You people are completely naive if you expect the Egyptian people to prosper from this.
I want them to be free and be a democratic nation but I seriously can't see that type of nation forming out of the ashes of Mubarak.
The next government in Egypt will be much worse for Western Interests and for the Egyptian people.
Ever heard of the french revolution?
Is this getting media attention in America yet? Cos I remember people were complaining no one even knew about it.
Still top story on the BBC, and teachers have brought it up twice at school, once leading to the class discussing it (even though it was french class, fuck dat) :smug:
Yeah, it seems to be getting a lot more attention in the USA now.
BBC reports that the battle between anti- and pro-government protesters in Cairo is over, and has been won by the anti-government protesters, who have now regained control of Tahrir Square.
:woop:
State TV showing urgent banner warning everyone in Tahrir square to evacuate immediately. (or else?)
Ever heard of the french revolution?
Europe is a far different place than the Middle-east.
Don't even try and compare western ideals to middle-eastern ones.
I don't even think you've studied the French Revolution. It was because of its debt and the rich-poor gap. Egypt has a major rich-poor gap that countless presidents have tried and fix but Mubarak made it worse.

I'm guessing you have been watching fitna too much.

They are saying the violence has continued now.

It's not the revolution itself that I am concerned with.
It's who will take control after this is all done. France =/= Egypt
Also someone talking to the BBC now is saying that one of the pro Mubarak protesters was a drug dealer who was let free in exchange for protesting.
(Or something like that, it wasn't very clear)
Edit: Damn it, broke my automerge

It's hard to care about politics when you can be arrested and beaten to death for no reason at any time.
why is the UN just standing by! WHY!
Because that's all they ever do.

Likely i'ts going to be a popular figure before the revolt.
I thought I'd show you guys some awesome photos that I haven't seen in the thread. If you've seen these, then sorry.

You can NEVER know how the person who takes control is going to act, but it's better to do something than do nothing, and i SEVERELY doubt someone who is similar to mubarak is going to take control, look at how pissed off the people are.
But here's a question for you, you are concerned for what exactly? That there will be more terrorists attacks or something? Take your tin foil hat off, extremists aren't as common as some news sources would have you believe.

Groups like the Muslim Brotherhood or pro-Iranian figures don't inspire me with confidence for a brighter future for the Egyptian people.

The Brotherhood has been very accepting of other groups, including Christians. You make it sound like they're militant, they're not.
Groups like the Muslim Brotherhood or pro-Iranian figures don't inspire me with confidence for a brighter future for the Egyptian people.
Its a good think the Muslim Brotherhood said they would support a secular leader and not nominate their own. (am I mistaken?)
Thom, please, if you don't know what you are talking about, stop posting like that.
Wasn't Iran's president and Mubarak the same in a lot of respects? How can a president come out of this and be pro what he tried so hard to get rid of.
and I think when leaders make decisions in the future, they are going to remember how their people revolted.
Do you see all the dumbs you are getting? This is a prime example of what Mubarak is doing. Everybody rates him dumb yet he continues on with this point that he pulled out his ass which makes the people rate him dumb more.
holy shit, I think I just saw 2 people sword fighting with sword looking things in the attacks that happened today. That looked actually really cool to be honest. They were literally sword fighting like you would see in a movie :/

I came across this sort of relevant article just now, its a few days old but its an interesting insight.

this is really boiling now, the military are going to have to take mubarak out or I don't know what
Mustafa Alfiki NDP leader on Aljazeera: "Ruling National Democratic party paid sums of money to thugs to attack protesters".
The president of this party happens to be the president of Egypt: Mubarak.
The Western media makes me sick, watch this:

There is a full blown moloktov cocktail war right now, I'm watching the livestream and I actually saw a guy running while on fire, they put him out quickly.
What kind of system has Egypt ?
Communism, Capitalism?
Just go to Wikipedia if you want a general perspective about a country's politics.
This is classic example of how many presidential dictatorships operate in the Middle-East and other places. These "pro-Mubarak" types are paid thugs the NDP maintains for show of "support". In previous years with smaller, local demonstrations and political rallies they appear out of nowhere sometimes to break them apart and break the morale of opposition. The Ba'ath in Syria and Iraq often employed similar methods as do groups working with the Basij in Iran.
All revolutions and movements have seen similar forces emerge from the government in attempts to break apart popular movements, formed from the ranks of people who should be opposed to the old order. As was the case with the Venée armies in Revolutionary France.
From what I read on a contact from facebook, it said these pro-Mubarak types were able to go to certain military emplacements, such as those around the museum, that was restricted by force on other demonstrators. The fact they're able to fall back to these places indicate this is a planned op by the government.
Combined with the government use of "criminals" and prison breaks to increase instability as the Turkish military coup in 1980 perfected, they're trying to break apart the demonstrations and force people to defend themselves rather than continue pressing for Mubarak's regime to step down.
here they are , pro Mubarak's are actually using police cars ...

VOODOO!! Im so glad you're back and ok.
Anyway, Ive been worried sick in school. My dad is my personal reporter giving my updates through text messages since I cant look at Al jazeera at school, and i couldnt even focus.
I wish this violence went away, I cant believe theyre doing this. And why is the army bystanding?! Cant they see how the people are peaceful and the mubaraks are idiotically violent?
One army guy even almost committed suicide and others are crying because they cant help their people due to orders. I cant believe this. Who is giving these orders?! Are they crazy?!
They have to save the people, they will be heroes! FFFUUdamnit!
