Cool song. Also good drums and guitar tone. What do you use to record?
Thanks! I use sonar 8 producer edition with POD farm for guitars/bass and a mix of different drum samples for the drums.

A metal song. That's refreshing!
Nah, but it's good! I liked the second half the best, after that hyperspeed thing. Very nice!
I know the thread is a week old, but I just felt like sharing this. A friend said he enjoyed it, so I guess that means it's not total random crap.
I'm not going to say too much about it except that it's supposed to be industrial metal-y, it's not complete, and I have lyrics for it.

I need to rework the lyrics a bit (not so much what all is here, but the lyrics later on).
I hope it's better than my last one. It's certainly not as chaotic (at least, in my opinion).
One final thing I have to say is if you stream it off dropbox, it has a different set of MIDI instruments than what I exported (which is strange). The guitar and drums are meatier, which I like, but the bass is really hard to hear. In the version I exported, the bass is a lot more audible. If anyone wants, I can link a bass-enhanced version (though that bassline isn't too terribly inventive...)

:aaaaa:
That's amazing. It sounds like a real song.
Around 0:23 in I expected a soft, crooning male voice to come in. My body was all psyched up and everything for it, too.
The chorus part around 1:00 (can't recall exactly where it starts, starts again at 2:35, though [just hit it as I type this]) is amazing.
I want to see someone put vocals to this. Your friend did a great job editing it, and you did an amazing job composing it.
I feel like crud now. :saddowns:

Solo at 3:35. :aaaaa:
And you can do the exact same thing by just listening.
!
You are missing the point. Using music theory I can already know how something is going to sound without having to listen to anything. If I'm jamming with someone new to bass and we are going from the V7 to the I chord and they don't know what to play I can tell him what to play knowing that it'll sound good without having to listen to anything.
It's also really really useful for problem solving, maybe you have a great chord progression but it doesn't sound quite right. You know that you have the right bass note, but the chord you are playing doesn't seem to fit at all. Using a little bit of music theory can tell you what chord will sound right there.
Also, without music theory, it's really hard to explain something musically why something sounds good or bad. Like when a chord progression that repeats but doesn't sound right. By listening to it you know it doesn't sound right but you may not know what to fix it or what the problem is. Using a bit of theory maybe you can see that there is a lack of a resolution to the root so that is why it sounds bad and then you can figure out a bass line or add another chord to try help it resolve.
I'm not at all making the point that you need music theory to make good sounding music. And I'm also not saying that you can't do any of this kind of stuff without music theory. What I am trying to say is that music theory can be a great tool and aid in understanding music and that learning it can be beneficial to anyone.

I liked this a lot better than your last one. The guitar riffs sound thrash/groove metal-ish to me. Definitely something I could headbang to. And you're right about it being less chaotic.
Don't give up composing, you could improve easily.

That's right!
Composed in GP, exported to a .mid, then imported into protools.
Hmm, the distorted guitars sound a lot better than what I've heard from midi instruments. Clean usually sound alright, but I've found distorted sounds terrible.
[editline]09:22AM[/editline]
It gave me an idea, instead of using the distorted guitar midi instrument to instead use a clean guitar and use a virtual amp to distort it. Just tried it out and it has pretty decent results. I can imagine a lot of people already do this.

That's exactly what my friend did.
Darn, all the ideas I come up with have already been done.
does anybody has the intro of rammstein's ich tu dir weh?
Well, I'm sure no one cares, but I worked a bit on my song some more. Haven't had much time. All the additions I had done since my last post I deleted because they started getting too outlandish and chaotic - I'm trying to keep this a tightly wound piece, instead of letting it proliferate like a bunch of rabbits on meth. All the additions in this version were done earlier today. :v:

The sun dyed black, the slaves toiling in perpetual night
The world a pitch black approach to society
Working in the mineshafts of disdain and misery
Dredging up the remnants of their free will
To be placed on the guillotines of their superiors
Where are our saviors?
They are gone
Gone like all of us
Gone like all of our
Individuality
They have integrated seamlessly
Became cogs in the machine
The machine of our own creation
The machine of our engineered demise

@Rad McCool
That song Spiral Galaxy is really awesome. Really catchy, like the vibe to it a lot. Kinda epic powermetalish What do you use to write these songs? Sounds awesome even in MIDI. Don't Stop Moving song is pretty cool, you really have some MIDI skills :P. Is that first instrument a synth bass? The boss tunes are pretty epic, really nice boss musics. Do you make music for computer games? or are you doing it just for fun? Prelude in B Major sounds awesome aswell. The v->c sounds pretty fun aswell.
I'll try getting some of mine up when I get on my other computer, most of my songs are for my band though so they don't sound that interesting in MIDI. I did compose some funny keygenmusic (you know the superfast arpegiated songs that are ussualy played by keygens? You should try composing some it's fun and simple).
Thanks alot for the input!
I use a program called TabIt for these songs. It's a tab-based midi program, very similar to GuitarPro but much more convenient in my opinion. I really like using midi since you don't have to think that much about mixing and sound quality. Instead you can focus all your energy on song writing/arranging. I like to push the midi engine and see what's possible. Midi has gotten a really bad reputation, but you can do some cool things with it. Like reverb, phaser, arpeggiato, etc.
I write all these songs for my own amusement mostly. Though, like you, I'm also work some with bands so I write material for that purpose aswell. The two boss songs I wrote as a favour for some guys who wanted to make an rpg. But to no surprise, the game never got finished. I actually wrote some 20-30 tracks for that game, but since I did it for fun, I didn't care too much. :v:
Yeah keygen/chiptunes! I'm actually experimenting some with that right now. I use a free tracker called MilkyTracker. It's really fun! I'd love to hear some of your work.

