I've seen the first 2 teirs always on the park. all of the dogs in my neighbourhood know me. probably cuz i walk half of them
That'll only agitate the dog more and you'll be fucked if you end up losing balance due to kicking, it will only work if you can beat it and get it off its legs, you're fucked more-so if it's a larger dog and can take a kick.
What and stomping on the ground like a retard is a much better tactic when faced with vicious dogs.
Op I'd love to know what brilliant source you got your information from
Mainly because most of it is wrong, and in a court of law you would be seen as the one provoking the dog, even if it was off a leash
Beat the dog down. If you're unable to beat the dog down. Pepper spray the fuck out of it. If the owner starts bitching pepper spray their asses too. Tell them next time control their dog and their temper.
rated dumb because that is animal abuse, u bastard
I work at a pet store, I know that feel.
It's amazing how many people come in that can't control their dogs. Most of the time they just bark non stop/jumping which is just annoying, but I've had a few moments where I am a bit scared that I'm going to get attacked. We get plenty of friendly dogs too, but it's still baffling how people own these animals and have no clue how to train them.
Also, NOBODY cleans up their dog's shit or piss in the store. That doesn't really bother me since it takes like 5 seconds to clean (Even though it is gross.), but what gets me is they don't even tell anyone. They just wait for someone to find it.
My family have a Golden Retriever, about 19 months now, only thing i hate about her is her stubborness.
When taking her for a walk and i go in a direction she doesn't want to, she lies down and stares into my eyes 'till i change the route.
Sometimes i thinks she controls me with her twised puppy-eyes and that slick smile.
And only thing other people has to fear is her wet nose and tongue, she enjoy the smell on strangers.
but i do hate how my neigbours dog barks, like A LOT. at first, im okay with it but not when it's FUCKING 3 A.M.!!!!
Holy shit OP.
It's a dog. BARKING at you.
And you're expecting the owners to comply with your "MADAM, I DEMAND YOU CONTROL YOUR CANINE!" bullshit?
They're more concerned about the aspie who's barking and stomping at their dog.
Grow up.
just cuz a dog arfs or barks at you it doesn't mean that they are our of control. god OP, your an idiot.
To be honest I think his story is probably exaggerated, but as has been already said, growling and barking doesn't mean it wants to tear you too pieces.
I repeat -
When a dog's lips curl back this shows that the dog has a strong urge to bite.
And I guarantee I have exaggerated nothing.

Wrong, the animal is aggressive, I try to scare it off, hardly my fault.

Not barking, baring teeth and full on growling at me within just a few feet of me. You are a perfect example of an idiot who thinks it's ok that your dog can disturb others. I have had dogs bark at me, I don't care about that, I can differentiate.
To further then label me as autistic and tell me to grow up just shows me that you are incapable of actually applying logic to an argument, resorting to immature name calling and provoking commands.
None of you were there, yet so many of you insist on second guessing my story for no good reason. You state that I overreact yet you didn't even see the thing which I was reacting to. You seem to have this romantic and unrealistic view of dogs, either formed by the fact that you never leave the house or have simply not encountered it yourselves.
I'm not making shit up here, I have encountered many dogs and I can identify aggression and playfulness / excitement.

OH THE HORROR! THE DOGS HAD TEETH!
Why don't you yell at the birds for displaying their sharp beaks while "threatening" you with their "war-songs"?
I highly doubt you function in social situations.

Again disregarding logic and throwing in examples which don't make sense.
As I have stated now several times, dogs baring their teeth means that they have an urge to bite. Coupled with growling the intention is obvious.
But I doubt you'll listen to reason, your entire argument consists of making up ridiculous assertations about my personality and calling me autistic.

Yes. Because my argument revolves around the fact you have no fucking idea how to world works, and assume your knee-jerk reactions are justified.

So mature. You even took the time to go to my profile to post the comment "Aspie"
You're really showing you're the better man here.
QQ more, I'm not stomping at dogs in a park.

HOLY SHIT, you think the whole world is out to get you.
Grow a fucking pair.
Our neighbour was walking her dog in the town when two huge and angry rottweilers attacked her and the dog. She got really scared and she yelled for help. What does the owner of the dogs do?
She yells "Control your damn dog"
Why the hell don't people fucking keep aggressive dogs on a leash. goddamn.
[editline]8th August 2011[/editline]
This happened just today btw.
Because a dog in the park is just as dangerous as a wild bear. You could just keep running and they'd get bored and leave you alone. Have you tried that?
I'd love to see you run faster than an animal that was originaly created for hunting.
Dumbass.

UM excuse me but why do you think birds work the same way as dogs?
Why would you ever think that a bird is displaying its beak as an act of aggresion when its beak is always visible

I know you, you're the kind of guy that would try to ignore the dog then start sweating uncontrolably once it would walk up to you and start licking you

Better than shitting myself with fear, stomping around and trying to victimize myself because, apparently, Jallen is completely incompetent at anything and everything. Ever.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but the way you're handling these situations is pretty terrible.
I don't see why you're on some mission to prove your manliness to some stranger and their dog, stamping and growling at the dog isn't going to do shit other than aggravate the situation and yelling at the owner isn't going to do shit either. You sound like you're pulling all this nonsense because you don't want to feel like you were intimidated into doing nothing.
Just stay calm, ignore the dog and continue running. If you honestly feel like the dog appears unnaturally aggressive (I have no problem with dogs at all, I think you're letting your paranoia get the best of you), then slow down to a calm jog and make sure not to let it out of your sight until you're at a safe distance.

