Whoa that's a great site. Thanks man
I started modeling pretty recently and I'd like you to tell how I'm doing.
All I'm giving you is a boring chair :v:

I have no idea about texturing (mostly making them look good/finding good textures) or rendering by the way.

NO! That's exactly what a Time Lord would expect him to say...
Make it say MUSTHELPINATE.
Then it shoots people with it's gun stick after gaining their trust.
eh? Eh?
Just started this yesterday
Took about 2-3 hours.
It's still a WIP I have to fix the lighting, and maybe experiment with the sphere material.

That's pretty great looking in my opinion, I love how the sphere looks.
i dont understand where the light is coming from...

also have a picture of my shoddy undetailed texture work. first time working in mudbox... or 3d painting in general actually.

Uh, yeah, I made this a few days ago, pretty good imo considering I've only been using 3DS Max for 8 hours total.
I know it sucks.

I made this as a joke, I guess.
i dont know what the fuck it is but it looks cool

I await the day when I can make things like that.
Now I need to find a good 3DS Max tutorial.
i dont understand where the light is coming from...
It's a lamp butI still haven't gotten around to making it.

i did all of those and i found them really helpful. just make sure you follow along with all them.
as for unwrapping,
http://www.waylon-art.com/uvw_tutorial/uvwtut_01.html
that just explained everything simply and really well.

Hey, thanks!
I'll probably try them tomorrow.

Thank you. It was driving me crazy trying to think of where I had seen it before. :v:
I've been messing with putting models in UDK. Great engine, it's really easy to get stuff from max into it.

i could render my plane for hours.
get a better sky image and itl look a lot better
get a better sky image and itl look a lot better
i dont even have a sky image. where can i get one and how can i put it in
was bored and well yeah, wanted to test out luxrender.
i dont even have a sky image. where can i get one and how can i put it in
cheap way is to just search for HDRI sky or something, and just putting it on a flat surface
A friend asked me if I could model a "Smith & Wesson M500 Silver" for him, so I gave it a shot:

As you can see, the basics are done, now it's just a matter of optimizing and adding details.
I know the model could be better (especially technically), but I'm still a beginning modeller. So far, I'm pretty happy with it.

I don't really like how the material on the handle ended up looking, but whatever.
[editline]01:37AM[/editline]
Just improved the floor and the handle material.
I am now setting up a basic rotating animation.
Tried this one, but wasn't useful this time. I couldn't find shotguns. Anyway, thanks. :)
I can take some reference pictures of a remington 870.

I'd say just use the linear integrator with a fuckton of samples per pixels and a single pass. It may not look as cool when rendering, but in my experience it's much faster with no loss of quality.

that part is just wrong, it needs detail, and the rotating bullet holder looks too long.

I like realflow.
Another generic realflow test animation.
Come on people, can't you use it for something more creative?
