What do you mean by: "doesn't actually model"?
Probably meaning that his stuff looks so good that there is no way it's a model.
Probably meaning that his stuff looks so good that there is no way it's a model.
Yeah that's what I meant. I can't always explain things properly, because English isn't my main language. Glad someone understood :v:
Am I the only one who thinks it's very easy to tell between a model and a real photo?
Am I the only one who thinks it's very easy to tell between a model and a real photo?
Generally, yes, but there are instances where it's very hard. Ajacks models and renders are incredibly well done and sometimes appear to be real at first glance, but you can tell they're models. If it was carefully edited into a real photo and you weren't looking for it, you may never realise it's a model.
Am I the only one who thinks it's very easy to tell between a model and a real photo?
It gets easier the more you do this kind of stuff.
It gets easier the more you do this kind of stuff.
It sure does, am I the only one who watches a movie like Avatar and cant shut up to their significant other about the modeling? lol...sometimes it really does ruin the immersion in films when all I care about is the technology behind it, same with videogames...
That's why I buy popcorn because I stop talking and she can enjoy the movie :v:
Even on my income I can't fucking afford popcorn from those greedy movie theater bastards...
I'll ask again, what do people use to model? I guess 3DS Max, and I would normally follow but I hate it, and really like Cinema 4D. But most tutorials are outdated for it and I can't learn much about it.

Whenever I play games I'll slow down and stop and walk around something because I'm trying to figure out how it was done :v: First model, don't judge me bro [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4636203/barrelmodel.jpg[/img_thumb]
First model, don't judge me bro [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4636203/barrelmodel.jpg[/img_thumb]
I read the book you got the tutorial for that model from, and it wasn't very good in my opinion. It jumps from making basic models to a more complex scene with you creating textures left and right, as well as advanced character modeling while barely explaining a thing. I wouldn't recommend you go much further into that book without really taking your time to look at other tutorials.
First model, don't judge me bro [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4636203/barrelmodel.jpg[/img_thumb]
If we don't judge you, you'll never get any better because there's no feedback.
btw the book comes with the materials to use on the models. I recommend learning the theory and techniques behind it and create your own work.
FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I was modelling a Deagle in Blender, like you guys said. I used a small cube to make the outsides, which I had a quick look at and thought looked pretty damn awesome. I then proceeded to fill the insides with a larger cube, which also made it fatter. I raged, and closed Blender. I might try again later.

Finished my gun render, taught myself to do it in C4D. (Lined it with B-Splines and just made it the child of an Extrude-NURBS). Any C4D users know how I can cut a hole and place in the trigger? Also how to make it thicker?
Ripped model from SC2, Textures also riped, animation was me. I'm proud of it :-D

You shouldn't just trace the outline and bulk it out. Try these tutorials: http://halflife2.filefront.com/files/Half-Life_2/Tutorials_and_Guides/VTMs;4385 You don't really need to follow them but the first and second video showthe basics of creating complex shizzle like weapons.
I just realized how optimized Starcraft II is, The game can have up to 200k poly's on screen at any given time and still run at 50fps while other games run at 50k polys and lag like shit. Incredible work bliz

That's a reasonable way to work in C4D, and he is obviously new to it so learning how to use the basic tools in c4d can be really useful for him. To answer your questions Neo: you did something wrong when you extruded your spline, check the setting and make sure you have the right amount on the right direction. To make a hole in the gun, you could use the Bole thingy, but it will create a lot of weird poly's, but its the best thing to use at your experience.

My soon to be task chair! Herman Miller provided the graciously provided the mesh, I made the materials and rendered it.
WIP scene: Closeup of the flower: Don't mind the rendering times. I tried to make the volumetric lights with vray fog, but it really kills the render times. That combined with the DoF is a recipe for disaster. It's all foxed now though. The textures on the leaves and the flower are all painted by hand and I'd really appreciate feedback on them. I also know about the displacement problems on the bricks, but I still haven't figured out a way to fix them. Haven't really tried yet, though.
Finished and uploaded my PPK12 Gauss Pistol. The great news is, the guys from Fallout: Wanderer Edition contacted me after I uploaded this. They are asking permission to use my classic models in their mod instead of their current ones. I am going to give them permission after I touch-up the texture of the Gauss Rifle. It is not dirty enough.
Nice flower bro. also x-quake's character is funny
