Don't mean to be a white knight, but this discussion seems to be getting a little heated. Everyone has different opinions on art. It's all about interpretation. There's no way right or wrong way to do something and if someone wants to make an amazing 3D model and use stock textures that don't compromise the quality of the model, then that's fine. In the same way, someone can make a mediocre model and sexify it with an amazing texture. What matters in the end is that you have a nice piece of art that you can honestly say you contributed to.
Sorry but personally I rarely use stock textures because they almost never fit my needs.
Sorry but personally I rarely use stock textures because they almost never fit my needs.
well thats you, no need to project your views on everyone else. [editline]16th February 2011[/editline] and can i please get some texturing tutorials?
Why would you need a tutorial? 1. decide what you want texture to look like 2. use tools to make it.

I don't see any tiling in that stock texture. Oh i see some now at the bottom right.
and now to shrink the texture down to the actual size that will be used. I'm just wondering why you made the roof like that.. looks retarded. in the reference it's not using two plankes on the edges.
I'm not talking about low poly though
neither am I
neither am I
How does texturing take more work then?
You misread my post. I said it does the major work of your model. It's going to define most of the smaller details and help sell it. Saying texturing is icing on the cake isn't accurate at all, even for film.
normal maps :3:
Lookin' washed out there
bump is a weak on the sides but too strong on the roof.
Also get rid of the stupid trim on the roof it's not even supposed to be like that.
my newest game character for arma 2, NZDF soldier. I know he doesn't have an aug..

what is this shit
Bored, I decided to step into a new uncharted territory and practice high poly modelling.
Where is the high poly modeling? I'd like to see!
Huh? It's called hard edges. Unless you couldn't see the picture, which you should now.

Maor pipe. I'm off to bed now.

Looks proper to me, looks great. Also Saxor, you're sounding a bit hostile, not a good vibe for the thread.
Well I don't mind. Back to the church, I don't see any benefit to that odd trim, structurally or cosmentically it seems pointless. Personally, I think the only good church is a burned down one. Submit that and you'd win.
