• Code Lyoko Megathread incl. Season 5, Evolution (NEW)

Oh boy, I remember when Evolution was being teased. Back when we were still figuring they were going to use animation. The question I have is: What ever happened to Code Lyoko: Reloaded? It sounds like it's what Evolution is now - but I'd hate for them to use the plot details that we got leaked. I don't want to see a whole "Xana is back" scenario - it's been too long, and I don't want to deal with the new actors playing the same-old roles that the cartoon had. For historic purposes: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1253613/CL_reloaded_va.pdf https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1253613/CL%20Kidscreen.pdf I have no idea where I got this:
It will be similar to the premise of CL:R, except it's a corporation, not a government that revives XANA. Here is the current powerpoint http://www.moonscoop.com/files/FREE/CL%20Presentation%20MIPTV%202012.pdf Scroll down for plot ideas of season 5
Wow, I never knew there was a CL:Reloaded. But yes, the PDF does contain a ton of information on Evolution, and I actually have it up in the OP somewhere. In other news, I found a super-high res version of the Lyoko view of the internet: (click for full resolution, 2048x1536) It's now the background on my phone :)
Damn I loved this show, Nice to know it's returning.
Wow, that's nice. Are they aware they're putting that on the public internet?
I think they are. I have a feeling it was leaked purposely to generate fan interest. [editline]20th September 2012[/editline] Also, uncensored character pics
I'm sorry but Odd doesn't look like his animated counterpart. I mean I'm not asking for the entire yellow arrowhead hair (Although that'd be great) Maybe I should just wait until his behavior in the show.

Aelita doesn't look anything like she should.
While I agree that they all look a bit, uh, "off," I'm okay with the results and will reserve judgement until I've seen them in action. I can imagine the producers had a fair bit of difficulty in finding actors with a good balance of skill and resemblance to the characters, as well as balancing the characters' original appearances with the constraints of physical reality. I'm sure the strangeness of it all will quickly fade after watching some episodes. I'm actually particularly happy with Aelita, I'm not sure how they could've made her look much better.

I've added links to every season 1 episode in English on Youtube to the OP, and will be adding the rest of the seasons later. I also added a bit more detail to the plot section, and added Smartguy5000's picture of the live action characters to the OP as update 5.
From Code Lyoko's Facebook page.
Attention fans! Tomorrow at 10:00am PST, we will be unveiling the first images from Code Lyoko: Evolution! Stay tuned!
From http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118058029%3FrefCatId%3D14&usg=ALkJrhiAs9q4ifeCJ4I3awuEVC3UR4QwcA
Meanwhile Moonscoop is developing a hybrid version of its series "Code Lyoko." Previous seasons mixed 2D and 3D animation to tell a story of school friends who secretly enter a virtual world to battle a malevolent computer program. In "Code Lyoko Evolution" live-action characters will become 3D in the virtual world. First images will be unveiled at Biarritz. Moonscoop topper Christophe di Sabatino thinks the approach has export potential. "Outside of Europe, in India, China or the U.S., we can sell it as a format," he says. "We can deliver all the CGI and they can shoot their own live-action with their own casting."
So it looks like they're suggesting other markets can shoot their own versions of the live action segments in a localized language, and then air that. I guess that solves lipsync issues inherent in a plain language redub, although now all bets are off once again regarding casting, talent, and appearances for the English version. Hopefully whoever picks it up in the US/UK puts as much care into the live action shots as Moonscoop is with the French version.

If other places want it we'll give them the animations but they have to pay for their own actors.
That's how you're reading it. And that's why a lot of people are extremely pissed off. Because that's going to suck.
That's how you're reading it. And that's why a lot of people are extremely pissed off. Because that's going to suck.
May I ask where you're seeing lots of pissed off people? I just watch the codelyoko.fr (through google translate) and lyokofreak forums, and the first is mostly just speculation (not to mention they're French so the "sell as a format" concept doesn't apply to them since they get the "official" version) and the second is nearly silent, and the few posts that do show up are usually pretty intelligent and acknowledge that we won't really know until we see it ourselves.
Well the sneak peak is out, and... DAMN. That was surprisingly awesome.

Also, DAMN you beat me to it.

It'd be a miracle if they show his virtual form. Hopefulyy they include english subtitles
Did I see Jeremie become virtualized in the beginning? It'd be a miracle if they show his virtual form. Hopefulyy they include english subtitles
Wow, I didn't even notice that at first. Maybe they were just trying to preview the outfits? As for language, it looks like Moonscoop is only making the French version, and selling the CGI to other companies that would show it in other places (for example, if Cartoon Network bought it to show in the US, they would also have to shoot their own versions of the live action scenes in English.) There's some concern that this might mean that the non-French versions of the live action scenes might look bad as other companies will probably be more concerned about spending as little money as possible on re-creating versions in their own language than with making it look as good as Moonscoop is, but there's really no way to tell until we see the real deal.
why do they have VERY large foreheads? I can land 5 747's on their heads.
why do they have VERY large foreheads? I can land 5 747's on their heads.
It seems to be a fairly polarizing issue - some say it ruins the show for them, some (myself included) don't even notice. Unfortunately, the best images of the characters I could find for the OP happened to capture them in maximum forehead mode.. it's not usually so bad during most of the episodes. Even when it is, I don't even realize unless I'm looking for it.
Well well, look what I found. Odd looks oddly young in that photo
His actor is 14 after all, when most of the rest are 19-21. Not sure about Aelita or Jeremie though. Edit: I agree though, he does stick out with an age contrast like that.
So it looks like a full episode will be shown at MIPjunior, and possibly online, where Moonscoop will be looking for distributors to purchase Evolution: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:iJwc97e5LC8J:tbivision.com/show-of-the-week/2012/09/code-lyoko-evolution/15891/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us For the sake of content, here's a few screencaps from the preview courtesy of CL evolved: ] (Is that a tower in sector 5?
