The hell in the E3 footage is in the release game, they just changed the lighting
I mean, technically the area/assets are intact, but the arena in the E3 hell footage is more like the middle point of the map compared to the intro segment. So they either re-arranged a lot of stuff over the course of that year, only had part of the level design finished at that point, or intentionally cut two parts of the level together for the sake of the demonstration.
I actually forgot how long the glory kills are by default because I unlocked the rune that makes them go faster and had it on permanently for most of the game.
I remember sucking ass after turning off the tune that made glory kills available from a greater distance
Literally the only things that look better in the E3 version to me are the plasma and hologram effects.
A rare case of the release version improving over the demos.
Plasma, hologram, Revenant's rocket boost pack exhaust (which kind of looks like the plasma) and the lava aswell imo. The glowy lava looks nicer.
Hell looks a little more atmospheric, because of the thunder storms and the sulphur clouds, but it clutters visuals a bit.
Other than that, the final edition looks like a much sharper and detailed game. Iirc, the E3 gameplay was on a console right? And the final was on a PC? Or were they both on the same platform? Would explain a lot, but still, I remember playing it on PS4 at release and it did look much better than the E3 footage.
