[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/NnhKh.png[/img_thumb]
You know, that number told me nothing. My memory doesn't work that way. For all I knew, it was just another day.
There's a great stand-alone tool called UVLayout (which I've mentioned a couple of times in this thread), which is really effective unwrapping organic models. This because it hides an element after you've made seams, and when you're done cutting, you go into UV-view and start relaxing the elements. A tool/plugin I have yet to try out is XRayUnwrap, which is fully integrated in Max's unrwapping modifier, automatically unwraps your cut up elements, and has a lot of cool features.
Personally I use wings3D to UV all but the most simple of models. It takes less than 30 seconds to have a near perfect UV of anything other than a highly complex model.
My third attempt to make an hallway. I need help with doors and lightning. I use Blender

There's a seem on the wall. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Seam?
Going to do some of the blender.org blender tutorials tomorrow, I find C4D too basic and 3DS Max confusing because of the huge amount of tutorials that are mostly outdated. I think with the latest version of blender I could actually make something and stick at it rather than just get bored after a few days like I have done in the past.

I wish that 2.5 would be finalised quicker, since no plugins are being made as the API could change, and the last version I find unusable now!
Or make your own like me :)
I wouldn't unless the style is hand painted or something.
painting textures is fine for any style as long as you know what you're doing. Tons of artists paint textures.
I wouldn't unless the style is hand painted or something.
Using stock textures is dumb.
Using stock textures is dumb.
No...
The lighting towards the right is all wonky, but I'm not too fussed. I'm going to move onto something else now, I think. Learnt a lot through that.
No...
You only say that because you use stock textures. I use my scanner and a camera and make great textures.
You only say that because you use stock textures. I use my scanner and a camera and make great textures.
Not everyone has that equipment, and that doesn't mean they are dumb just because they use techniquies you don't use. I can't just walk outside with my camera and make a texture of something, unless I want it to be snow.
Did i say they were dumb? Read harder please. A scanner costs like 60 bucks and can make incredibly high resolution samples that you can then paste and blend to make a texture. What self respecting 3d artist would use stock shit? Obviously one who doesn't care about it at all if they don't want their work to be made from themself. It's okay if you're just rushing something and need place holder things or you are planning on selling it, but if you're making your very own beautiful metaphorical baby it should be made from your own work. Not to mention you can make textures for almost anything with noise, cloud, and blur filters.
I would laugh my ass off seeing someone walking around putting a scanner on rocks.
Who the fuck would do that? Either use the camera or bring a bag and bring some small flat stones, leaves, pieces of tree bark, small baggie of dirt, etc and throw them on the scanner. Instant beautiful textures, look exactly how you want.
Who the fuck would do that?
Your post implies that when read out of context.
I can't imagine how anybody would think it implies that the person would place the scanner on the desired object rather than put the object on the scanner unless they were ignorant of what a scanner is.
I can't imagine how anybody would think it implies that the person would place the scanner on the desired object rather than put the object on the scanner unless they were ignorant of what a scanner is.
I figured you would take a picture on a nice camera then blow it up rather than scan objects, what if you wanted a texture of something too large to pick up?
That's when you'd settle for the camera, and scan similar items and use the scanned images to add super-tiny details (if you wanted an uber high resolution texture)
why would you read the post out of context when the context is already clear in the post? I think it's important to build a library of photos of your own to use in texturing, but hand painting is just as powerful and more worthwhile in my opinion. Stock textures feel lazy to me as they aren't your own photos.
Listen guys, I'm sorry I thought something was funny, forgive me.
It is funny though.
jeepers i didnt call you out or anything
