almost every part of it is a completely different object. you have the door, the main body, the coin part, then the words.

Something is wrong with the shading! try changing your render or light settings. or something.

Class color is quite bad. There needs to be more blue/red team colors on the helmet.
kinda agree with you there, valve has concentrated a lot on class colours which is a huge part of the gameplay
The glasses could do with team coloured tints I think.
I appreciate your input, but I have to disagree.
Here's the Sniper's bucket hat, which like mine, uses neutral colors with a just a tiny dash of team colors.

some hats don't use team colors at all.

as for the glasses, they already have the team specific yellow/orange
What is this, how does one even?

texture seam?
hm cant be that since the texture is plain black almost. Let me double check that.
oh fuck me, for some reason the texture was fucked. Thanks Jens
offtopic: your avatar is fucking amazing jens, i love that movie

i tried changing the render setup and the lights, neither worked
it's probably phong's fault
i don't know what you need to do in 3dsmax
Please note the back body isnt finished and the texture is something i just slapped on

edit: also woa, forgot to turn of one of the lights, so dont mind the shadows
Since I didn't get an answer last time:
How do you model text?
there's a text tool in 3ds Max, in the "shapes" section
[editline]10:44PM[/editline]
probably in Maya as well

No one can help you if you don't tell us what program you are using.
In max:
1 - Under shapes, choose "text".
2 - Choose font, size, etc... (Can be changed afterwards as well)
3 - Go to modifiers, choose bevel.
4 - Extrude it as much as you want.

Text tool in maya is an ass to work with.
:3 first model without following a tutorial. hows it look guys?

Very nice! especially for your first model.
The lighting could use some work, and there's a shading error when viewed from the side on the thingy that sticks out.
But overall, a pretty well made model.
Edit: i ment smoothing, not shadig :v:
Smoothing error, not shading

thanks and yeah i see it
Okay many thanks for the help guys!
Hey all, seen some top notch work in this thread, I know I don't post much, but you guys have some seriously awesome talent!

I've been working more on my Doctor Who title sequence. Been experimenting with After Effects more and learned that it's so much easier to get a good lightning effect going rather than in Maya.
I'm also probably going to completely redo the titles in After Effects, as I can't get the shatter effect working in Maya because like someone mentioned above me, Maya's text tool is an ass to work with.
I've added some smoke using a neat effect called Trapcode Particular and added some glow to the Time Vortex using Starglow.
The box is ok but needs a little more detail, I think what would make a big help is to make the vortex more smoke and plasma like, atm it looks essentially like a weirdly shaped cylinder.
I agree with you, the cylinder is a bit bland still. Unfortunately this is the first time I've used Maya particles and effects so I'm still learning. If anyone has any tips on how to make the cylinder into perhaps a giant maya fluid system, I'd be able to improve it.
