They aren't in the news, and you barely ever see them in the hands of modern infantry.
Neither are submachine guns yet they get plenty of attention.

Well, they are popular in books & movies, as well as the 'gangsta' culture. You might see Rambo or The Terminator mow down bad guys with an MP5k or an Uzi, but you won't see them ripping dudes apart with an FAL or an M14. G3 maybe, but people tend to think that is an assault rifle.

Not for infantry, which is what the media focuses on.

Yeah, but why? how did they become so popular and preferred over Battle rifles? Gangsta culture I can somewhat understand since it's all about concealability, but 80s action cinema was all about who had the biggest, meanest rifle in the largest caliber yet you never see them featured.

Not books.
If only i could find a use for my safe of weapons in my basement
I wonder where i could get bullets for World War 2 Era rifles..
Also, what would be better for a movie/reenactment, blanks or painted airsoft guns?
Not books.
Oh right Tom clancy's Delta ninja spec-ops warriors: the beginning
Still though, not every piece of literature focuses on them either.
I wonder where i could get bullets for World War 2 Era rifles..
.30-06, 7.92 Mauser, and 7.62 russian can usually be found and purchased at your average local gun store or online.
Other ammunition you'll have to look harder to find, those are the three most common i've seen though.
Heat is fucking awesome yes I agree. Did you know that the weapon reports are actual recordings?
Yeah, Michael Mann is pretty anal about his realism. Almost every movie of his that deals with any sort of ex-mil/police characters, he always forces the actors to take tactical training. HEAT, Collateral, Miami Vice, etc.

Bullets have changed very little, since WW2, many WW2 guns can use modern cartridges with no adjustments, or minor mods.
Also you are 10 and should not have a gun.

:sigh: Most WWII guns use modern ammunition. Especially German and American pistols.

Anywhere. Some are commonly available in modern commercial loads and there's tons of surplus for the rest. Also, I would go with blanks for reenacting.
Well how many movies can you name that actually have decent and realistic advisors for weapons, tactics, settings etc? There's a few, but in general, Hollywood picks shit based on what looks cool and sounds cool.
HEAT (Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer) is regarded as one of the most realistic movies, they had some great weapon choices based on the situations the characters where in. They used a FN FAL for security on a highway during an initial bank truck robbery, and later during a meet and swap Val Kilmer has a G3-pattern rifle providing overwatch on the meet vehicle.
I never said every. Also, they are featured in MOST special ops books.
Not exactly what I meant. The parts will for the most part be intact unless the weapon had tens of thousands of rounds put through it. Over time they degrade which can be slowed drastically by maintenance or preservation (which the soviets liked to do by dunking their weapons in cosmoline, packaging them and storing them in depots.) or through parts replacement (which really isn't necessary in most cases, guns do kinda last really long)

christ that's ugly
Very good pocket handggn actually, I have used a simmilar one.
When you consider the philosophy under which most modern automatics and their corresponding calibers were developed, being able to hit something beyond 50 yards is a neat bonus but unnecessary. That's what the rifle is for.
How many times have you shot a handgun at 50-100 yards? Like a service weapon?
I'm just curious because you don't sound like you know what you're talking about. It's a hell of a lot more than a neat bonus, it's something that may save your life. It's also a very good reason to pick a 9mm over a .45acp.

No, no it's not.

Anything bigger than a service round is effective out to 100 or so yards.
.454 casull can manage to shoot flat out to 200 yards if you load it right.
Oh god that revolver.
I came so fucking hard.
I just went to the Deagle(Magnum Research) webiste, cuz it is duh best handghun evar, and I found this.

Whats the .460 Rowlands range over the .45? I know it has more power but how much more range does it have?

Oh wow.
That does look really neat.
The pictures in this thread make me sad. Gun laws in Australia suck - Seriously, it's ridiculous, if you're over 18 you can just head into a camping store and buy a machete with a 24 inch blade but we're not to be trusted with anything other than single shot .22 rifles or double barreled shotguns when it comes to guns.
Airsoft guns are illegal here too, so we don't have any sort of alternative.

Actually, it looks pretty spacey. And you know facepunch love spacey things.

This is spacey too. Its an awesome gun. But its overfucking priced. Dad got his 4 years ago and it was 300$ cheaper than it is now.

I find it ironic that an Australian designed that weapon.
