Hell yes, my favourite rifle made in porcelain.
What more can I ask for.
It does look a bit flat and blocky despite all the useless edgeloops in my opinion...
I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I'm pretty sure the gun is meant to look more 'industrial' rather than smooth, by the shape of it, I think it's definition matches it quite well.
That doesn't mean the edges have to cut you because they're perfect 90 degree angles. Nothing in real life is that sharp.
[editline]10:29AM[/editline]
maybe it's not supposed to be smooth eh
That's not very helpful to anyone. Sub-d doesn't necessarily mean it will be organically smooth. Hardsurface modeling is done with sub-d all the time.
I needed some entertainment. And, since this turned out to be such a fun and humorous way to pass my time, I did this:
[img_thumb]http://lh3.ggpht.com/__9-i1bAPj4c/TDWtwaFoFBI/AAAAAAAACjY/eByx0HoLj9I/Cubeecraft_carl_render.png[/img_thumb]
It is Cubeecraft's Carl. I have a few crafts hanging above my desk, why not have some on my desktop? I will model/texture some more before making a background render of them all. Ones that use the same format as Carl will be as simple as changing the texture file. I am merely using the files you download from Cubeecraft as the textures and UVing the boxes to fit.
Make it a Minecraft skin.

Example of a much better looking model, mainly because it IS subd'd.
I can't tell you the last time I saw a highpoly gun that has no subdivision.

is that an Accuracy International AW?
is that an Accuracy International AW?
Yeah
I've been drifting in and out of consciousness today. I am super tired, but can't sleep.

Also, give me an example of the Minecraft thing and I might do it.

To be honest I actually prefer nVidia's. For one there's no poly error on the scope aswell as less SG Errors.

What are you talking about? I see no smoothing errors and what poly error?
[editline]10:53AM[/editline]
Tell me where they are ps

I don't know anymore, might just be imagining things but i've circled the areas that don't look quite right to me.

Though, gun-wise, I much prefer this one over nVidia's.
Those aren't smoothing errors
[editline]11:07AM[/editline]
That's because the detail is very small and it's a small image

They are coming along nicely. Gonna finish up the ATHF characters before moving on to HL2 stuff. Might try to nap first, though.

Maybe you were giving CC before, but now you're coming across as a dick.
Maybe you were giving CC before, but now you're coming across as a dick.
What did I say that makes me come across as a dick? I'm trying to help the guy, and pointing him towards a model that is done better is never a bad thing.
I don't get why the moment I try to give some help everyone's rushing to shoot it down.
It's cool.
If anything I would like to see a render of nVidia's rifle rather than just a viewport screeny.
Oh. I see where you said you were using UT 2k4's editor, Doggy. I have more experience with that than I do the new one. Again, I haven't used it in a while, though.
If you are using Maya, there is a nice Exporter you can find that will do most of the work for you. Then it is just a matter of loading it in the editor. If you aren't, then I cannot be of much help. Plus, I would have to install it again to be certain.
Also, on the subject of the rifles:
The Sub-D model surely looks more realistic and detailed. But, I like NVidia's model for the more simplistic view. I am not sure which I like better, they have different styles.
Does anyone know of any good modeling programs for a beginner?
I was thinking about learning how to model.

I'm not having exporter problems. I've got a bunch of problems with spec maps and opacity maps.

I wouldn't post my own models as a reference for how to make something better. At least I wouldn't do that here seeing as everyone jumps to calling someone out.
I'm using Maya 2009 and Valve smd/dmx importers/exporters plugin, but I can't load a dmx animation file (pyro taunt03.dmx), it says :
// Error: vsDmxIO: Nothing was converted when trying to import //
// Error: Error reading file. //
Any ideas ? I couldn't find any solution using google, so I'm asking here ( I don't want to make a new thread just for this) Please, help me.

The animation might be locked so it can't be used in external programs.

Just use a friendlier tone, they're all much nicer then  (+ the thread becomes a bit more attractive to look at)
I gotta pay more attention to this thread... 3d crap IS my job after all v:v:v
does anyone in here take requests? I always have some modeling gruntwork I'd rather just dish out to someone for a few bucks.
It depends on what you're asking as 'grunt work', I'd love to try some serious work though, I'm so fucking bored with 3D lately.
