why does everyone all have their lights on? fix that.
They enjoy wasting electricity?
Urg, that requires re-texturing. Maybe later yea.

slap a thin block over their window, maybe no one will notice
My very first render. :D Already learnt so much, and nowhere near the standard of any of your stuff, but I'm proud of it:

The bullet itself looks good, but the shell is too thick. They are very thin in real life.
Testing out some hair physics.

It's a transparent APNG.

A bit too thin also. Hair is usually pretty stiff and a bit thicker than you might think. And not quite so dense.
Comon guys, we need more to participate in the old and forgotten art contest.

the van has headlights on, yet the texture doesnt show that.

More what, what contest?

I thought it was an old and forgotten art contest
that's why it should be restickied but gayry is anal about stickies.
:argh: GAYRYYY

But i'm not going to enter, i'm too bad

Vray is awesome.
it was daijitsu who decided to unsticky it.
Moreto, how do I move a prop to the center of the world in maya?
To the center of the grid so to say.
Because when I freeze transforms, it says it's 0 0 0 but in reality it's not, especially if I export as obj and import in some other app, the pivot is in the 000 but model is off.

he posted that garry doesn't like stickies when I asked him.

Of course you go offline on steam.
Well, select the object, hold X or click the button that makes it snap to the grid then grab the move tool from the center and move it to the center point on the grid.
Oh, also, to the person who was doing that city scene, the windows need to have a bit of an indent, like Ajack's buildings.

Why would they need an indent if they are on a flat wall?
Even if the wall was bent, not all architecture styles have bent windows.
Just saying.

you misunderstood. He meant he should push the windows inward to give more depth. buildings arent flat.

Oh THAT kind of indents, yeah he's right then, sorry.
Getting V-Ray to render properly in Maya is a pain in the arse. It refuses to render any of the lights, even when I make them V-Ray lights.
Well, my idea is to make the tube using VrayEnvironmentFog. First make the tube so it has thickness and endcaps. Then add the environmentfog to the scene and as the gizmo use the tube you made. Then make the tube so it won't show in the render, use a noise map with turbulence for the thickness (and use world xyz, not object xyz) and for the emission and color use a regular noise map with the desired colors (blue/purple, red/yellow). Then play around with the settings to give it the desired effect.
This is what I made in Max using that method:

In that pic the only changed parameter in the fog is the distance. It is also important to use different noise maps for emissive/color map and density map or else only the other color of the tube.
With more tweaking the effect can be made better.
Still, this is based on Max and I have no idea if this is possible in Maya, but hopefully it'll give at least some inspiration. :)
[editline]12:08AM[/editline]
Actually, I just watched the intro and the tunnel looks different, but that can be fixed by using a different density map.
Been working on this recently. I can't even get the fog to show in the Render, everything is black apart from the lights and I can't find the thickness attribute for Vrayenvironment fog.

I could yea, though the scene is only going to be on screen for a couple of seconds. I might play around with it if it's worth it.

Nice (cheat) idea, will try it out!

Yea you're right.
Hey everyone!
Been lurking in this thread for quite a while, and now I've finally gotten accepted at 3dCollege Denmark, I'm sure I'll post in here quite often to get some critique. The first week has been about learning max and just doing stuff we see in our everyday life, and doing tutorials. Mainly tutorials about modelling.
Since I'm not exactly good I'll just stick to uploading what I'm currently working on.

Really appreciate criticism, and suggestions on how to make a proper material as that is still way above my skill level. Oh, and currently we only use Scanline render. Later on we'll get to mental ray.
what the fuck man
I did a tape dispenser as a tutorial for the 3d class I teach.
wait, doggy, you teach too?
:hf:

It's a bit different for me though because It's a Work Based Learning program where I'm teaching in my own high school. Kinda weird when you're teaching one of your best friends.
Ironically his mom gave me my first copy of 3ds max way back when in middle school. :buddy:
Before we could get into the 3D lab I was trying to teach them some basic topology crap through drawing. That night I made a simple tape dispenser to show them how it would look in 3d. It was cool to see that most of their topology was similar to mine.
lemme dig up one of my tutorials that always makes me warm and fuzzy when people get it right...
[editline]12:47AM[/editline]
if I can figure out where all the damn backups are... I just moved my office, everything's in boxes :argh:
[editline]12:51AM[/editline]
bah, whatever. It's an IPod Nano. Show it to the first-semester class and they'll do some pretty nice stuff.
also one or two will give you a box with a cylinder stuck to the front.
