How could DF possible now what resolution and framerate a game on a console that's only just been announced runs?
See edit. They used the WiiU port.

Don't be surprised if that's how it started.

I wouldn't worry about the battery life too much. Being mobile is the biggest feature for this console. Probably means its got a huge battery.
I was half expecting them to have a way to play mario kart while driving the real go karts.
Also the "Hey, come hand out with us!" "OK, let me just bring muh video gaemz!" :downs: was just cringy.

That is still irrelevant, we do not know how it works on this new console yet, although I think 720p30 would be more than fair enough if that is how it runs in portable mode, considering the size and the fact that it uses a battery as a power source.

I wouldn't be surprised if the resolution was lowered when not docked. The Dock migth give it extra processing power or something as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if the resolution was lowered when not docked. The Dock migth give it extra processing power or something as well.
I imagine the resolution of the tablet part is only around 720p or so, so in the event that it is, it'll probably still be native to that screen. It would only need a higher resolution for a TV.

As someone said, the unit may be downclocked when you use it handheld (to save battery and to not burn up) and may feature higher clocks when docked.
This should make 720p handheld and 1080p docked a possibility.

I could see it just underclocking when on battery, then letting it run at usual speeds when docked/connected to a charger.

It's not irrelevant. Just don't take it as a fact. It's a presumption based on their current gen and Nintendo's history in regard to processing power.

I hope it works like this but honestly I wouldn't be surprised it if weren't.
Yes, keep the little urchins in the mobile playpen, am I right?
*rolls eyes*
thats not what i'm saying.
i don't think much of anything nintendo marketed to children profited them. most of their profit comes from marketing to the nostalgia crowd, the people who WERE kids when they played nintendo games. also no "families". compare this announcement to the wiiu and wii announcements.
From Software?
Portable Dark Souls??
Armored Core??????????????????????
If I can play Dark Souls on the bus I am so fucking sold.
Battery life, resolution, FPS, Disc/Cart confusion, no D-pad on the removable controllers, and specs are on my mind.
It's a really interesting concept. I hope that it turns out well and we get some actually great stuff out of this.

Nah, man.
Metal Wolf Chaos 2.

Battery life of the controllers as well.
Is it gonna draw power from the screen when attached? How long are they gonna last when not connected to the screen? Does having them connected reduce battery life of the screen?
Pokemon S&M. Nintendo Switch. I'm noticing a pattern here.

Console generations are dead
I really hope Gamecube games somehow come into the equation for this. If I can play some of the games I used to (Wario World, Mario Sunshine, Double Dash etc.) on a handheld then that'll honestly sell me completely.
I'm curious about the handheld-like carts and if it has touchscreen tech.
If it has both and the controllers could snap onto the top and bottom sides so the screen is vertical, it could very well be treated like a 2DS.
It would be nice if it acts kinda like an at-home 2DS and a portable WiiU.
Pokemon S&M. Nintendo Switch. I'm noticing a pattern here.
Game Freak already put out a statement saying they have interest in the Switch but Sun and Moon are strictly 3DS.
Hmm...I don't know how to feel about this yet. I'm hype as fuck but I want more details before I commit. What kind of specs are we talking? Is it comparable to PS4/XB1? What about handheld performance? Battery life? Can the handheld be charged while on the go? Is it backwards compatible with Wii U? Are Wii U titles being ported to the NX?
Most importantly, how much will this run me on launch day?
Didn't the new Zelda have a slow down mode or something during combat? I don't think its lag.
A gimmick that WORKS.
I NEED IN MY LIFE.
The key differences here are that Nintendo aren't making a gimmick they're making a functionality. They've always had a problem distinguishing the two, and I'm so happy that this console is being treated as something with unique function rather than just some dumb gimmick.
Didn't the new Zelda have a slow down mode or something during combat? I don't think its lag.
It was still pretty choppy.
Though I imagine all the screen images are simulated so I'd take what you see in that trailer with a grain of salt.
i love how the game is lagging even in the pre-produced announcement video
This is all still stuff in development, and for how the games on the video look when undocked is impressive still. I would definitely take a small performance hit in exchange of portability.
yeah not convinced until they give the specs and a battery life

Is this Gen 9? Or current gen?
Most likely current gen, but only just. Nintendo will have to rely on their portable hybrid gimmick, kinda like how they rode the Wii's motion controls all the way to the bank. Which it's a neat idea for sure but I can't imagine the compromises a developer would have to make for the portable version of the games. Sony and Microsoft will leave Nintendo in the dust again when they bring out their new 4K doodads, and when that happens, the third parties will most likely leave Nintendo again.
But on the plus side, if Nintendo's merging their handheld and console teams, they should be able to provide enough content themselves to keep afloat.
I think Satoru Iwata's beliefs are still with Nintendo's business practice. Make the games and the experience fun, not have the most expensive hardware/best looking games. I am 100% dedicated to this idea and am probably going to pick this up.
