Xeno, there SHOULD be a coup. That's the whole point. The army has the decision now and they need to take Egypt from Mubarak and his hell-ridden regime.
If you honestly think that, you're extremely naive.
Here's what'd likely happen if there was a coup: Tomorrow, pretty much every western government would have a bitchfit about the military hurting "civilian" pro-Mub protesters (even though they're not.) Pundits would be blaming whoever benefited the most immediately (probably interim leader/s) for staging a grievous human rights catastrophe to gain personal power. The whole thing would be panned as a horrible deed and if no hard action was taken, the diplomatic consequences would still be horrible.
It sounds nice to think about the army liberating everyone, but you have to remember that there are still people who benefit from the country being under Mubie's thumb, and unless there is some ridiculous and transparent act of deliberate malice on his part towards the people (worse than paying cops to dress like civvies and drop bombs off roofs), they'll be able to spin the fuck out of it.
Dude... the guy on the phone with AJE is crying because of the things that are happening there.
I want to cry now too... those poor people, god I wish the violence stopped.
Most people don't give a shit what goes on outside their own countries unless it affects it.
It's more than that.
Elsewhere, in the United States, Al Jazeera faces a different kind of blackout, based largely on misinformed views about our content and journalism. Some of the largest American cable and satellite providers have instituted corporate obstacles against Al Jazeera English.
We are on the air and on the major cable system in the nation's capital, and some of America's leading policymakers in Washington, DC, have told us that Al Jazeera English is their channel of choice for understanding global issues. But we are not available in the majority of the 50 states for much of the general public.
Your average person doesn't give a shit about anything that's not presented to them. The oldest of fucks in the U.S. grew up with Hearst papers and now Murdoch's Fox News. If the info wasn't put on a plate and handed to them, it may as well not exist, and they have never cared about potential bias or flagrant errors in any of it. I've been in college lectures when postgraduate students though Al-Jazeera was a terrorist organization. Fox and the U.S. government pushed that view they were evil during the early days of the Iraq war.
It's not just apathy, it's not knowing what else is out there. So Fox can spin this to look like there are only a "few" protesters and largely ignore the whole police-IDs-on-pro-mubie-crowd thing and everyone else buys it because, hey, what the hell else do they hear?
Actually, do yourself and your U.S. friends a favor:

Hit up your cable provider.

And people wonder why the majority of underage Facepunch users in the United States seem to hate our own country so much. I realise I might be acting a tad dumb, but I really can't stand this country anymore. Social liberties don't really mean much if nobody uses them.

As if they wouldn't do that anyway.
The news has decided that the protesters are terrorist muslims, and now so shall it be.
The united states needs an uprising to fix this back ass back words country.

Wait, what?
Wait, what?
its just the commies, ignore them
Is it bad that I laugh each time I see the guy riding the camel? I mean, who goes "Wow, look at all those protesters fighting against a corrupt government that I support, I know! I'll ride up to them on a camel!" Sure, you'll scare them off at first, but then mob mentality kicks in and you get swarmed.
Plus what happed to the camel? did it run off or became camel burgers?
Why am I so concerned about a fucking camel?
-le snip-
arent there laws about falsifying news?!?!? thats whats happening in the us ffs!
Is the AJE website down for anyone else?
Has the OP ever posted back? I'm really worried for him.
:ohdear:

Yeah.
Also, 15 minutes abo, Beeb tweet:
Egyptian military reportedly rounding up foreign journalists near Tahrir Square saying it's for their own protection, from AP
Also @ above, yeah, he has. Couple pages ago.

Yes
[editline]3rd February 2011[/editline]
Just recently
Ive heard that reporters are being attacked by pro-mubarak protestors, so for their own safety I'd let the army round them up. But yeah, no idea whats going on with AJE website though.
BBCBreaking BBC Breaking News
BBC's Paul Danahar reports hearing heavy gunfire coming from Cairo's Tahrir Square amid clashes between pro and anti-Mubarak protesters
HEAVY gunfire now! Hope everyone's okay out there.
Murbak doesn't really understand the concept of Good Public Image.
In fact, I think hes trying to get people to hate him now.
I've seen somewhere that Tahrir actually means Liberation, because AJ is calling it Liberation Square instead of Tahrir, but has it always been called that? What an appropriate name :3:

Tahrir Square or Midan Tahrir (Arabic: ميدان التحرير‎, IPA: [meˈdæːn el-, ettæħˈɾiːɾ], trans. Liberation Square)
Al Jazeera is back up.
Apparently the army goes around and arrest journalists and confiscate their cameras.
I heard a lot of gunfire and heard an explosion on Al Jazeera.
Some Belgian journalist was arrested and was accused of espionage.
Hope Pharaoh and Voodoo are alright.

Good. Let the world know that this isn't some crazy religious uprising like Iran. This is a legitimate turning over of the current government for a new democracy, not everything Fox Noise and other biased news agencies would like you to think.
umm no..
Its called history.
Shit like this has happened before.
All i see and have seen, is a revolution with no organized leadership trying to be peaceful, falling on its ass, and turning into a bloodbath literally in a flash.
Kind of hard to have faith in a country that is revolting when both sides appear to be chicken with their heads cut off now.
Holy shit people like you are dumb!
Theres been countless people in this thread making statements that OBVIOUSLY show they haven't even done a little bit of research. If you look at any news channel or live stream and watched a video on the revolution, you will hear from almost any channel in the first 10 minutes of watching about Elbaradie (spelling?) HE IS THE OPPOSITION LEADER!
And it doesn't matter what happened in the past to form Egypt's future. Just because of the influence around them doesn't mean they are doomed to elect another corrupt leader. They are pushing OUT a corrupt leader right now so why would they voluntarily elect one who is anything like Mubarak?
Shit people, do your research before you come into this thread!
It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside to see christians and muslims working together instead of the usual hatred that goes on down there.
Apparently the army goes around and arrest journalists and confiscate their cameras.
no thats the police last time I checked...
do more research on the subject and you'll find that the Military has vowed not to turn against the people.
Also, to anybody reading this page, If you don't know that much about the protests, don't say wild and untrue things unless its a legitimate question. It gets annoying when people say
"Egypt is a shit country, they need Mubarak to keep order, this revolt is pointless and will never work, they need to wait till September till he steps down or it will continue to devastate the country"
That particular sentence is filled with BULL SHIT and therefore you shouldn't post. And I know some people believe this too... Don't be ignorant because some people who ARE actually Egyptian or people who have followed this thread from the start and check it every day and watch the Al Jazeera stream non-stop (like myself) will call you out on your mistakes. But please, avoid making them because they enrage the passionate supporters in here.
