I have my brother's kung-fu championship gear, body armour and leggings, and an industrial hazard helmet, I could wear them and not care about looking like a clown, but I'd be arrested on sight for looking suspicious; the only thing I can wear without raising suspicion is my steel-enforced boots. Sometimes blending-in is more important than protection, all of that won't protect me if I try to resist and get swarmed by 20 soldiers in riot gear from all directions.
Just keep it in a pack for when shit hits the fan.
Just keep it in a pack for when shit hits the fan.
They're strip searching people at Al-manshya square at the moment.
OP, this might sound dickish and kind of unrelated but my parents are going to Egypt next week - Would staying in any larger city be safe enough for them during the current situation?
They're strip searching people at Al-manshya square at the moment.
In that case, wouldn't your steel toed boots draw some attention?

Personally, I would recommend they wait till things blow over first. [editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
In that case, wouldn't your steel toed boots draw some attention?
Because on the exterior they look like normal ones?
In that case, wouldn't your steel toed boots draw some attention?
If they're modern work boots, then they should have leather over the cap and would look like completely normal shoes [editline]27th January 2011[/editline] The news sites in our country are covering the protests http://24ur.com/novice/svet/foto-in-video-v-egiptu-ze-tretji-dan-napeto.html Here are some translated comments
očitno imajo v Egiptu razčiščeno v glavah kaj hočejo in kaj ne Looks like in egypt, they obviously know what they want

Kmalu bo ljudstvo Egipta zadihalo zrak svobode in demokracije. Tako bi morali ravnati povsod, kjer oblastniki mislijo,da so nepogrešljivi,da je ljudstvo njihova last in z njim delajo kar hočejo.Vse v interesu kapitala in neke smopašne elite. Soon the people of Egypt will breathe the fresh air of freedom and democracy. This is how it's supposed to be everywhere where the people in authority think they're irreplacable, that they own their countrymen and can do with them whatever they want. All for the interest of the capital and the ''elite''
there's not many comments, but over all the reaction over here is positive. good luck op

[editline]27th January 2011[/editline] Because on the exterior they look like normal ones?
I suppose I'm just not entirely sure of what you mean by "Strip search".
I probably get rated dumb for not knowing, but why wait until now to protest?
I probably get rated dumb for not knowing, but why wait until now to protest?
The motivation probably came from similar success in Tunisia
The motivation probably came from similar success in Tunisia
So a copycat protest?
They were motivated by Tunisia's success, they aren't trying to emulate them or more likely, Tunisia was only a part of what gave way into the protests
want me to rip my shirt off and wrap my bandana round my head and fly to Egypt and fuck shit up
They were motivated by Tunisia's success, they aren't trying to emulate them or more likely, Tunisia was only a part of what gave way into the protests
So what are the chances of the government listening to you people?
I suppose I'm just not entirely sure of what you mean by "Strip search".
I am, but they'll only strip search you if you have any kind of suitcase or bag on you, if you look suspicious in the subtlest way possible (even a look of intent could give you away), or walking in a group of 3 or more. My other point is that the boots are legit, they can't arrest me for wearing industrial boots AFAIK.
If the riot police are going ballistic just trying to stop the protesters, how do they manage to have strip searchers without them being overrun?
Best of luck for you comrade! You took part in making history.
If the riot police are going ballistic just trying to stop the protesters, how do they manage to have strip searchers without them being overrun?
The ones strip searching are regular police and secret police in civilian cloth, if you try to resist you're automatically guilty of something.. fucking senseless.
Best of luck for you comrade! You took part in making history.
Thanks, albeit a tiny and marginal one so far.
So what are the chances of the government listening to you people?
The goverment of Egypt will probably not have a big part in the removal of their president. Also I'm not Egyptian.
shit is coming too fast on twitter, csec soldiers refuse to attack civilians and officers are forcing them, and this: egypt_25_jan: our reporter in #Suez: Dispute between army units on whether to support the police against the Intifada #jan25 #egypt [editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
So what are the chances of the government listening to you people?
Slim but possible

Down with the Farao! Seriously though, show them that the people shouldn't fear their government, but that the government needs to fear their people.
I can see if they start killing civilians, America will put their nose in it and invade.
The problem with that is, our people are not very fond of such foreign intervention, I pray for that not to happen. If Egyptians see any foreign army on Egyptian soil everyone will probably attack it, people, police and army will unite against it; call it stupid but that's how it'll work. Please, please don't do this America; let us settle this on our own.
How about they stop using lethal force against unarmed civilians?
Don't wanna be a panzy but it is less-lethal.It has a smaller chance of killing you but it is less lethal.
Voodooattack, what's your city? Going to go out again?

Keep on fighting though. Strange but there's probably more good going to come from it than destruction.
Don't wanna be a panzy but it is less-lethal.It has a smaller chance of killing you but it is less lethal.
In case you haven't followed the thread, they already used live rounds on the crowds, we have 7 confirmed deaths and now they've got garrisons at morgues to prevent people from storming them, which can only mean that at least some of the detained people got killed.
Voodooattack, what's your city? Going to go out again?
Alexandria, and yeah, trying to hook up with someone, first rule is to never go out alone. Alone or not however, I'll be going out to a huge protest tomorrow right after we have the now-banned Jomaa prayer at Al-Qua'ed Ibrahim mosque in the middle of the city. A Dutch journalist was also beaten up: http://www.trouw.nl/nieuws/wereld/article3396394.ece/Trouw-correspondent_in_Egypte_mishandeld_.html Either way, good luck to you OP, I hope you stay safe, and I hope things will get better in your country. :h:
Dutch news reports that obama is supporting Mubarak and he donated 1.3 billion dollar to the egyptian army a while ago, ensuring they stay on Mubarak's side. Obama's stance is essential in the side the army will take if things escalate. Also according to the media here: 60% of the people in egypt are under 30 years old and alot of them dont have a job, this is a brewing pot that creates riots like this.
Is the whole country rebelling or just parts.
