Hey does anyone here have experience exporting from Max to Maya? I can't get FBX to work properly. When I import the mesh into maya it doesn't even show up.
tried exporting it to another format that both programs to read? like wavefront. Not sure if it will work. not so familiar with file formats.
tried exporting it to another format that both programs to read? like wavefront. Not sure if it will work. not so familiar with file formats.
I got it to work now, once I downloaded the Maya Bonus pack and got the .3ds importer, I can't figure out how I'd go about getting my models textured in Maya...Stupid foreign program, I'm used to knowing the ins and outs.
Hey does anyone here have experience exporting from Max to Maya? I can't get FBX to work properly. When I import the mesh into maya it doesn't even show up.
I heard you fixed it, but still. When I imported into maya, stuff were so big it seemed like mesh didn't appear. I used max2009 to maya2011 fbx. Had to zoom out to see.
Yeah, there's a big difference between the scales that both programs use, max works in feet or something and maya works in centimeters or something like that, if you know some about maya just open the outliner and find it in there and scale it down, that or change the scale units in maya to match max.

I always model to US scale and so I just set the measurement settings in max and Maya and everything's fine. Now rendering, texturing and navigating in Maya are just beyond me right now, pain in the ass and I don't think I'll mess with it anymore right now.
How do I make my textures look seamless?

And moreto, why are you not on steam?
I didn't notice but why are you using maya? And moreto, why are you not on steam?
Having the ability to release a product across the gamut of programs would be a huge asset to me.
And moreto, why are you not on steam?
Because it doesn't autostart on ubuntu and I'm playing more eve and running both steam and eve at the same time makes my computer groan some so I just run one, which is eve.
made daijitsu's avatar in 3d (most of it) because he's cool and making pyong seemed fun enough to try. needs a more cartoony render, the colors are too washed out, especially the red.
quick note, the #RGB code for the red I use is #D41000, haha. He PM'd me this the other day, I still think it's cool that he came to me with this before even posting on the forum. :buddy:
Here is the auto-fire mod for the Gauss Pistol variant I am working on: Oh, and I was playing around with the final gather map visualization. Here is a visualization of 10,000 final gather points as projected from a HDRI sphere around the object. nj x-quake, but it looks crazy glossy imo
nj x-quake, but it looks crazy glossy imo
It is too glossy. But, I needed to see the how drastic I could make the specular map. I still haven't gotten the hang of HDRI reflections.
So I kinda smoothed the hand grip and got a few bumps to work and left it black and white. And I think I'm gonna leave it like this. But still please don't ignore me and comment!
nice work, seems a bit flat, and the middle doesnt have much detail on it
I see some errors on the pistol grip and the forehand(?) grip.

[img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/AKMS_and_AK-47_DD-ST-85-01270.jpg[/img_thumb] You're missing detail on the magazine release, that pin or whatever, though this is probably a texture thing, so nevermind. I'm pretty sure that the fire mode selector is on the other side, but the reference seems to disagree? Other then that, it's good, just get some nice textures and it will be perfect. [editline]02:13PM[/editline]
Ky: im making a usb dongle Ky: in 3ds max blarkjis: really? blarkjis: good luck with that blarkjis: animations hard
Will update with renders of my dongle. Still rendering it.

Why are they in a quality street tin?
i dunno. Final render, probably. No longer in "a quality street tin". [editline]03:21PM[/editline] Final render this time.
Just got 3DS Max for free with the education program, all I needed was my .ac.uk email. :) What would you guys reccomend doing as a first project?
Quick and random Real Flow simulation: Rotating sphere with field gravity, fluid resulting in an accretion disk.

Not hard to figure out how to do that. (hint= right click on the cilinder, turn it into an editable mesh then right click on it again and click edge/vertex/polygon/face to edit the shape!) Or you can view some tutorials for HDRI rendering.

Tried some hdr in C4D. What do you think?
Tried some hdr in C4D. What do you think?
That's nice. You're the 3rd person I know to use C4D in this thread, including me. Welcome to the club. [editline]12:02AM[/editline] Oh, and if you're going for a wooden table there, I think you should drop the reflection a lot or completely, it doesn't look very realistic.
