Got round to getting my scorp into zbrush today.
I'm basing the texture off of this image
Damn scorpions are hairier than I thought
Exactly what I thought. No idea how I'm going to replicate that to use in udk :(
Depending on scale though i might not need to.
Just scatter planes with hair texture on it.
Or use actual geometry if you have the resources.
When you guys do real world modeling, how do you get the best lighting conditions to make photos for textures? Usually with artificial light the color balance for different parts of my subjects are way off. An extremely simple example of that is the thing below:

The sides are brighter than the top.
If it's not perfect, post process it
How about, Smooth.

It is the default Glare Camera Shader that is built in with 3DS Max.

Heh, those things are so confusing. I had to use them on induction day to a college I decided not to bother going to.
Man, I want to learn to 3D model, but I just have no idea where to start. I'm kinda getting the hang of z-brush, but could anyone give me any guidance? :unsmith:

I work in 3DS Max, if you manage to get the program, I will help you with everything.

Yeah, I think I could manage to get it. Get a student discount somewhere maybe.
Would you help me personally, or just direct me to some tutorials?

Alright, just curious, what are you doing for your western project, son?
Is Maya a good program to start with for someone who knows absolutely nothing?
Is Maya a good program to start with for someone who knows absolutely nothing?
I'd say so, yes. I used to work with Maya back in college, I'm more of a 3DS Max fan but Maya works too. They say 3DS is for Game Design and Maya is for film. If you want to start in 3DS I can help you, though.

For cheap? Send me a private message of your Steam ID so I can add you.
If you do choose maya, add me on steam, I will help you :)
Also it's bull that max is for games and maya is for movies. Both can do both.
I am on maya and game modeling works just like in max.
Also the first app you start with should be the app you stick with. I switched from max to maya and the switch was painful because ui is very different. But when you get used to it, it's ok

Maya can be used for games as well, it's just that max has better in viewport rendering, it's really just down to personal preference.
Though there is a trend towards maya from what I've seen. V:v:V

I'd say it's 1:1 as maya vs max users.
But lately maya has been becoming more popular than it was before

Yes, but the film industry uses Maya and the game industry uses 3DS. If you do research you will find this to be true. Both are compatible, however, as stated on many websites, Maya is the film Industry Standard and 3DS is for Game Design.

I looked at 3DS Max. It looks coo'
To name just a few movies developed with the use of Maya, Here is the list:
Spider-Man, Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, TheLord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Gladiator, The Matrix and What Dreams May Come, The Matrix Reloaded, The Hulk and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
FUCK YEAH
I got a cheap serial key off of eBay. 100 Dollars.
And it's legit, never been used. Downside? It's 3DS Max 2008.
