One more guideline. If you end up following a tutorial on how to make a specific thing, like how to model a vase for example -- don't just learn how to make that object, learn what the tools that were used to make that object do.
Now I'm no spokesperson for experts, I'm still learning the fundamentals myself, but I know for a fact that what I said above must be followed if you plan on gaining anything from that tutorial.

I dunno but isn't that obvious? You see how a tool is used and usually you remember it and can later use it for other stuff. I learned how to model by watching car modeling tut. Funny thing is that I never made a car...

Not entirely. Some tutorials don't even go into explanations as to what something does. I would know, when I was a complete beginner trying to start out with random video tutorials I had no idea how anything the guy did could be applied elsewhere, I just knew how to make that one thing he taught me to do.
If you need some help, i know a lot about cinema 4d.

I know about spinning, splines and stuff like that from following tutorials.
streamin' again, and this time it's not just gutting the place. Working on an animation :buddy:
on your stream what modifier were you using for revealing or expanding that building?
What's your guys opinion on Cineversity? I'm taking a look at Cinema 4D.
Watching the stream, fuck my ears.

it's "scalpel" by the company Cebas. It's a plugin we had to buy for a previous project. Useful and runs very fast for what it does :buddy:
Ah sweet, thanks... Ill see if i can get that and mess around with it (:
Dai! You went offline again!
Been a while since I've touched Blender, due to lack of inspiration. Recently I ended up discovering Blenderguru whose tutorials showed me the wonders of the mirror and array modifiers, among other things. Really handy for the repetitive stuff, putting some of these techniques to use I created my first decent architectural model.

Hmm, started a new project, some Scrap metal house getting destroyed by a hurricane/tornado anything like that...
WIP and this is the first video rendering of the project, so I'll call it as a beta test.

Used 3ds Max 2011 + Vray (only AO enabled) + Reactor.
I'm going to apply materials to it and some good lighting that fits, soon I'll render it all again with everything complete..
ps. You'll probably think the wind is a bit too destructive, but anyways, I wasn't planning doing it so realistic.
Pretty awesome!
One thing that pisses me off when watching those videos of 3d physics n' shiz there are always some stupid kids who are all like"WOMG WHERE DID U GET DIS GAEM? ANSWER PL0Xxx"

How do I go about attaching the top bars so they don't look like they are just there? I know it looks horrible as it is right now, too clean and what not, I'm improvising the entire thing as I go along, going for homemade rocket sled.
huge bolts that goes straight through?
Dunno, Kybalt, but you definitely need more definition between the straps and the tanks, don't say "blah blah blah difference when textured crap crap crap" 'cos I've thought that before and it looked pretty damn crap, I even got asked why the texture changed in the middle of the model.
I think it was a belt, I don't remember, though.
Try adding some rivets, bolts and things like that, spruce it up a little.
And use NURBS to make the crossbars(?) at the top look welded on.

I was going to make a towel, but it wasn't going right so I removed that.

The tap is bad, I agree.

The base that is left doesn't/moves too little. I would expect it to shake a lot after such wind passes.
Other than that looks quite awesome.
Also needs more dust lol

Hmmm, yeah, good idea, i think i'm going to use bones or anything to make it shake as the wind passes..
And in the final video i'll add some dust, particles, objects, etc.. Also improve the scene with some montains in the background..
Hey, I use After Effects alot to edit video and was wandering what the best program to use would be for 3D implementation? Do certain programs have better connectivity with AE than others? What do you guys use?
Trash Can for my friends map/mod that he'll probably never finish.

it's supposed to look odd, its a futuristic style we're going for.

Alright I made the steel straps look more defined. I think. Rivets and bolts, noted. How can I do the NURBS thing? I've never used them before.

Looks kinda blocky and boring.
huge bolts that goes straight through?
Tried it before, it looked crap cuz there was no hole for the bolt or anything.

chamfer the edges a bit or something. It looks like you would cut yourself while throwing something out.
It isn't too easy to soften things up in C4D, though.

If the blue light is inside the can, why can you see it on the outside?
If the blue light is inside the can, why can you see it on the outside?
I only just realised that, i'll fix it now.
[editline]05:45PM[/editline]
I'll fix up the odd error when I get back, I'm going out now though.

Hey does anyone here have experience exporting from Max to Maya? I can't get FBX to work properly. When I import the mesh into maya it doesn't even show up.
