Nationalism, religion, social unrest, fanaticism, there are many causes.
Strong beliefs.
A regime that doesn't instill appropriate levels of fear.
I really wanted the first post to be "Terror"
Religious nut-jobs!
Religion coupled with morons
Yeah I guess its this. I wouldn't agree with "Nothing specific causes it" though.
Well, it could be anything from political fringe groups, to revolution, to beginning war, to ending it, to religious extremists, to pissed off red necks, to angry hippies and PETA- there's a wide range of things that could spark someone to attempt a terrorist attack, there's not just one specific reason or cause to all terrorism.
Crazy people.
Basicaly this.

Haters gonna hate. Edit: Terrorism is caused by people who want to create terror, for any reason, durr.
Terrorism isn't some ideology. Nothing specific causes it. It's simply groups or peoples who do not have the ability to wage full scale conventional warfare, therefore reverting to insurgency and low-profile, high-risk, high-damage attacks. I mean, we throw the term around like the western world did with Communism back in the 50s-80s. It's not like there's a Terrorist Party or Terrorist State.
I do agree with you, in some cases, such as Palestine's method of fighting off Israelis. Although in the cases of many groups who inflict acts of terrorism aren't nations, so they truly can't fight a war, or even attempt to, unless there is a specific revolt (such as the Sandinista's who took on the Nicaraguan government, although it was a full out war, not an insurgency that just never ended until the rebels just died out...). So there can be cause to terrorism, even if it isn't a justifiable cause, it is a cause nonetheless. I do completely agree there is no ideology to terrorism though, I mean who wakes up and says "ahhh, can't wait to do a terrorist act today!"...
Everyone's just referring to Arabs and to their insurgencies and groups, but so-called domestic terrorists aren't often religious extremists or 'pissed-off Muslims'. Like I said, it's not an ideology.
This is a good point Perhaps the true answer to this question is "mad people"
This is a good point Perhaps the true answer to this question is "mad people"
It's really a combination of people who have lost a few nuts and bolts and extremism.
terrorism isnt real its all a hoax to get u to spend ur money on american flags
Crazy people.
Except terrorism is actually a brilliant method of attracting attention to a cause or group of people. "The media", so to speak, has always been partially sensationalist, playing off the fears and concerns of their audiences for profit. Meanwhile, you, Joe Terrorist, have a cause, one which you can only further (in your opinion) by force. However, you lack the means to use outright military action, or even guerrilla tactics. Cue terrorism. You give "the media" a sensational story, and they do the rest of the work, perpetuating an illusion of force behind you and your cause.
Mainly religious extremists.
It's o.k I still love you!
thats nice, even though u do not know me u still love me, u Americans have funny customs
Small bands of people that are usually led by the factors mentioned before can only turn to guerrilla terrorism as the western superpowers are too vast and overpowered to face head to head in a war. Their alternative is causing social unrest and pandemonium.
Our 4th dimensional lizard overlords of course.
