6870hd :v: [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] i didn't get it to render with the GPU even though my card support OpenCL and i downloaded the OpenCL drivers. So hopefully the support for amd cards will be released soon, or better OpenCL drivers to support Vray. :frown: Crysis runs an average of 10 fps more than before though. :3:
Yeah, I had to choose between either a new video card, or two new screens. I was working on 2 17" 1280x1024 screens, which were really old, and one of them flickered, and often messed up colours. But they were functional. I still decided to replace them, with two brand new, 22,5", 1980x1080 screens. No regrets. Oh, and my video card is a Nvidea GeForce 9800GTX.

My other two screens were different. One was VGA, the other DVI. I had to use an extension on the cable to get it to work right. I don't know anything about Radeon cards though, so I can't really offer advice. Good luck though. Dual monitors are a godsend.
blender isn't bad but no company uses it. learn max AND maya
Found this abomination posted on another forum: http://illusionmage.com/index3.htm Some idiot(or should I say a clever man?) is trying to sell blender. The trailer is laughable.
Ugh blender
All Autodesk software are free for higher education institutes as well.
Sitting on my school computer, rendering 750 frames with 15 other computers in renderfarm.Works like a charm! :)
Going to get cracking with 3DS Max rather than Cinema 4D (thought I'd go with the norm). Are there any good free tutorials on the web? Should I look at a tutorial series or just a few tutorials that are made to show you how to make a certain thing?
Why is it blue? Water is not blue. Water is blue only if it's outside where it can reflect blue sky or if it has shit in it. Normal water is not blue.
Not that it really matters but water is actually blue, it's just really subtle so you need a hell of a lot of it to notice.
Water is NOT blue. Just that blue light get deflected easily due to its short wave length. Very same reason why the sky is blue.
All Autodesk software are free for higher education institutes as well.
Most people here are either not in uni or dropouts, like me :v: [editline]16th December 2010[/editline]
Water is NOT blue. Somebody here that's good at 3DS Max (2011?) should make a few tutorials for us. It's impossible to find any good ones on the web :arghfist::saddowns:
I bet you're not looking hard enough. Internet is full of tutorials.
Especially when it comes to max. Creating tutorials, especially good ones is one helluva job. I once tried to do it and damn, it sure isn't that easy.
Early WIP, don't mind the lack of AA, I have it turned off to save rendering time while I preview it so far. Any C&C or suggestions? I don't quite know what I'm gonna do with the other part of the building yet.
It's made out of boxes, there's nothing much to CC really. And either the ceiling is very high or balcony is very small, the sense of scale is way off.
Yay, just got the go ahead from parents to order a 23" LED screen as my Christmas present :v: (the reason I'm happy is because my current TFT screen is 15" and it's a pain to model at this resolution)

Right now the proportions are way off, it looks more of a toy than a building.
I know the proportions are off, I'm not using a reference, I'm fixing the scale right now. It's an extremely early WIP, I plan on adding a lot more detail to it.

And i thought my 17 inch monitor was painful to work with. It's going to open up a whole new world for modeling. Would you happen to know of any good references I can use? I couldn't decide when I looked for one earlier, something that isn't too difficult to recreate but allows for good detail. EDIT: Some progress
I've been busy with finals and other stuff, so I haven't been able to make much progress on any of my models. But, I have been slowly working on this weapon for a mod: The basics of it are complete. I am working on rounding out the parts, now.

EDIT: Some progress [img_thumb]http://www.cubeupload.com/files/cfbe11building2.png[/img_thumb]
Well, any image will do, i usually just google the things i want to model. But now that johan mentioned the use of google street view for reference, i gotta try that.
Why did people disagree with me? Water IS blue
The color of water is a subject of both scientific study and popular misconception. While relatively small quantities of water are observed by humans to be colorless, pure water has a slight blue color that becomes a deeper blue as the thickness of the observed sample increases. The blue tint of water is an intrinsic property and is caused by selective absorption and scattering of white light. Impurities dissolved or suspended in water may give water different colored appearances.
It's a common misconception that it's just reflecting blue from the sky or something. Not meaning to derail the thread, but it's good to educate.
Textured the hair. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] Haha, texturing makes a HUGE difference. Before texture: (same model)
That's some whacky texturing. Also saggy boobs in the second one
The body model is changed I sent that part to mudbox. Hair is never something easy to texture. I normally like critiques, but I don't see your comment anywhere near constructive...
Here are some shots of my textured model.
