It means that scientists and engineers are the ones who rule a country. I'm not sure there has ever actually been a true technocracy ever. I believe it would be a good thing.
I know what definite technocracy means in its ideal form, but what we're faced with is not an abstract term. What we're faced with is its real-world manifestation, and what can actually go wrong with the application. The previous government had specialists in their fields running their respective positions. But they also owned and/or were affiliated with companies that specialise in their fields, which suddenly grew and became dominant in their markets, which inevitably led to corruption and the unholy union of capital and power. And that brings us to where we are now; The aforementioned companies and the business-men behind them are now fully supporting Mubarak and his regime to secure their assets and monopoly on the market, a pure act of self-perseverance. A prime example is Ezz-Steel. (Although Ezz himself was first to jump the boat, figures) [editline]6th February 2011[/editline] To further explain what I mean: What we have is the result of technocracy interacting with capitalism in an environment that is prone to corruption. (which is everywhere under the sun as far as I can tell)
I dedicate this video to Glenn Beck:) those are Egyptian youth in Tahrir square singing patriotic songs , waving flags and even dancing. not the kind of thing extreme Islamists would do and I really love the spirit they show in this vid. :D
Nationalism is a beatiful thing.
I read that there was some prayers held by Muslims and Christians in Tahrir Square earlier. There are these two pictures I've gotten,
Just found out I have Al Jazeera English on my virgin box, life is dramatically improved. I can't believe they gunned down two men who were helping a man who had been shot. This shit needs to stop real soon.

Man, this whole revolution is getting really depressing now. I hope it'll be over soon and that asshole steps down.
voodooattack I hope you don't have anything serious and hope you get better. I wish you a lot of luck and hope you get out of this soon.
Hopefully it'll end sooner or later, they've already offered a lot of compromises in effort to control the situation; and are dividing in between them. Many are also resigning from their jobs for the NDP, national TV and various other loyalist channels, just got two reports on twitter of such cases. I hope this becomes a trend. (PM Shafiq is a prime candidate I think)
Just found out I have Al Jazeera English on my virgin box, life is dramatically improved.
There's a wide variety of news channels available in the UK in general and Virgin have always had a good selection. I managed to get Al Jazeera on both Freeview (only between 18:00 and 23:00 though) and on Freesat all day.
So what is your idea of a ruling government/ideology ?
Technocratic Demarchy.
Technocratic Demarchy.
Heh, Demarchy. First time I've heard that term on a forum like Facepunch. Other forums yes, but here, no.
Heh, Demarchy. First time I've heard that term on a forum like Facepunch. Too bad I can't find a way to embed it here.

News: "Habib Al-Adly [previous Minister of Interior and head of police] is detained in a state security building and is being interrogated over 7 different accusations, in preparation for being court marshalled to a martial court." Said Mustafa Al-Bakry. ex-parliament member and opposition figure, after his meeting with Omar Suleiman, the newly-assigned Egyptian VP. Oh yeah, some heads are already flying alright! We won't settle for less than the head of the snake though. [editline]7th February 2011[/editline]
So a corporatocracy, then. A corrupt technocracy would still be ruled by men of science, you're talking about rule by suits.
If you mean indirectly and generally speaking, then yes. The late government was composed of men of science, albeit ones with strong business interests and backgrounds. Corporations had no influence officially, yet the general governmental policy was to enable (some of) them.
Well thats an interesting feature of Youtube I did not know about.
Didn't know much about it either till I followed a link to their channel and went insane sifting through my tabs trying to find that stupid site playing audio in the background, kinda useful though. Also, tribute to those who gave their lives struggling against a dark and blind enemy: May you and many others rest in peace.

Maybe the planets will align and a stray tank shell will find its way into Mubaraks' personal quarters and turn him into meaty chunks, or permanently disfigure him and leave him in a perpetual state of pain.
If I could I would put a bullet into Mubarak's head, or Stab him. also voodoo, what government would be best for the country in your opinion?
I've followed this thread since the first post and will continue to do so.
If I could I would put a bullet into Mubarak's head, or Stab him.
Let us all take a moment to describe what we would do to Mubarak if given the chance. I would take a sizeable bullet cartridge, cram it into his anus, and start whacking his ass with a pointed hammer untill I get it to detonate.
^ sounds kinky. I would kidnap him, drag him to the center of the protests and leave him while walking away in slow motion as all of the protesters start running towards him behind me. I just need to work out the slowmo bit.
Wow, you guys have bigger balls than thai red shirts. So fucking useless.
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/q5C7o.jpg[/img_thumb] Excellent.
I wanna hold one with trollface.gif and "Problem, Mubarak?" at the bottom.
If I could I would put a bullet into Mubarak's head, or Stab him. also voodoo, what government would be best for the country in your opinion?
Like I said, a secular technocratic demarchy would be best imo, and not only for my country; I think that's the model regime of the future. I could elaborate, but my walls of text usually grow exponentially (the old thread about Atheism is a good example). Let's just say that it's a "fractal yet modular" structure of governance that could allow for diverse countries and nations to progressively integrate into one big collective in the far future.

Ahahaha.. Bother Muslimhood.. oh god.. http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/video/omar-suleiman-crisis-12852023 He reminds me of the guy yelling 'Shakira Shakira' in this ad: [editline]7th February 2011[/editline]
DO IT! Someone made an online memorial for the victims here: http://1000memories.com/egypt You won't be forgotten. Also, Wael Ghoneim (Allegedly the one who started all of this) has just been released.
