im just waiting until 2012 so when it comes i can shit on all of the religious people just to be an asshole
What does this even mean?
NASA has proved that it isnt going to happen...
Based on the current geopolitical situation, it could very well be. I haven't heard anything about the Mayans having to do with this, but I have the gut feeling it just might happen.

What happens on 2012 is inside the box.
The world is not going to end.
I think it's gonna end up like y2k, everyone shits themselves about it but nothing happens

Exactly.
People often say its because the Mayan Calendar ends on dec 21st 2012, when, infact, it doesn't it just begins anew.

Also even if the prophecy was true it says "end of the world as we know it" not "earth explodes". Panic spreaders, conspiracy theorists and people who seek attention say just "end of the world".
"End of the world as we know it" can mean many things. From ice age to inventing FTL drive.
Nothing's going to happen.
The world is predicted to end like every year anyway.
The world is NOT ending 2012. It's that simple.
The world already ended, this is all a dream.

We just need to go deeper
The Earth might get screwed and people may be extinct, but the world still exists.
For the world, to stop existing, it would take some collapsing of the whole Universe, so yeah, not gonna happen.
Except it doesn't and the only thing close to a prohpecy is that the 13th cycle of the mayan calendar ends.

And isn't that supposed to signify a new age? Like, not apocalypse, more like a leap-and-bound in progress.
Nope, just the start of the 14th cycle, no real different from us and the end of a century or milennia or even decade, except their cycle (instead of say a decade) is around 395 years, at which point the mayan calendar will be 5520 years old.
There's nothing mystical or hidden about it, it's just liek us going from december 1999 to january 2000.
It's also the way it is because they simply had a different way of counting than we do.

Ah. Makes me wonder where conspiracy theorists and such even deduced that it would mean the apocalypse.
World already ended in 2000, silly.
The sales of guns and canned food will sky rocket a week before, but still nothing will happen. Then they will realize that it was a big waste of time and effort to buy the supplies.
Also, which timezone will the world "end" in?
Just another 2 years and we will never have to hear 12 year olds making bullshit theories again...
The world will end OP, you should hide in a bunker and never post again.
Oh god 666th post world is going to end oh man oh god
I'm interested in what the next big world ending prophecy there's going to be after 2012 fails and people hype for the next one.

So if I create a religion based on me, eventually people will worship me?
brb
They think the world is going to end because the Mayan calender ended.
They would have finished the calender if they hadn't all been slaughtered.

Except the calender doesn't "end" it just restarts another cycle, it is finished that's like saying the world is going to end because we reached the end of a decade. It will never end, its a cyclical sytem of counting.

New age religionist fanatical bullshit conspiracy theorists.
