you are thinking wrong get a reference. even professionals don't do much at all without a reference
Stop being stubborn and use a reference.
I can't even model without a reference, it's too hard to make something if you don't know what you're making.
INSPIRE ME! Because I sure as heck have no idea what to make. Just shout out some suggestions, and I'll be back at 10AM EST to collect them. Thanks.

A roller coaster. A whale? A sword. An airport. A biplane. "Central Perk" from Friends if you like interior modeling. I'd love you forever if you did that. ... .. Err. A hot dog stand (my god Ajacks you amaze me. I envy your skills) Musical Instruments? A race track? .. lame I know . wow I'm really bad at this. I wish I knew how to model. Hey has anyone ever tried to make a pokeball? Thought just jumped (iPhone wanted me to say humped?) to my mind. Iuno it seems pretty easy but could be fun.
Make a daft punk helmet.

[editline]2nd January 2011[/editline] Also, content: Transparacy:

(APNG, might not work on all browsers.)
I present to you, My very first thing to ever make in 3D's Max. Oh god what have i created. Sorry for bad lightning and, everything basically. Just starting.
I'm trying to make stuff for UDK, Now i'm new to modeling so have no idea what the heck i'm doing. So how do i make a hole in a wall? (For windows/doors ect.) Asking this because i heard using a boolean was bad if your intending on using it in video games.

Did someone say pokeball? Yeah I made that: Toy pokeball: [img_thumb]http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/7083/pkmnball.png[/img_thumb] "Realistic" pokeball: [img_thumb]http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/6564/pkmnball2.png[/img_thumb]
Second attempt at actually modeling something.
ngons, ngons everywhere
ngons, ngons everywhere
Erm, What?
Erm, What?
They're polygons with more than 4 vertices (quads), you have a lot of them on that house and it's usually a bad thing because almost nothing other than certain 3d modeling software can render them, and if something goes wrong with the modeling, it's way harder to fix. Usually it's a good idea to just model with tris (triangles, 3 vertices) and quads (4 vertices), eventually if your model goes into a game or something it's quite easy to turn quads into tris (since in the end the model is all tris as that's all that graphics cards can render) but it becomes quite stressful (and quite a mess) to turn anything with more than 4 vertices into tris.
Yeah i need to find a way to like merge everything into one object. Any idea's?
Oh so they're floaters? It's ok then
Though they seem to be causing some shading errors
Again, How can i merge all the (27 objects lol) together.
Again, How can i merge all the (27 objects lol) together.
Depends in what way you mean merge, and what programme you are using
Obviously he's using max
Obviously he's using max
Obvious for someone that know how it looks like. Well then i cant aid you further.
Edit poly -> Merge, lol.
Obvious for someone that know how it looks like. Well then i cant aid you further.
I never used xsi or blender or c4d or modo and yet I can most of the time tell from viewport shots
Any idea why this option is greyed out?
Any idea why this option is greyed out? [img_thumb]http://i52.tinypic.com/2iljwb5.png[/img_thumb]
No faces selected.
No faces selected.
Sorry for my noob-ish ness. But how do i select faces?
If you don't know how to select faces, how did you build that house?
If you don't know how to select faces, how did you build that house?
Pure man power my son.
Pure man power my son.
Manpower is useless in virtual envrionments.
