We'll see about that :v: [editline]14th June 2011[/editline] What makes you say I don't know dick about religiousness? Seriously, what indicated that? I don't know where to begin with you.. You don't know dick about religiousness for starters.

this is a good point on a similar note why would black americans want to be christians when the justification for the slavery of their ancestors was all based on the bible
The key phrase is "based on" The slave owners didn't enslave people because they were following the bible. They justified their own actions by interpreting the bible in a way that suited them.

You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.
I was referring to this: http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_slav1.htm Which is what was being talked about in the post I quoted.
yeah but it's pretty fucking clear it's not about interpretation the bible specifically and thoroughly condones slavery, no beans about it bro
I would normally just say "Read the post I quoted and the article again", but because it's you scorpio, I'll explain what I meant. DOG-GY asked
why would black americans want to be christians when the justification for the slavery of their ancestors was all based on the bible
Slavers justified their kidnapping of black Africans, by quoting Genesis and saying that their slaves were descendants of Ham and were therefore under an old testament curse. Really, they were just taking people that they could get away with taking at that time and making an excuse.

So you concede that the Bible justifies slavery, just not in that way.
I never specifically said the bible condones the slavery of blacks, just that it condones it in general. So any instance of slavery being condoned in the bible works to prove my point. Sorry that wasn't clear. So again, why would a black person, or anyone who has ever been enslaved in such a way, ever want to be a christian?

I don't know. I only know a few black Christians (this city is about 80% white) and not all of them are descendants of slaves, but I'll see what they think about the subject. I don't think many Christians consider Jewish law to be a major part of their religion.
So again, why would a black person, or anyone who has ever been enslaved in such a way, ever want to be a christian?
Ever read the book 'Roots'?
What makes you say I don't know dick about religiousness? Seriously, what indicated that?
You said you don't believe in "religion" which makes absolutely no sense, and clearly indicates that you indeed don't know dick about religion or religiousness, or that you don't have any interest in it besides from to argue about the existence of the man-made symbol of something truly good; the God. It's about a lot more than "God" but you wouldn't know because you struck me as a person who doesn't even need to know.. much like many of us around here, besides from those who are interested in religiousness in general.
Facepunchers are 80 percent of the times massive bigots over something or other, whats new?
Yes but a fair chunk of religious people are massive bigots too. And that's the other half of the problem.
I have no problem with people being religious but I find it silly when they try to act like their beliefs are logical.
you know that's just great.. everyone keeps saying that. which means no one's learning, and those "religiously silly" people are standing in the way too. ain't that a bitch
Hey guys, did you know there was a double headed penis inside you keeping you together? It means jesus is inside you, thus Jesus is gay!
The problem with religious extremists is that they try to weld religion to science. RELIGION IS NOT A SCIENCE, IT IS FAITH IN A SUPPOSED SUPREME BEING THAT SUPERSEDES ANY LOGICAL OR SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION. That's why it's called faith!
Well thank you for clearing that up I am sure no one else has made that point clear before.
Ever read the book 'Roots'?
no i dont read ever im not a christian because i dont wanna have to read that big ol' book!
Faith is not scientific. This is ridiculous regardless of whether or not you believe in a religion or not.
you don't "believe in religion" god damnit.
you don't "believe in religion" god damnit.
nobody gives a shit
We are edgy and mature atheists here, get out of our atheist only club.
Yes but a fair chunk of religious people are massive bigots too. And that's the other half of the problem.
I'm sorry to say it, but many atheists are also bigoted. Many feel they're intellectually superior over others only on the basis of being an atheist.
nobody gives a shit
back to square one.
back to square one.
It's clearly just you being bothered by his way of wording it. "Believe in a god"/"Believe in a religion" same shit
I'm sorry to say it, but many atheists are also bigoted. Many feel they're intellectually superior over others only on the basis of being an atheist.
I think they feel intellectually superior over other on the basis of being skeptics.
i find it funny how comments are disabled. and it saddens me that there are more likes than dislikes. gotta love christian extremists. wait, sometimes cross shaped holes are autogenerated in minecraft. NOTCH IS GOD. (dont get worked up over it. you would have to be stupid to beleive notch is god)
I found a floating cross in the Nether. God must be a zombie pig man.
