I heard some game engines don't like small/stretched triangles, I guess that won't be a problem with UDK.

Kind of new to 3ds max, but here is something I made.

As far as I know, on non-animated/rigged meshes any triangle is fine.
It could be optimized even more. Triangles are fine.
made some more progress on my plane that no one here seems to ever even reply to.
Optimized the model as much as I could (optimized it slightly more after posting this screenshot):

I'm very afraid of those stretchy triangles.
Much better, good job . Though, you could still remove alot of those triangles while maintaining the shape, and I still see those quads on the arm rests, which could be simplified.

Looking good, I like the detail so far.

What it should look like
I probably missed one or 2 but you get the point.

The one above has n-gons from what I can see (or multiple objects), I know UDK is fine with multiple Objects (n-gons not so much), Source for example is not, I have already removed a lot of those extra triangles, every time I looked at the model I ended up noticing places where I could optimize it more, UV Mapping is going alone fine too :D
This was my contest submittion.

the grill has bad AA.
Whatcha think
rather nice
the tires do not look like rubber. there is no glass. the... headlights? have no bulbs.
ughhggh 3DSMax 2011 is horrible. I hate the little transparent boxes that come up when you're in edit poly mode. I want my windows back.
the tires do not look like rubber. there is no glass. the... headlights? have no bulbs.
congratulations for spotting the obvious.
Sup guys.

After finishing the title sequence, I decided to have a go at a Progenitor Dalek. It's going pretty well, I know it's a bit out of proportion but I'm happy with it. The hardest part by far were the panels with the balls on, because it was so hard getting them to face the right way and retain the shape of the Dalek was so time-consuming!
It's also ridiculously high poly because I forgot to trim down the subdivs on the balls but oh well.

nice model, but the render could've been so much better.

automatic rifle, i just need to finish the back end.

for some reason, it looks slightly better in-game than rendered.
Texture seems "cheap". I really love the design, but texture looks almost like you poured flat color on it and then added some noise. Especially the brown/wooden part.
Does it have a normal map? Because I don't really see any. Also stock is too undetailed looking. Hence why a normal map would be good.

This is what he/she thinks, you don't have to be rude.

Wasnt rude, just should have said that you dont need to state the obvious. and yeah, theres a couple of flaws like the glass and that.
My first real model, so i am proud of myslef :v:
Also off topic, just got a new processor. The old one rendered that image in 1 hour, new one does it in 10 minutes.
Fucking love it
(Phenom quad 3.2 ghz(wonder how much i can overclock it if i need to.))

no normal map, just spec. i can make one pretty quick, but i didn't think it needed it.

the noise is from the low sample AO bake. i'll do a 32 sample bake when it's done.

Gimme :( I have a Q6600 and a really good cooler, but my motherboard is junk so I need to dish out $200 for a new one, which I could do but I dont know if I want to.
Like the model btw. Great for a first :)

You really want max samples when baking AO, which is 512.
You really want max samples when baking AO, which is 512.
That many is just... pointless.
That many is just... pointless.
Why? I've found that I get some visible noise from anything under 256. Plus I've never had a bake that's taken over 2 mins.