Holy fuck that song is brilliant
Do I even have to say how orgasmic and awesome that song is Rad? At this point, it just seems intuitive to assume anything you post is amazing.
In other news, I'm sure no one cares, but I've worked even more on my song! Sped up the breakdown a bit, I think it sounds much better now. Finally got to the chorus, then added a very WIP solo. I think I need to rework the first half of the solo.
Song is currently at 4:36, and I have three more lengthy verses to do, as well as two more repetitions of the chorus. This is going to be a long song.

This is the era of descent we’ve condemned ourselves

Can't you add the song melody? It's pretty hard to understand what's going on right now. :v:
Thanks btw!!

Anyways, in other news, got even more of my song done. It just breached the 7-minute mark, and I have a bit more to go still. Estimated run time when completed: 8.5 minutes.

New lyrics:
Our nerves have been numbed to the abuse from our creators
Our hearts have been numbed to the abuse from ourselves
Our minds have been numbed to the excuse of unity
Our bodies have been numbed to the excuse of mortality
We are numb!
We are numb!
We are numb to the situation we have made ourselves
Instead of plotting resistance, we seek obedience
Of all the things coursing through our wire-frame minds
The prominent desire is to appease our lords and masters
As the children all fall to their knees and pray
They pray not to the gods of yesterday
They all pray to their cybernetic deity
Their flesh-engine biologic hate machine
We are all blind, blind to our mechanic incarnation
So determined to further our evisceration
In denial of our self-induced limitations
So determined to push ourselves to
Extermination
(CHORUS; SECOND RUN)
We are trapped in an age
We are trapped in a cage
We are trapped in an era
An era of technologic evolution
An era of cult-like devotion
To a slave-driver machine
This is the era of torture we’ve made ourselves
This is the era of descent we’ve condemned ourselves
As to the song's melody, I assume you mean a vocal melody. I can't really give you one, because firstly, I haven't really ironed one out yet - vocal melodies aren't that important to me, especially in songs like this. When I practice the lyrics to judge the length of my riffs (see if they're too short or too long), the riffs tend to guide my melody, and I don't really pay conscious attention. Because of that, I can't really write it out, since I don't really know what it does - it just does it.
Plus I suck at writing vocal harmonies anyways. Especially for extreme vocals. :v:
I can point out where all the verses start, but that's about it (I have them marked in my TuxGuitar file). :v:
I can't make out anything of that song. To me it just sounds like a mishmash of random riffs played very quickly for what, 7 minutes? :S
That's why I wanted some sort of melody or steady drum patterns or whatever. What is it supposed to be anyway? Sounds a bit thrashy, but downtuned to B?
I can't make out anything of that song. To me it just sounds like a mishmash of random riffs played very quickly for what, 7 minutes? :S

Can't really say anything to that, other than I have a hard time imagining melodies, period.
While it is a lot of riffs, I don't think they sound random, but then, I'm probably the only one in the world who has the vocal melodies and styles in my head, projected onto the music.
I think that if it was performed with actual instruments and vocals, it wouldn't sound as bad as it probably sounds to a master's ears like yours. Then again, it is something I made, so it's very possible it would sound every bit as terrible as you probably think it is.
As to what it's supposed to be, the original aim was for it to be industrial-metal. But I guess it's more just my fantasy song that I wish I had in my collection: The love-child of a Meshuggah, Sybreed, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Scar Symmetry, A Losing Season, Opeth, Anterior, The Fading, Fractal Gates, Path of Golconda, and Blind Stare orgy.
Basically, the best elements of all my favorite bands combined into one orgasmic song. That's my fantasy song, and I suppose I'm trying to project it into this piece.
I don't really know what to say in its defense. You're probably right - it's probably a piece of random shit thrown together that a seven-year-old could do. Maybe I'm just telling myself it sounds better because I want it to sound better - because I want to have that fantasy orgasm song.
Who can really say?

I think that sounded pretty good. I don't think the string bends sounded too good around 50s second because it seems like you are bending up to the wrong notes. Are you bending into the chord tones or are you just bending up two semitones? But overall it is pretty diverse and all fits.
