I like your optimism, guys.
Wait, did they just say they're gonna use that cube technology for the video? If they do, no hope of that shit looking anything like the concept art. Game's art style looks promising in concept art, but the end product is gonna look like shit. Also dem pre-order bonuses. For only $10 000 I can eat dinner with them at E3, only another couple hundred dollars for tickets! What a steal!
?
Not quite, but I enjoyed the trailer. What they claim to be using is "Marching cubes", a system from 1987. It's not anything revolutionary and has some bad flaws. Basically, it's voxels with some complex algorithm that connects them with a polygon mesh. As you can see from their "tech demo", it looks awful in a video game as it's main purpose is Medical visualizations. Looking closely you can see much texture stretching etc. The concept art they post would not really work in marching cubes, for example, the huts and bridges those lizard things use. Sorry if I got anything wrong, got most stuff from this wikipedia article that I read during the huge voxel craze. Mother of christ it's been funded PLEASE let this shit crash and die What worries me is the fact that I hope this does not encourage any other twat with a microphone to think he can make a video game we don't need them
I am actually really mad that these idiots managed to raise the money.
I hate the quantity over quality approach they've taken with their videos, they used to be entertaining but it seems like they're just pumping out videos to appease their rabid fanbase.
I am actually really mad that these idiots managed to raise the money.
At least it wasn't that meme tower defense game.
Update 5 people gave $10,000. What.
IF they make the game good, and that's a BIG if, then I may consider buying it, but it remains to be seen, however, I don't want to buy it considering that money would go to them even though they aren't even making the damn game.
Not sure if anyone in the thread has realized, but that $300,000 didn't just come out of no where; there's other people who actually want the game. They wouldn't have reached their goal (and beyond) if every last person thought this was a dumb game/idea.
It's gunna be shit and an utter disappointment to whoever contributed and I am going to laugh at them.
I dont believe that yogscast is going to use all the money from kickstarter for funding the game. Its $250k plus and nothing is protecting that money in all honesty because kickstarters terms and use for money protection is extremely broad.
engine still looks like total shit

They should have just made an interactive version of the map from Shadows of Israphel.
The chances of this actually turning out nice, or actually being finished are small, that's one thing for sure.
I wouldnt mind these guys if they weren't so hugely out of shape, it just makes them look like total nerds
This is plenty proof that not everyone's game ideas should be realized.
I cant really say im so AGAINST this game and yes there raising money,at the end of the day videogames is a business and good for them. I havnt donated and probley wont but ill be curious to see the finished product.
I wouldnt mind these guys if they weren't so hugely out of shape, it just makes them look like total nerds
I dislike them as well, but being out of shape is a really stupid reason to not like someone who does commentary.
Wow. the game is really ugly in it's current state, are they going to improve it's looks?
Wow. the game is really ugly in it's current state, are they going to improve it's looks?
I am guessing they probably won't. They will call it the "art style" and their legion of fanboys will drool all over it.

Wait, this made $300,000, the dead linger just broke $100,000. That's still a shit tonne of money, but how can yogscast get more then what everyone wants in a zombie game.
This is plenty proof that not everyone's game ideas should be realized.
I think the amount of donations prove there are people out there who want to see it done. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you completely ignore it, how does it affect you at all? I'm going to wait 7 months and see what the alpha looks like before I decide what I think of the game.
i wonder how many african children could have been saved with that 300,000...
If anyone is wondering what's the beef with Notch and Yodacast, skip to 15:45 in this video.
It really boggles my mind how unfinished and how little there really is in Minecraft. The combat is shit, the updates are pretty shit, the building is its only saving grace because survival mode is pretty terrible and boring.
It's almost certainly just their fans giving them all the money.
They're probably giving money because they want the game, not just for shits and giggles.
