Quick question: I want to move on to something more advanced than Google Sketchup. I find the way you model in Sketchup very intuitive most of the time and would like to model in a similar method in a more advanced program. Is this: a) Possible in any current modelling programs? b) A retarded idea and I should just learn to model the standard way? b) i) If I should learn to model the standard way, 3DSMax/Maya is the way to go, right?
Actually, if you're making a weapon from scratch you can use different 1st and 3rd person models.
Read my post again.
Oops, I misread it.
Also, I realized we might be talking about different bevels.
Oops. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm mainly talking about the tiny tiny ones. I just felt they didn't add enough tot he silhouette to be worthwhile. It's looking great! Can't wait to see it textured.
I'm a complete beginner to 3D art, which I really want to get into. Can someone recommend me programs and/or tutorials? I'd really appreciate the help. PM me. Thanks!
Use blender. It's a great program and it's free.

You should add more than one light so you won't get the complete darkness shadow. Or preferably global illumination.
Well, I'm texturing this: But I need some help on how to save the UV Coordinates, not the .uvw file, the actual image for texturing, texporter doesn't work with 2010.
There's a render to template option under the tools dropdown on the Uvw unwrap window. Texporter is effectively useless now. But get TexTools it's a godsend. [editline]11:46AM[/editline] http://www.renderhjs.net/textools/
You should add more than one light so you won't get the complete darkness shadow. Or preferably global illumination.
its not done yet :P and i know how to make a good render

So I don't know if this is the place to ask this, but I'm trying to get into modelling and would like to know where you guys find reference images?
I personally just google images. But I've had some neat experience with http://www.the-blueprints.com/
Work on that displacement map.
Yeah, I just took a bump map from another scene and used it as displacement. And I have never really understood, what makes a good displacement map? Should black be no change, and pure white is 100% displaced, or should I keep with gray'ish colors? IF you have a good displacement map I can have a look at, I'd be happy.

A nice example.
