School project I'm working on. I just don't understand where all those stripes come from in the road. They form between where the separate pieces of the geometry come together. I've done the UVs very carefully, and the texture is seamless, yet no matter what I do, those lines are there. They also exist in the tiles of the sidewalk, but there they are along the edges of tiles, so they don't appear as much as they do on the road. Anyone any suggestions?
And no, attaching all the geometry together doesn't help either.

Is there a space or overlapping between them? If there is even a little space, it will do what it does.
[editline]4th December 2010[/editline]
No. I snapped them together. Both the texture, and the geometry, is seamless.

Are you 100% sure they're snapped right? Because it looks like it has a subpixel hole between them.
the texture should continue a bit out of the UVs if that makes sense

So that's what you were making, Looking good so far, I would love to see those fully textured.

Are they really that thin on the metal rails? I'd of thought they'd just snap.

I think the main piece is supposed to go in the middle.
the rails are way too small. looking back on it i can totally realize this. will be fixed whenever

Working on a sidewalk system for my city, I think I've found some good potential this time around. Easily interchangeable and swappable while still maintaining a good quality.
(Also the grate is a transparency map with a chamber underneath)
Awesome Ajacks. If you look a few posts up, I'm trying to do the same, but with entire road pieces. I just get strange lines in between when I render, and I don't know where they come from. :frown:
You seem to have it down proper, how do you do it?
I just realised something about my portfolio
there isn't one.
welp got seven weeks off, so i'm gonna do some modeling.
after counterstrike.
and masturbation.

my first model will be of my sennheisers
Ajacks, I haven't seen you post in ages, good to see you're still working on the city, Have you got a basic map for the city, I wanna see what it's gonna look like.
Hey guys, I'm looking for a photo with a HDRi so that I can composite, but I can't find any!

I saw that, what renderer are you using in that scene? I've had issues exactly like what you're experiencing in the past and I believe, now don't count on me for this because it's been a year since I was dealing with it, might have been fixed by assigning a single smoothing group to the entire surface of the road. Like I said, don't hold me to that but it's what crosses my mind when trying to think back. Also, thanks.

Yep it's been a while, damn school and girls. Broke up with my girlfriend of two years so I was back in the game for a while and that's pretty distracting. Schools letting out in a two weeks for me and so I'll be starting back up onto my projects in full force, treating it like a job, since it is ;)
I don't have a plan for the city as I really just plan on it being a set of tileable blocks, now once I have one product out with all the assets, then I can go back and start working on more interesting sections of a city.
I'll try that Ajacks. If it works, I shall revere you forever.

I'm using Vray, by the way. And it didn't work, sadly. :frown:

New here so not sure how much this will be appreciated:
Been messing with the new Blender 2.5 interface, testing some rendering effects
[IMG]http://www.adamncasey.co.uk/upload/image/2815/d/o/[/IMG]
Anybody else get used to the old blender interface, then get totally fucked over by the new one?

Also,
anyone knows how to carve a hole like this:
[img_thumb]http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/4292/carve1.png[/img_thumb]
without getting effect like this:
[img_thumb]http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/2528/carve2.png[/img_thumb]
(i mean missing faces if someone haven't noticed)
Just fill the holes, not so hard...
Do not use boolean. It's much more trouble than it's worth.

I agree.

I've spent hours cleaning up boolean meshes. They tend to have overlapping vertices and the like. He's obviously making it for source so it needs to be a clean mesh. It would be much easier to just use the bridge modifier.
