I Can Not Receive A Higher Education Because Of My Parents
I believe some of these "facts" are over-exaggerated. Not saying it can't be true, but I find it extremely hard to believe.
I wouldn't mind proving any facts that I have stated.
It is just high school bud, it isn't like you got other obligations. School only takes up a small part of the day, get a part time job or something. Hundreds of students do that, they manage to get money for school. Just suck it up and accept you can't get in to boarding school, or make an attempt to go. But sitting and crying about mummy and daddy being mean money whores isn't going to do anything.
Some people actually have the focus to become successful. I'm not going to just slip by, because of my parents bad choices.
Your a teen, all of them say that.
I worked 20 hour weeks as a cashier while taking college courses and attending high school for 7 hour days. I promise you it is doable, so don't make the argument that you can't. The only restriction may be age, but even that can be overcome.
Higher education is post-HS education. Not boarding schools and the like. And a fancy Harvard degree is nice, but if you are good at what you do, you can easily get just as much recognition by going to a decent uni in your state.
If only money is the only issue. You keep ignoring when I say this, but from what you describe, your father is suffering from some form of depression. Confront him about it and see what can be done. Some times we humans just need someone to talk to.
Still got shelter though.
Again, confront him about his issues.
Honestly, once a year is probably the same for a lot of kids.
Your on FP how? Sounds like an entertainment device to me.
I'd like to think your not spoiled, but you sure seem sarcastic in some of your other posts I looked at. That is a common trait of spoiled kids, but you could just chalk that up to being around spoiled kids and adopting that trait.
Exactly, I would work 12 hour shifts and do school at the same time. Then things got a bit easier for me when I worked 8 hour shifts normally 5-6 days a week, sometimes 7 days a week and still manage to do school. It is extremely doable, yes you feel tired and sometimes very irritable, but I never said it would be easy. Hard work takes you places, all this work will pay off in the future.

If you can't do school, work, and other things at once you're going to have one hell of a time in the real world. High schools hold your fucking hand and baby you all the way to you get out.
again you're blaming your parents. Wana know something cool? I asked my parents ages ago if they would help me with college, they said no. At that time we had a bit of money, but I wasn't mad. I understood why, guess what happened a year later. We lost everything do to some random and completely fucked up events and where homeless for a period of time. The only thing that kept us alive and above water was the money they saved by not helping me with my college loan bills. If I kept asking them and acted selfish we would have never made it.
Being short sighted and not looking in to the future can get you in trouble. If you think asking for 10 grand up front is a reasonable request you're out of your mind. Go earn some money for a change and see the reasons as to why people are very tight with their money.
If you guys want to challenge any fact that I have said in this thread, you can ask me to prove it to you.
I don't understand why you all are doing this, anyway.
Ew, you don't want to go there anyway. I know exactly what school you're talking about.
Honestly, going to a private high school is not a prerequisite for a good life, if you enter into the public system, and work your ass off, it wont make too much of a difference where you go
although your parents should have your education as a priority

You're in 10th grade and a teenager, life isn't going to pass you by just because you didn't go to a private highschool.
Contrary to what you think, you don't know everything that is best for you and your family.
10 grand is a lot of money, doesn't matter how much you make.
If I was in the same position I would pay 10 grand so my kids could get a better education.
Of course, just because a school is more expensive doesn't mean it's better. I'd consider some serious research before enrolling.
Is it necessary for you to actually go to a private school which would cost your parents $10,000 annually?
I am not sure about the education in US, but there has to be some-what decent public schools.

I think if some of the people are coming off insensitive, they are just trying to give you a full perspective of the situation while they know your posts may contain some bias.
I think MR-X is trying to get the point out that just because your parents don't cough up the money, doesn't mean there aren't other ways to get it. It's like what I said about my part-time job. You're 15-16, now's the time to take some initiative and prove to your parents that you're worth the investment. Or, screw your parents and do it for yourself.
Also, yes, America does have some pretty solid public education systems.

