Not sure if this is late, but Al Jazeera says Suez is almost a ghost town, the army enforced the curfew very powerfully.
Not sure if this is late, but Al Jazeera says Suez is almost a ghost town, the army enforced the curfew very powerfully.
fuck
I heard something about Suez being the most violent but I got distracted so I must have missed that. That does not sound good honestly... shit.
Not sure if this has been posted, but I agree with many of the points that the author makes. We're in a unique position to gain the support of the Egyptian people, but I can also understand Obama's hesitancy to pick a side. i hope they don't loot the museum too bad, that place is on my bucket list :smith:
I have a feeling that Mubarak is going to let as much chaos as possible ensue and then jump ship.
I have a feeling that Mubarak is going to let as much chaos as possible ensue and then jump ship.
Well, it might be the opposite- he might wish to engineer as much chaos to get the people to line up with his state to restore "order". I won't be surprised if within some of the looters and what not are government agents. The Turkish coup in 1980 saw the government doing much of the same with mass chaos on the streets, with some people suspecting they may've even orchestrated prison breaks during the unrest so as to create a pretext for them to restore order and drum up support along those lines.
Yeah that military commander supports the people it seems and tells that he will take off his army uniform and protest with them during day, but at night he's asking them to go home so that they can handle the thugs. They seem to want to help, and they're probably right, because it's hard to catch the thugs with all the people around and they seem to be doing a lot of damage especially after ruining the museum. Edit: Men on motorcycles are looting homes and stores in uptown and downtown suburbs. Witnesses claim they may belong to the regime. (from the Al Jazeera stream). They're looting people homes. Wow... And nobody can stop this either. This is really going to suck for some people :(
Government IDs and weapons found on some of the thugs who were captured by demonstrators. Great.
Government IDs and weapons found on some of the thugs who were captured by demonstrators. Great.
Holy shit
Government IDs and weapons found on some of the thugs who were captured by demonstrators. Great.
This is a good thing, the more government involvement with looters is going to cause more rift between the military and the government Keep fucking yourself over Mubarak
Unrelated: What's the name of the female anchor right now on the stream? Reposting for justice http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now
I love going on Facebook and seeing how nobody gives a fuck about this at all and probably doesn't even know it's happening. Fucking average teenagers.
I love going on Facebook and seeing how nobody gives a fuck about this at all and probably doesn't even know it's happening. Fucking average teenagers.
I could not agree more. I approve of you good sir and my hat is down to you for that statement. Kind of pisses me off to have to spend the whole day in school every day with these ignorant kids.
Government IDs and weapons found on some of the thugs who were captured by demonstrators. Great.
So he pretty much deployed those thugs to make the protesters look like violent savages who just want to cause destruction? I'm glad they got caught.
I love going on Facebook and seeing how nobody gives a fuck about this at all and probably doesn't even know it's happening. Fucking average teenagers.
Same here, posted some stuff about what's going on, expecting some discussion, but no one bothered.
Same here, posted some stuff about what's going on, expecting some discussion, but no one bothered.
There are some facebook groups like this one, http://www.facebook.com/elshaheeed.co.uk For people who have an interest.
So the new cabinet is the old cabinet with new jobs? ...Does he think his citizens are retarded?
So the new cabinet is the old cabinet with new jobs? ...Does he think his citizens are retarded?
He's in a state of frenzy trying to desperately cling to what remaining power he has. He's been in power for 30 years (more then that if you add his vice presidency). I'd think he can't imagine himself without that power, so he's probably in a state of panic.
I'm very disappointed. I'm keeping status updates on this stuff as soon as I can, and literally no one gives a fuck on facebook. I'm very excited at these events. The military seems promising and seeming right headed. From the United States, I hope that this revolution ends like ours- all people have a right to be free, and your nation is no exemption! Also, screw Obama's dancing around the issue. Hypocritical side-switching ass.
Also, screw Obama's dancing around the issue. Hypocritical side-switching ass.
Meh I agree but I can hardly blame Obama. First of all he's not the only one there to make decisions so he can't say things alone, he has a whole legislature behind him. Obviously theres a lot of diplomatic things that are at risk, not just with Egypt but with surrounding countries too. And the American economy depends on the middle east because of resources, and all other things like that.
I'd always thought Egypt was a pretty chill place but this guy is a grade A scumbag. It seems near impossible now but if the protesters manage to get near him, he deserves nothing less then what Ceausecu received. My full support goes to the Egyptian protesters, but fuck those looters.

That thug thing is scaring me. Mubarak is getting really desperate... also, If you guys remember a few pages back, I just bit back at the retard posting on my status.
That's true, and I mean, picking sides will be dangerous anyhow, cause if the government survives and they side with the protesters, then we're in trouble, and if they side with the government and the protesters overthrow it, well...
What did you expect differently? Obama, Bush II, Clinton, Bush I, and Reagan pretty much treated Mubarak's regime the same. Egypt ties into the United States' regional plans for the Middle-East and they will line up behind him if the need arises. It just shows the hypocrisy of course, with the United States preaching democracy and freedom in some corners of the world but ignoring it if it happens to be a key ally. Media plays into this too- they were prancing on about how Egyptians wanted "reforms" initially, parroting State Department terms. Egyptians want Mubarak and the rest of his clowns OUT, not some token reforms.
What's happening on the live stream? Any new info?
What's happening on the live stream? Any new info?
I've only been watching it for a little bit, but it seems to be the same info. Citizens should protect property from looters. Death toll keeps rising. Travel is "strongly advised" to not visit Egypt's major cities (Alexandria, Cairo, etc.)
Basically they are just saying many countries have advised against going there. Obvious much?
What's happening on the live stream? Any new info?
Well on the Al-Jazeera end they're discussing the appointments Mubarak made (that they're part of the same mess etc), showing some Demos outside of Egyptian embassies internationally (showing ones in London and France as I write this). And as I finish this, there's a shot of demonstrators massing Tahrir square. Opposition figures continue to be detained.
