I'm really bad at making light setups, so i downloaded a random car and a light setup and tested it out. What do you think? Should i use this one? [editline]11:44PM[/editline] I wish i was that good. :saddowns:
So whats better, 100% JPEG or PNG?
For what? If you do a scene, any would work. If you need it crystal clear then png would be better.
I'm making a Charr from Guild Wars. Still has a lot to be done. Like the mouth needs to be better. Would still like critique though. Reference:
eyebrow area needs more definition. pretty nice plane, although the pictures are a bit dark. anyways, rigged and ready to go. he's in an optimization test scene, checking the frame drop of him being there.
Thats what i have been saying, showing off work you have done should be uncompressed
Nope There's no noticeable difference between jpg and png on photo-like images, expect the size Png is good for sharper and simpler stuff
Followed a youtube video as much as I could and got this so far: Not sure if I'm going to make the full body though! Also with the other half attached: yes I know: crappy quality and a lot of errors!
Not too much progress, I tried to fiddle around with the eyebrows a bit more. Also I'm not liking the teeth, how can I make some good sharp looking teeth? Also I found a in-game model of the concept art I'm basing my model off of. However it's a bit different. [img_thumb]http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/8/86/Charr_elementalist.jpg[/img_thumb] Thumbnailed.
awesome I got the funny rating in the voting thread :buddy:
That is photograph. Do not deny. I have exposed your secret.
it has chromatic abberation but the edge is aliased.

Yep, not gonna see that in motion.
That polyflow is very bad and will result in terrible smoothing, both subd and smooth groups.

well done mate! learn smoothing in what ever program you are using to make things look smooth. Like the rounded bodypart. Also, when the art contest voting is over, im gonna post my picture here to get some comments.
yeah. i'm thinking about buying a book to help me along. any good ones out there?
I'd recommend video and internet tutorials.
I'd recommend video and internet tutorials.
any good places to go to? also wallpaper I'm working on. Don't mind the gray background, or the boring text. They're both placeholders. [IMG_thumb]http://i34.tinypic.com/28anbpz.png[/IMG_thumb]
So whats better, 100% JPEG or PNG?
PNG is lossless, JPEG is lossy, even at 100%. You're basically asking "Which is better? A small scratched record or a big clean one?" Although in some cases PNG will actually be smaller, such as in cases where there is large empty areas of a single colour, say in that XKCD image.
Was digging through my old deviant art comments and found my first photomerged 3D model, done about a month before I joined FP so I assume I've never brought it up here. God, I've always loved doing this stuff but I never see it around this thread when I pop in here-and-there. Anyone else do this very often? ...and yeah that's my room after CLEANING, years and years ago. it's much worse now.
Are you going to do invisible icons over the picture? :buddy:
never thought of that, that's a great idea!
Ok, I modelled the wrong type of wheel, it was late and I was drunk. I'll make some rally wheels tomorrow x)

My first go at HDRi. The shadow was a pain. Anyone know easier ways to get an invisible shadow catcher in a 3d scene in C4d?
That shadow is bad. It's not even transparent.
you need to more light to balance it out. [editline]10:56PM[/editline] also your light angle is off

And the same background material to it. If the background picture is a hrdi sky then it's a bigger process.
