. Could also be a 96 but that shoots .40 S&W so I doubt it.

Edited in before you posted.
In terms of games, it always bugs me that everything is backwards. apparently this is because some modeler decided he could just flip the left handed model, and decided it looked cool to have shells flying across the screen. I still find it very annoying.

It started with the guy who did weapon models for HL1 and the original CS. He was left handed so he modeled them in the left hand and flipped them. People have been doing that ever since because it looks cooler.
The STALKER series is all messed up. They have ejection ports and scope mounts where they don't belong, sometimes in ways where it clearly doesn't work. For instance all weapons have ejection ports on BOTH sides.
