Anyone have any idea how to make realistic looking grass using vray? Im using maya hair at the moment, but i just cant get the settings right :( I used fur before, and got a convincing result, but vray can;t render it I've looked for some tutorials, but couldn't really find anything useful

Paint Effect in case of maya. Fur and hair is meant for what it says, fur and hair. Not grass.
Finished the upstairs for the most part, once I create a few more assets I'll be able to rapidly flesh out all the other buildings.
Holy shit Ajacks! :aaaaa:
I feel like a total spam artist because of all these pictures but I just finished the "sleeping" area. Upstairs complete, kitchen next. (Not that it seems like you guys are going to be overly critical, but yes I did fix the odd light bounce off the ceiling fan blades onto the ceiling.)
Please, keep spamming.
I enjoyed looking at them, so it's not really spam :buddy:
I posted these in the Minecraft thread: And I'll ask here too: Do any of you know of an application that can convert a Minecraft map (or parts of it) to a file 3Ds Max can read? I'd like to render a whole map in this quality.

Dun dun duun, found it. Read more about it here.
God dammit. Thanks for the effort. I read that thread as well some time ago. [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] Seems like he's an anti-windows kind of person though, so I don't know if he'll relase a version that I can use.
I feel like a total spam artist because of all these pictures
Post as much as you want I love your pictures.
So, being a little disappointed that unreal engine doesn't have a nice dynamic snow shader like crysis does i made my own. It also takes the normal maps into account and all that good shit, so rocks look really nice. :3: Also when you rotate the object, snow stays on top.
Too shiny, looks wet.
Too shiny, looks wet.
Is that sarcasm? Because it doesn't seem shiny at all to me.
Too shiny, looks wet.
It has barely any specularity.
Is that sarcasm? Because it doesn't seem shiny at all to me.
It does look pretty wet.
It does look pretty wet.
That's because it looks not like snow but like some liquid, like jizz for example. The texture is wrong
That's because it looks not like snow but like some liquid, like jizz for example. The texture is wrong
UDK doesn't come with a snow texture so it's just a solid color with normal maps.
I think it's because snow is actually very reflective, in a weird way, it should be more "bright" and not so "shiny". That was worded terribly but I don't know how else to describe it. Snow has quite unique reflective properties.
Example of a rock that looks wet:
and now to unwrap... fun fun fun
Unwrapping that would be a piece of cake since it's all squares
I'm modelling a body (focusing on the arms) without using any references. I also think I'll use it in a game, probably HL2/Source. Simple renders : Front : Back (Media tagged) : Yeah, I need to work a lot on the body to make it look better, but that's all I've got right now. Ah, the hands are ripped from sine HL2 model, but I'll try to make my own hand.
Why are you not using a reference?
you should really pick up a book on human anatomy and use refs
you should really pick up a book on human anatomy and use refs
Well, I'm going to add clothes to the body, so I decided I won't detail it so much.. Maybe I'll fix arms a little more..
Why are you not using a reference?
I wanted to make from scratch just using my memory. Just like drawing without references, but this time in 3D..
Not using references is stupid. Also if your body will be ugly, the clothes will turn out ugly too.
Ha, don't know, I'm just making things my own way. Also, I have already tried with tutorials and references, but this time I decided to make the way I think it is.
