I would only keep it for severe cases for those which have absolute concrete evidence against them for an extreme crime, are beyond help/support if they are mentally ill and do not genuinely regret what they did. I don't think it should be completely eliminated but I don't think it should be taken lightly either.
This pretty much sums up my opinion on the Death Penalty. Keep it reserved for serial killers and rapists of likes such as Charles Manson & Ariel Castro. I think it's pretty universally agreed upon that the world would be better off without these pieces of shit breathing on it.

I don't think that emulating their crimes by killing them is a moral or just thing to do. Instead you deal with them humanely while keeping them from being a threat to society, to show that you are more than just a killer, and have civility and morality.
Really, I think this debate is just boiling down to : Do the ends justify the means? Is killing somebody to stop crime necessarily a good thing?

I feel like the world would be much better off without capital punishment. I think that even if you kill 50 people, you shouldn't be put to death, because that is not humane. How can some people say that they find putting down stray dogs inhumane when they agree with death penalty? Death penalty is immoral and the government who carries on with the executions is only lowering itself to the offender's level. However, the main reason why I think that capital punishment should be banned, is that I believe that the government does not own anyone's lives. The government can and should own your freedom, if you murder someone or take something that doesn't belong to you, then you should be put behind bars, because you are a danger to society, and need to be rehabilitated, but the government shouldn't have the power to take your life. And the reason why countries that have death penalty have so many people going back to prison after leaving it is because the government of that particular country sees prison as a punishment, and it shouldn't be. Prison should be like a rehab center, where you try to make the criminals see what they've done wrong and then try to correct them by showing them what they can achieve if they stop committing crimes. This method is confirmed to work by basically all of Europe, that is how most european countries look at prison. if a country follows this path, then it will be obvious that death penalty is a punishment and not a measure to "rehabilitate" the inmate. Of course, if someone is clearly unable to be rehabilitated and cannot see what they've done wrong, then they should be taken to some facility where people can take care of such a person and stop the individual from harming society.
I believe capital punishment should be banned on principle. A complete ban on capital punishment sends out a positive message to the world, that we do not kill prisoners in the name of justice. Even if we might feel that someone has committed a crime so horrible that as long as they live they're a permanent threat to our society, by allowing capital punishment by the laws of our country, we send out the message that capital punishment is allowed by the laws of your country. A strict ban on capital punishment is a good thing for the same reason we have a ban on chemical warfare and nukes, because even though it's an effective means for us to deal with our problems, it's also a very nasty way for our enemies to deal with their problems. If we want to show ourselves a civilized society, then our country shouldn't do things that we consider barbaric when other countries do.

It would be more like putting them down. Animals get put down for much less then that. Keeping them alive and away from society is a waste of time and resources when they have already done society incredibly wrong.
You just compared human life to animal life
