If youre remaking it, simultaneously port it to iphone? <3
And while he's at it, why not cure cancer and end famine all over the world?
If youre remaking it, simultaneously port it to iphone? <3
Porting isn't that easy. There are some programs to make apps for all environments (using html and such, i'm trying to figure it out atm), but the best way to "port" is remaking the app from scratch, in the associated programming language. He doesn't have to do so, it'll only delay both versions and Hexxe was making an iphone version anyway.
Completey comparable, good work.
Ok, explain the differences in developing for Android versus iOS to me then. [SUB]Hint: it's expensive to develop for iOS compared to Android.[/SUB]
Ok, explain the differences in developing for Android versus iOS to me then. [SUB]Hint: it's expensive to develop for iOS compared to Android.[/SUB]
No it isn't. The SDK and simulator are free to download. I'm happy to publish any applications produced through my company account, so publishing your app wouldn't cost you a penny.
And how many owns a computer with OSX?
You can use a Lion VM quite easily.
You can use a Lion VM quite easily.
Ain't exactly legal according to Apple's EULA (or the equivalent of it)
it would be really neat if the app could compress images opera mini style.
Porting to iOS would require an entire rewrite in Objective C. I despise Objective C.
If you're going to remake this, do it as a web app. The API uses HTTP and you're attempting to display HTML content. There's no actual reason to use Java anymore, since you're not scraping. Make something cross-platform instead, deploy it with PhoneGap and host a copy on facepun.ch for everything else. You could even get the webdev forum to help you with the design so it doesn't look shit.
And if you don't like phonegap, there is also http://www.rhomobile.com/ which works like a charm for me. I think it works the same as PhoneGap. (Not sure, no experience with Phonegap)
The problem with stuff like PhoneGap is that your UI will still feel slow. There's stuff like Appcelerator though, which is cross-platform and still feels fast.
I love how you guys are arguing about like, $20, tops. Such a small market, and you can already FP through the browser.
The problem with stuff like PhoneGap is that your UI will still feel slow. There's stuff like Appcelerator though, which is cross-platform and still feels fast.
What do you mean by a slow feeling UI?
That's actually a good point. I suppose writing a web app is much better. It would still not be as fast as a native app, though...
It'll be faster than a web app loaded remotely, but it's still slower than native UI in responding to a touch usually.
Porting to iOS would require an entire rewrite in Objective C. I despise Objective C.
only because you're too dumb and ignorant to look past the fact that the syntax is unfamiliar objective c is actually quite a cool language with interesting ideas
only because you're too dumb and ignorant to look past the fact that the syntax is unfamiliar objective c is actually quite a cool language with interesting ideas
It's always fun to state opinions as fact, isn't it?
It's always fun to state opinions as fact, isn't it?
have you ever written any objective c
have you ever written any objective c
Yes, I have.
Yes, I have.
besides hello world
besides hello world
Yes. I made a simple(ish) iPhone app. I absolutely despised it.
Yes. I made a simple(ish) iPhone app. I absolutely despised it.
lmao god forbid you ever learn any non c-style language it's funny how the only people who complain about objective c are the ones who've used it the least
lmao god forbid you ever learn any non c-style language it's funny how the only people who complain about objective c are the ones who've used it the least
I'm sorry for having an opinion, turb.
Enough, both of you.
I'm sorry for having an opinion, turb.
here's why I like objective c: it's a dynamically dispatched, garbage collected language with powerful introspection capabilities and runtime code patching that is backwards compatible with C and compiles to native code now what are your reasons for 'despising' it? (syntax isn't a valid reason)
sure is WAYWO in here write it in a cross-platform html-based language. nobody gives a fuck about the 0.1ms response time increase when it's a website they're browsing anyway.
i can't edit posts or rate, has this issue been already addressed?
