Just listening to these two pisses me off they sounds so insanely fucking smug with themselves
What would you do if you were part of a popular duo that make fun videos and a game developer decides to make a game out of you two? Would you just flat out tell him to fuck off?
Not quite, but I enjoyed the trailer. What they claim to be using is "Marching cubes", a system from 1987. It's not anything revolutionary and has some bad flaws. Basically, it's voxels with some complex algorithm that connects them with a polygon mesh. As you can see from their "tech demo", it looks awful in a video game as it's main purpose is Medical visualizations. Looking closely you can see much texture stretching etc. The concept art they post would not really work in marching cubes, for example, the huts and bridges those lizard things use. Sorry if I got anything wrong, got most stuff from this wikipedia article that I read during the huge voxel craze. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marching_cubes
They just aren't doing it right. You can achieve very neat things with marching cubes. Still, using this wouldn't probably be feasible for anything else than the terrain.
Pretty sure they are the ones that had the idea in the first place.
http://kristafer.blogspot.co.uk/ This is the blog of main developer behind it. Basically it was sort of his idea originally, then him and the yogscast added more ideas to it over time. He's been working on it a few hours a day for the past few months and now I assume it's going to blow up into a full time job for him and his team, funded by the fans.
Its why stuff like this makes me afraid to make a kick starter for my game project. You know what, might as well make a good chunk of it, put it up as a alpha and then start my kickstarter so people can download the alpha and decide if they want it to be funded so i can continue it.
They're probably giving money because they want the game, not just for shits and giggles.
I highly doubt it, when the same idea hit Kickstarter a while back without the Yogscast name, it barely got funded, and it had the MUCH lower goal of 20k, and it was in a much more complete and better looking state than this is, with more ideas laid out more clearly.
lol
"Greatest lunch time in your life" ... I can think of many things better

He means that they aren't just giving them money because they want to give money to the yogscast, they probably actually want to see a yogscast game.
The game looks a bit entertaining, but in the crystal cave video everything looks so out of proportion. The players need to be much taller, otherwise they seem like ants.
Why do you care? It's not your money so who gives a shit. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Grow up.
The problem is that Simon and Lewis are going to be making money which they don't deserve considering they aren't doing shit for the game.
I love how opinion and speculation become facts if you like or dislike somebody enough.
I love how opinion and speculation become facts if you like or dislike somebody enough.
How is that they aren't doing anything speculation? They have a developer to do their work for them, that's a fact, a well known one.
How is that they aren't doing anything speculation? They have a developer to do their work for them, that's a fact, a well known one.
Well actually, that doesn't mean they'll be doing nothing. They said that they aren't doing any coding, but there could well be other things to be done. At the very least, I assume they''ll be doing some voice-work and character design, but it's all speculation extrapolated from one bit of text. Secondly, I was talking more about the "fact" that Simon and Lewis will be getting money for this. Yes, it's likely that the Yogscast will get some money though licensing of the name, use of characters and voices, etc. but it isn't a fact at this point, it's just speculation. Who knows, they might say that having their own game is payment enough and let Winterkewl have all the rights. We don't know and probably won't know for quite a while. They haven't actually released much information about the project yet, but people already seem to know exactly what the finished game's going to be like, how much various people are involved, financial agreements and how much these people actually "deserve".
if there's going to be crystal harvesting, there's a mmo for that http://www.planeshift.it/ (there was a time where all you could do was harvest crystals)