It's not that I want to prove anything, but that I feel that it is wrong to just ignore something which is potentially dangerous. I have a huge problem with dog owners who think that this kind of thing is acceptable. I want to make it their problem, if they are never challenged about it, then it will not change.
Though I've taken some advice from the people in this thread and when I next have a problem I'll try to stand my ground assertively and try some stuff like "sit" or "no".
Get a dog whistle, it shuts my rowdy fucking bark machines up in an instant. They don't bite, unless you provoke them to bite, like wearing a hat or being a dick to me.
My neighbors used to have a batshit insane dog that would run at anyone walking past their house growling and barking like it was going to attack. They payed me to "walk" the dog when I was younger. The thing had gotten used to me to the point I was able to get a collar on it but it was so fucking lazy it wouldn't go more then a few feet off their property. One day I went to put its collar on and it came at me like it was going to kill me for absolutely no reason. Despite this my neighbors wanted me to keep trying to get him to walk with me which I agreed to as long as I still got payed even if he didn't go. Fortunately they always left my money on a table right next to the door so all I had to do to get payed was put a nice thick work glove on, stick my hand in the door and grab the money before the dog tore my arm off. It took them three months to realize that it was a lost cause.
I feel that it is wrong to just ignore something which is potentially dangerous.
Then I'm sorry but the one at fault for causing these situations is you, they're only dangerous situations when you go in there and turn it into that.
Growling and yelling at them isn't going to do anything, you're just going to end up causing an argument and making the situation worse for everyone involved. If you really wanted to change shit then you wouldn't be tackling petty incidents like these, you're just doing it for your ego.

Just ignore it.
I really don't mean to insult you here and I don't want to turn this into a shit flinging competition, I'm just trying to get you to understand that you're the one turning these situations into what they are. Anyway, I'm off to bed.
"just ignore it" is the worst advice I have seen in this thread, simply because it's the best way to get hurt.
Maybe it is a bit about ego, I don't know. I feel that it is wrong to stop and go back in the opposite direction, in a public place I should be able to go where I want without being threatened.
I would rather exercise my rights and have it cause a confrontation than back away and let them go on as they are.
The shouting / stomping is pretty much what comes straight to mind when in the situation, it's just about keeping the dog at bay. I'll be trying a more assertive action if/when I have a problem again.
dogs are dogs, they are animals, just like we are. they are just like us, sometimes we ourselves are out of control and there is no one controlling us
dogs are dogs, they are animals, just like we are. they are just like us, sometimes we ourselves are out of control and there is no one controlling us
Hence early warning signals and the correct responses to these, therapy, jail-time, houses of correction (the forced therapy kind) and drugs. Oh, and on top of that, we have parents and law-enforcers to make it very clear what you can and can't do. Try this with a dog, it's a lot harder.
As a 12-year old, I've had a big dog run to me as we were playing with a football. It snagged the ball, and pierced it, then proceeded to rip the thing apart. Once it was done, it turned to me and charged. Out of panic, I stuck out a foot, which the dog rammed into with his face. It got scared enough that it turned around, back to his owner who just came running to. He gave me twenty bucks for the ball, even though I told him it was a cheap, 3 bucks one. He apologized, and explained how he was very happy no one was hurt. The dog was aggressive, but in training, and had escaped his yard (he lived in front of the football field). I took no further action against him.
But yeah, OP, people that have dogs that are a liability, and leave them to run around unleashed are idiotic people. I feel bad for the dog though, when it has not learned that biting people is a very bad thing, and then proceeds to be put down for it, just because the owner failed at their task.
Since my Staffordshire bull terrier hates people he doesn't know, we have to keep him in the kitchen or in the garden when we have people round. Last year, I had a friend round shortly before going to school.
I went to the kitchen to get something after specifically telling him not to enter, and next thing I know the fool is kneeling next to my dog's bed, with the dog growling loudly and with teeth completely exposed. Not a friendly greeting if you ask me.
I told him to get the hell away, and he ignored me. Reached out to stroke the dog, who looked like he was going to take his hand off and actually tried lunging before I had to shove my friend out of the kitchen, and I was just stunned for a while later as he laughed like nothing could have gone wrong. My dog has shown warning signs to my other friends who come over, but they are wise enough to stay away from the kitchen.
I don't think he realizes what an asinine idea it was to try and stroke a dog who was giving him all the warning signs. My dog isn't friendly, and it would have been my fault if something had happened. A lot of people don't realize how dangerous a dog can be, even if it is friendly at times and looks cute.
I wasn't about to have my friend's hand took off and my dog put down.
You can get better exercise with a dog chasing you.

you get stronger, after he bites you
