seeing shit like that with mental ray makes me want to stop using vray because i cant ever get materials like that in vray :frown:
In vray the materials are a lot better.
He posted it like 2 pages ago with and without the triangles. and was trying to resolve it then.
I say that it's strange for a building to just slope off like that instead of having some kind of indent on the roof with or without railing.
Does anyone know how I could go about getting the effect of sand falling down in an hourglass? I know it's probably a simple answer but I don't know where to start. The rest of the model is done, I just have no experience with particles whatsoever.
Could I get some help, pretty please?
I'm guessing with particles and collision? but I'm no expert.
I'm pretty sure you could use the water simulation methods but replace the material with something that looks like sand.
Made a large render with mockup cover.

Sorry for the watermark for commercial reason.
Do you design the stuff that is around the 3d render?
Cause its ugly as fuck.
The render was night though
Nope, those are designed by the magazine publisher :x
I'm making a park and here's a mterial test for a short stone wall.

Tried to make some shattering with just particles.
I wish i knew how ot use particles, oh well.
Here is a piece of grassy ground.

looks good, but nothing really shatters like that, try making an impact shatter, like if someone punched a bathroom tile pretty hard.
that would be kick ass

Well, it's just a proof of concept.
For cracks, you probably need to do finite element to get proper crack propagation.
never did get that book :saddowns:
fahhhhhk
that's like 2 floating in space now. I'll send you one more.
just got a shipment in, turns out the book is going international-

(for the record for everyone, I'm Ryan O'Connor, my name isn't on the cover, and the only mention of me in the book is the damn dedication because the publisher only wanted to pay one of us. I did most of the modeling for the scenes used in the book (minus the cover scene obviously), all available on the included CD. More books in the future, more funding, maybe I'll get a name)
Is that surrounding room a downloadable file? I saw it in a tutorial vid about vray earlier; or at least something very similar.
It's a place in Debrovnik, Croatia. The architect who made that model gave it to a competition for global illumination, it's become a standard testing scene. We got permission to use it in our book and no one believes the cover isn't a photo.
if anyone wants I can dig up the file and put it out there for ya to tinker with.
i envy you dai ._.
It's okay and that's great for you!
oh and my name's ryan but it's not o'conner but let's bone anyways

The reason theirs is colourful is to show off their real-time global illumination.

Are those artifacts on the cloth?(left top row) or just me xD
if anyone wants I can dig up the file and put it out there for ya to tinker with.
Yes please :)
I recently got Vray and now that I know the basics of 3ds Max I've been wanting to mess around with lighting and such.

I'm glad they're there. It puts the picture into perspective... It is in game. Amazing engine.

Man, the gold disappeared in this render >.>
Nothing extraordinary (or even close for that matter) and I know there is a bit of an error at the top but I thought I might post this. I felt the outcome was kind of cool.
[img_thumb]http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5079/desktopfin.png[/img_thumb]
Just messing around with cloners in C4D. Ignore the name, it was originally supposed to be a personal desktop.
You can add a black or white sphere at the contact point to cover up the weirdness in that region.
Fixed the gold:

Anyone knows the name of that tool to extract models from an unreal engine game?
Maya, I've always wondered what a lot of your wireframes look like, Can you post one?
Never seen a sphere and a capsule wireframe?
