Updated the file on Nexus and added an encounter with a small chance of getting my weapon: I shrunk the model by 15% with the update and had to reshape part of the grip to accommodate it. But, it looks less bulky now.
Meeting was rather boring, pretty muched focused on what bugs and crashes should be handled first and foremost. :/ I did put in your suggestion though, nV. Speaking of NVidia, I talked to the CEO walking by on the sidewalk today. Meeting for a party tomorrow
Too late, but they need to fix Illustrator file support! :argh:
Finished the Dodge Charger model I showed earlier, added a lot of underside detail, now it's time for the UV mapping. It weighs in at 41,617 tris. Guess I could toss in the car I never finished back in my Nascar Racing Season 2003 days
I fixed the texture stretching and found a new way to make grass.. The new grass increased the total rendering time with ~1 hour.
Thats great, How did you do the grass? I also like the use of specular mapping. [editline]05:04PM[/editline]
I might start trying to learn maya, recent attempts at modelling have shown me that sometimes even basic stuff can be really painstaking in 3dsmax, I remember when I did work experience they only had XSI and I easily picked that up in a week, and was able to model a pretty good guitar (I'll post the video if I find it) and Maya is something I've always wanted to try. That said I probably won't bother because I find 3dsmax quite easy to navigate, and it's really not so bad once you know how to use it. meh.
Just to say about maya, As good as maya is, it has limitations. But I started off on Max then moved to maya and went back to max, Maya after a while just started to piss me off, I was to used to Max but some times after using maya onto another program (If you change back) You will crave maya's Texture Editor and rending options.

this is the 3d digital art thread. not the photography thread. :colbert:
Thats great, How did you do the grass? I also like the use of specular mapping.
Thanks. For the grass I used VrayFur, which took forever to do. But pretty much worth it I'd say.
but honestly what the fuck. how does it look so fucking real. mind fuck. [editline]04:49AM[/editline] this thread has no activity, and yet i still get my automerge broken. thanks bro.
Yeah, This thread doesn't really have much activity but you gotta admit, 3D Art takes time... Especially rendering, Fuck Sometimes I wish we could get GPU & CPU Rendering, I mean with cards other than $4000 quaddro FX cards.
Okay what the hell, it's been 10 hours since I started the render last night, and 3dsmax says it's gonna take 5 or 6 more hours. I did a render the other day with only slightly lower settings and it was done in an hour and a half. Maybe I should go where my dad works (tv studio) they have like 10 computers connected to each work computer so that you can render shit fast. [editline]10:37AM[/editline] If Starcraft 2 comes in the post I'll cancel the render and do a quicker one.
What the hell are you rendering then?
just a bicycle wheel in Vray. I think it's around 100k polys though.
it'd probably faster and overall smarter to let a loooooong render finish from halfway through than to settle for a quicker render setup that takes LESS than the current remaining time. :colbert:
well the long one had about 6 hours left, this quick one should be done in one and a half. And the actualy difference in quality isn't that noticeable.
well the long one had about 6 hours left, this quick one should be done in one and a half.
this is the 3d digital art thread. not the photography thread. :colbert:
Thanks, lol.
Thanks, lol. Even the Quadro cards only improve view-port performance.
Really? Damn. I just want to boost my rendering times, WITHOUT a render farm.
I couldn't get Dustdevil to work. I don't know where to put the folder. Halp plx? Anyway I tried gun modeling and decided to make a low-poly AK-47. Progress pic:
:aaaaa: You should upload the image somewhere.
~500mb Sure! :v:
The AK's model is nearing completion! just have to fix a few stuff and make textures. turned out pretty awesome actually :fuckyou:
~500mb Sure! :v:
Agh, just mildly compress it with .jpg (I know everyone fucking hates jpg but whatever.)

I just love to look at it up close. :allears: [editline]09:50PM[/editline] Oh, and right click -> view image.
nVidea, what are the texture sizes/what is the texture size?
nVidea, what are the texture sizes/what is the texture size?
It has about 6 different textures each at least 2000x2000 pix and they tile a couple of times.

How may polys is the newstand? Hey hayate, could you post an under-side view of one of your off roaders?
