NDAA Bill Discussion Thread V1: "4th Amendment, we'll miss you. <3"

That doesn't make it any less fucked up.
All human beings have the right to a fair trial, no matter what fucking country they're from.
Re-post from the thread in the news section, but this sums it all up here.
If this isn't the first thing that say Americans citizens and lawful resident aliens can't be detained I don't know what else it could mean.
That pretty much sums up who can be detained.
And that pretty much puts the writing up on the wall. This whole bill pertains to the military, there's nothing about states holding people for any reason or anything. This bill ONLY affects those who are deemed enemy combatants that are not US citizens or lawful aliens. Now a much broader subject of people can be detained by the military indefinitely, though US citizens/legal aliens do not fall under that category.
Human rights are universal.
Human rights are universal.
I'm not arguing that. I'm saying the 4th amendment isn't dead, at least from a citizen/legal alien stand point. Seeing as the constitution only applies to citizens/legal aliens, if you want that to change you would need to amend the constitution to cover all.
So many scary possibly bills being passed lately. What a world.
"First they came for..."
First they came for the terrorist,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a terrorist.
Then they came for the protesters,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a protester.
Then they came for the impoverished,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't poor.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Well. I just went and got "1984" for my mom this christmas. I thought it would be relevant reading material since chances are that this idiocy could spread to the actual civilized world. I'm scared for Americans, but i'm even more scared of the thought that this COULD just spread... I THINK the Scandinavian nations wouldn't do it, but Denmark in particular has been very flirtatious with American sensationalistic politics these past 8 years. I feel bad for my mom now. This is everything she feared.
Thanks America. For being fucking cattle to the corporations. For letting them sweep the rug that is your rights from under you with little ruckus. For a population so in love with personal freedom, you were pretty fucking determined to throw them away.
What's with all the shit posters lately? [sp]not implying you're a shit poser[/sp]
It's the same logic. Things like this tend to flood in with peaks.
So... You're the first 11'er and I didn't see you 'till now? Wonder when the last one will show up.

Little post I made on Reddit, feel free to vote it up.
Not quite happy with how it turned out but whatever.
Edit: Made a better version of it and submitted it to one of the default subs on Reddit.

God... I thought I was being trolled. I'm sick right now. We are so fucked it isn't funny.
Make it go away.
Protesting has been labeled "low level terrorism"
Enjoy the end of your freedoms, and that guy ranting about conspiracy theorists is an idiot.
Everyone that voted yes on this has committed treason to the United States of America.
Jon Stewart put it nicely when one of the senators said "we're facing an enemy that will do anything and everything possible to destroy our way of life" and he replied "so we're gonna destroy it before they can get their hands on it!"

If only 7 opposed so that means over 2 thirds agree with it so obamas' veto wouldn't have done jack shit.

It needs two thirds in both senate and the house.

Welp, it passed.

I'm trying to keep it black and white and fairly simple, so as to keep printing costs down.

Once it's complete, i'll upload the ODT somewhere so the word can be spread -- I just need some input on this draft.

If by '1984' you mean a codifying of existing extrajudicial practices, then yes, I suppose it is 1984. It is literally nothing like the level of horrid things that went on in that story, you're being an alarmist.

You have a few typos.
Why are people still blowing this out of proportion?

It's spelled 'definitely' and 'its' without the apostrophe.
Well, if SOPA passes I'm getting the fuck out of this country, because that'll be the final straw.

No, you won't.
You can not escape SOPA, boyo. Although you'd still be safer.
I'm not concerned. Martial law can be enacted at any time anyway, don't forget. During martial law times the military can detain anyone anyway.