I went to nearly 5 high schools because of my military family background, they're nearly all the same. High school is what you make it, if you really really really want to get a bunch of college credits and a head start in life start doing AP classes and core college classes while in high school. Other then that high school is a utter joke, most of the time they baby you and hold your hand.
Do good at school, get top marks and you can get in some colleges for free and even with financial support. Sure they're not Harvard, but hey.

You're complaining about not going to a expensive school that won't matter that much in the long run. You are also complaining about your parents not going over the top to provide for you. You are also wording things to show in a more negative light, then giving new information that shows such things aren't as bad as you made them out to be. Might go check out that unpussification thread.

Would you care to explain?
Call Social Services or something this is fucking horrible.
Call Social Services or something this is fucking horrible.
"My parents aren't giving me money to go to an expensive school" "Get a job then"
OP:
No college worth your time actually gives a flying fuck about private high school versus non-private. The ONLY time a private school is worth it, is if your public school system is terrible where you live, which is very unlikely unless you live in downtown detroit.
I know it sucks to put all the work into being accepted into a private school just be shafted by your parents, but get over it. I've got a feeling your real motivation is that you just want to get out of your current household and do high school at a place away from home, because it sounds like you don't currently like your home life.
Just suck it up and do the last two years of High School like everyone else in a public school, and do a good job at it. Get a job while you are at it.
Once you turn 18 and fully graduate from high school, you dad will probably be more inclined to pay for a real higher education versus a private school that is actually going to be a waste of money. Why not spend that $10k a year convincing your family to improve the family life at home instead?
And if he doesn't, because you are 18, you can apply for scholorships and get loans to help pay for real higher education that actually counts.
This sounds like my parents and my SAT test. I have to sign up online and I have tried to get them to sign up the 5+ times the test was available in my area this year but they blow it off each time and said "Oh we'll have to sign up next time" and they don't want to pay the late-fee.
So now I have to wait till my fucking senior year to take my SAT and I WILL take it every opportunity I get. I am determined to study for this damn thing and show up my parents that they should have done it sooner.
I hope all goes well for you man. Its pretty impressive looking at those schools!
Would you care to explain?
As an example, you state plastic surgery, which implies your father pays for it, since you tell of no external revenue source. Then later you say your grandmother pays for it.

Good luck man, I need to do my SAT's this year as well

So, it would make it even worse. My mother takes money from my grandmother. That means that my father doesn't pay for that either. So, he has even more money for himself.
It doesn't sound as bad, I know.
They spend all of the money that they get on themselves, and they don't listen to me.
An exaggeration seeing as you obviously have the internet and a stable home, and I am sure you also have other nice things.
Your thread title itself is a gross exaggeration meant to paint the situation in a worse light and you in a better light.

The point being, your trying to hard to show your parents in a negative light. Its not like that's the only discrepancy, its just the first one I stated.
You're trying to get sympathy out of a situation that puts you in a better position that so many other kids in America. At this point, I bet you put yourself above the orphans.
Deal with it.
$10,000? No money? Go look elsewhere.
Don't waste your time at a private school unless your area public schools are really bad.
I went to a private school very similar to the ones you listed, and honestly, I don't feel that I am any better off than my peers who went to public schools in the same area. I have a nice coat and tie because of it, and my family is out $80,000 dollars, but I really don't feel that I gained THAT much of an advantage.

You haven't proved anything. Why can't you just understand that my parents give two shits?
Where are you getting this "boo hoo look at me my life sucks" crap? I asked what everyone thinks of this/what I should do.
Your sympathy isn't going to help me.

If you only wanted our opinions on what to do, you would have said you needed 10k and your parents couldn't help. But you didn't say that, now did you?
Multiple people, including myself, have said what you can do.
Shit dude, if you can get into Philips Exeter or Philips Andover (both schools near me, woop woop, also best in the East Coast) then fuck your parents, get a loan or somthing because no amount of money should stop you from receiving the amount of education you'll get there.

Well, what do you know? It's somebody that realizes how good these schools are.
The only thing that I can see me doing that would actually help is to just tell my father and mother what I think of them, and what opportunity that they are letting me pass up.
The least they can do is nothing, pretty much. Go for it.

I bet your dad is sat in anticipation of an apparent divorce and to have his son try and guilt trip him into parting with a load of money!
